  • Police in Uvalde, Texas, have been criticised for the time it took to stop 18-year-old gunman Salvador Ramos in the shooting that killed 19 children and two teachers. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
He was reportedly in the school between 40 minutes and an hour before he was killed.

I wouldn't of freaked out near the cops, I would of raced in if my kids were there.
I don't think we should put too much blame on the cops, sometimes the calls are hard to make and you don't know what will make the situation worse. You don't want to act on impulse like most parents would, but you want to follow the best procedures. If they're not following procedures then they should be brought up on that, if the procedures are bad then they need to be addressed.
The problem isn't the under funded police though. It's the size of the gun problem, that politicians would rather make money on, rather than fix the it like Australia and New Zealand did.

The two police who first confronted the shooter were both unarmed and shot... hard to fault them in that moment especially since we dont know where they were shot or how bad their wounds were... it's possible they were physically unable to do more against a man with a rifle at that point
The real issue for me is the backup officers that took a fucking hour to go inside. I understand they need to protect themselves as well, going against a man with a rifle and a bag of ammunition. Because if they did it wrong they would basically just be throwing their lives away too and bringing that dipshit shooter more weapons and ammo... the response to these types of things should have been much quicker and better prepared. I mean our kids have to do active shooter drills... why aren't there active shooter drills for police? Where they know exactly where their body armor and weapons are, and immediately head to the school. It shouldnt take an hour

Most of the "gun-totting citizens" in America have far more training with firearms than the police. Because they can pay for it and enjoy the training. Police officers are limited because of budgets and also some of them have a complex believing they are Rambo so no further training is needed. A determined mass murderer is always going to have the element of surprise, and will target anyone he believes to have a weapon first to remove them as a threat.
Plus, the simple fact is that not many people are really psychologically capable of staying composed and focused in that kind of terrifying, high-stress situation.
To prevent this kind of attack, guards and teachers would need to be extensively combat trained and preferably have real experience of coming under fire, which is completely impractical to apply in a country that has over 130,000 schools.

Guess what? Teachers in Israel carry guns. You see any school shootings there? Let me remind you, the cops were either cowards or were told to stand down, like in Florida a few years ago. This is a tragedy and has become political. You have an archbishop telling people about guns? Really? The catholic church needs to focus on their own problems involving children. Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the nation and look at how many shootings happen there. So as much as the communists..err...gun control crowd want it, Chicago proves that gun control doesn't work.

      ---
"Firearms are used for defensive purposes between 500,000 and 3 million times every single year in the United States.
In comparison, firearms were used to commit violent crime 300,000 times as of 2008.
So objectively and rationally, gun prohibitions are a good idea, right?
If your reflexive reaction to reading that data is that it must rely upon exaggerated estimates by pro-Second Amendment activists, guess again. The source of that data is none other than a study commissioned by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) following an instruction from President Barack Obama in January 2013 "to research the causes and prevention of gun violence."
In other words, even accepting the minimum estimate of defensive gun uses in the U.S. each year from a source hardly inclined toward Second Amendment advocacy, that number still dwarfs the number of instances in which guns are used to commit violent crime. "Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals," the report summarized."

I don’t know where I stand on the topic yet. But the logic would be that the teachers, instead of hiding behind a desk holding their student’s hands and saying prayers, would make an attempt to stop the threat by fighting back. Can you expect a teacher to wander around the school looking for the shooter? Not always. But if someone broke into your classroom you are locked inside of, what would you choose? Granted, there are probably implications that would stem from teachers owning weapons, but as it would with many “solutions” the majority of people are talking about.

Response: That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

If you are not willing to give your life for your community or if you don't have the guts/courage, please don't ever apply for a police officer. Your decisions could affect a lot of people and some may even die because of you.
