  • Hey, my beauty!
    We have a new lovely crochet shawl pattern for you today: VILLIERS by Kristina Smiley
    www.expressionfiberarts.com/p...
    {Prefer to knit? Find our knitted version, Copland, here: www.expressionfiberarts.com/p... }
    We used our luscious and soft Sincere Sock Yarn: www.expressionfiberarts.com/c...
    You'll need 3 different colors, 1200 yards of fingering weight yarn to make a similar version to ours.
    - Villiers is a simple triangle shawl with basic crochet stitches and subtle color changes. It is crocheted from the top down using the magic ring method to begin.
    - This shawl is perfect if you are looking for a quick and easy project. The alternating rows of basic stitches and the repeating color pattern provide these elements, while also allowing you to be creative with the size and length.
    We hope you enjoy! Be sure to sign up for email updates on the site if you want to be notified when new knit and crochet patterns go live. Many are free for a limited time!

    Your tutorials are food to my soul! Thanks, Chandy, for adding a little "piece of your heart" in every one of your videos. My little sister passed (from cancer) at age 19. Her light was as bright and familiar as yours. Thanks for that reminder: every once in a while, we share from each other's light (that was one of her favorite sayings). Her love for crochet brought me to it during the pandemic...and you keep that fire alive within lots of us. Thank you again, you sweet, sisterly spirit. It brings back such beautiful memories...and keeps them alive for me.

      The truly best way to know is to make a gauge swatch with the yarn you want to use and compare it to the gauge listed in the pattern. This pattern was designed for a fingering weight yarn, so you should be okay to work with your sock yarn. Love love love this shawl!! Triangle shawls are my nemesis though!! Reason being I don't know how to identify the loop(stich) I need to work into I the corners of the base of the shawl. The two corners that we start and finish at. Not the center peak. Also when I count my stiches are you counting the ch 1 space stich on the left or right side? Because you should have equal stiches on each side, but it never works for me😞 I hope my questions make sense. How can I be sure I'm counting correctly. Zooming in and spending time on the corners would really help. Love Evey thing you do and I ask you because I appreciate your clarity and expertise. Thank you!!

      Thank you for your question. This version is shown in: Tap Root (A), Luminous (B), and Light Elegance (C) Blossom Fingering yarn. We currently don't offer this yarn base however. 💜

    Hi! I’m using a stitch marker for my “spine” of the shawl, but it still looks like it’s drifting to one side. I’m about 14 rows deep right now. Will this get better as I go on? I’ve triple checked my stitches but it still feels like I’m missing something.

    Thank you for this lovely shawl, my query is on the first single crochet row. You increased addind two in one either side of centre spine, but not after in following single rows. Is this right or have I missed it. Meant thanks.

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  Před 2 lety +1

      Sonja, hdc, ch 1, hdc is worked at the center spine to create increases. :)

      Thank you for replying, think I didn't explain properly, in the first single crochet row before the centre increase which I understand, it looked like you also increased in the stitch before an the stich after. The centre increases. But on no other single crochet rows after. I apologise if I saw what you were doing wrong. 😉

    If you’re having trouble with the shape appearing crooked and wonky read this!!! You must work into the first chain on each row, so instead of starting at the first sc or hdc in each row, you will start on the chain you just created. I really hope this helps, it got rid of my issue

    Hi I’ve started working on this and for some reason the count is not right and the middle increase was not in the middle, should the middle increase be hdc 1 ch1 hdc Row 3 sc 1 ch 1 sc? It’s a easy pattern and I’m a intermediate to advanced crochet person 😊

      Jeanna, yes, I would use stitch markers to help make sure you're increasing in the center!

    I've just recently discovered your videos and I absolutely love you. I started right in on this shawl, had to frog and restart with a bigger hook but I am ending up with a diamond shape instead of a triangle, any idea what I did? I'm kind of thinking maybe I pulled the magic ring too tight or something .

    • @ExpressionFiberArts
      @ExpressionFiberArts  Před 4 lety +1

      Pam, oh possible or there may not be enough stitches - you want to make sure and count that beginning chain as a stitch and work into it as if it were a stitch. :)

      this is very important and you should have explained that when you made this video. Not going into that stitch ruins the whole shawl. I should know as I’ve frogged mine 3 times and finally worked out why the shawl was curving. Stop showing off and teach properly.

    Just found you, beautiful draping shawls. Do you do any afghans? Some of the patterns would make great throws, but I don't know how to translate to straight rows not triangles, lol.

    • @DianeVancouver
      @DianeVancouver Před 4 lety +1

      Katheryn Kennedy just do a test of 20 chains. do a row of double half, then a row of sc. and repeat. don’t do the twice in any stitch (increases) and ignore the spine increase. It will be pretty plain without the triangle and stripes. Once your test piece is ok, just chain as many as you want your piece to be wide and proceed to make your blanket
