No dragon has changed as much as deathwing has, his portrait in warcraft 2 he was white/grey with steel plating on the top half of his head, in warcraft 2 art he was black with steel plates down his neck. in the Cinematic he was green and WoW he is a train.
This was a cutscene from the "Beyond the Dark Portal" expansion to Warcraft to that was not in the PC and Dos version of the game. It only existed on the Playstation version.
Yeah, Warcraft II, Deathwing was green, was the only talking dragon in the game, and wore a face plate. Honestly, it looked more like a helmet so that the player could distinguish him from the other dragons in the game. And he was just Deathwing. He didn't have the name of Neltharion, wasn't Azeroth's version of Captain Planet, and at least in some sources, had his head cut off by that guy walking in with the torch. Yeah, Deathwing had his head chopped off in Warcraft II. Imagine my confusion when I found out he came back from the dead.
+Ghostwalker2061 Don't forget they actually had to pry the Skull of Gul'dan (or was it the Book of Medivh? It's been 16 years since I've played it) from his dead claws. But another note, his in game portrait and in the strategy guide (back when you bought the game, they came with it) he's depicted as a Black Dragon with silver plating running down his back. The reason he's probably depicted here as green in the Cinematic is 1. So you can see him in the darkened cave 2. He uses a generic Dragon model in game, which is green with whatever color mane you are.
Yes, he is depicted as a black dragon with silver plating on his back. In fact I think that image you are referring to is one that was drawn by Chris Metzen himself. And I have that image. So, I know what you're talking about.
Another reason for the inconsistency is that this is from the 1997 Playstation port of both Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness and Beyond the Dark Portal Expansion known as Warcraft II: The Dark Saga. This was my introduction to the Warcraft games as a kid...later on in 2000ish my dad found Warcraft: Orcs & Humans for DOS so I went back and beat both campaigns on that one too. :D
Warcraft Adventures. It was canned before it was finished but a lot of cutscenes, gameplay and screenshots exist of it. A lot of what was gonna happen in that game became canonized anyway.

Kyrenaz Kanir they had to put his pieces back together after the alliance capped him for their boy Lothar
And in the unreleased (but leaked) warcraft adventures game he was smoking a hookah and single-handedly killed by thrall.

This deathwing looks like the she dragon in Shrek. (Elizabeth)
And then many years later the cataclysm happens...
Cataclysm deathwing looks better.
Traditional and kindda stereotype dragon... still appreciate that they want to make old things look new and unique.
The green is just lighting from an era of lesser graphics, he seems to be intended as black.
Wow, he looks so different now days.
he's so awesome he can kill all the human heroes by himself when they're all against him together
Hmm, this is a mixed bag. On the one hand, it's a shame the PC version never had this, but on the other, it is incorrect to the lore a bit.
My deathwing how you have changed!
Elliott Pascoe Old gods are one hell of a drug
