You know what’s a great idea? Shatter proof glass, reinforced bulletproof steel plates and doors with no handles. I’m sure that’s not going to cause any problems if a paramedic needs to get you out.
That's the trade off. But consumers would choose that rather than a vehicle that doesn't make you feel safe; the only pro of the latter is that it acts as an insurance in case you need medical attention (e.g. easily accessible). Steer by wire has been used in infiniti q50 since 2012
Exactly
The Infiniti Q50 was actually the first steer by wire in a production car
Yes and no, it was the first steer-by-wire, but it still had a mechanical link fail-safe where as the Cybertruck is a redundant steer-by-wire system with no mechanical linking at all.

”it has the first ever production steer-by-wire setup” lol 7:19
Wow, I’m amazed how great this Minecraft texture pack looks. How did you get it?
It’s not the first steer-by-wire system. Lexus has been using it for a couple of years now.
What year did Lexus introduce steer by wire and which model?
They still had a backup connection between steering wheel and front wheels. Cybertruck is first car to not use that backup connection
What Lexus had was essentially a hybrid stear by wire. Meaning it still had linkage to the wheels. But Tesla's has no mechanical linkage. It is fully controlled by wire without any mechanical connection to the wheels.
that's what I was going to say lmao
Infiniti too since 2012
So here is the real question.... what do you feel through the wheel? In a normal steering setup you are directly fed the forces that apply on the front wheels, you can feel the moment traction lets go, you get queues for counter steer when the back lets go and you get all sorts of tyre loading feedback as the sidewalls deflect etc. That is unless you are driving some dumb car where they have over put in too much power steering force that it is all hidden.
Here there is no feedback. I get with aircraft (I used to work on commercial flight sims) in that they can apply "force to the column" but flight feedback is a very different thing to the subtle feedback of a wheel. There are some good car sim rigs now BUT we are still talking they only provide the feel they are told to. How have they solved this or did they even solve it?
my best guess is they do something like a direct drive wheel for sim racing, which are pretty damn good at replicating similar feel to actual cars, but racing an actual car still feels very different than having a motor dictate how you feel the tires slip, grip, and slide. The visibility frankly doesn't look good either, yeah you can see far, but whats right next to you you can't, especially when you have it raised to max height, which is an issue with basically every other truck as well tbh. Also how some of the cybertruck is constructed is kind of concerning, the front body lines between the headlights and daylight running lights seem to be held under tension by plastic clips, which is pretty dangerous if repairs need to be done to it, and I have no idea how stainless steel is going to be if welding, metal pulls, and bodywork need to be done or if it's always going to have to be replaced for bigger dents/major repairs. tldr the cybertruck looks like a bit of a mess imo
That changing station up front is solid
Got presentation! Subbed. I suggest you get a couple simple go pros (add a gps tags maybe) and put em along the road riding a scooter or bike so you'll have some split screen/exterior footage. (We do it for our downhill videos) A friend with a drone is also nice to have.

11:08, It is hilarious how you reach for the turn signal lever instinctively. It would totally take me forever to get used to the button instead XD
It's not a new feature, my Tesla Model 3 has it and the Model S & X have it for more than a year, with the yoke steering wheel. It doesn't take very long to get used to. The 1-pedal driving on the dual-motor Tesla's (only using the brake pedal rarely, when you left re-gen braking till way too late) is even easier to get used to. On small European roundabouts you have to get locate the buttons ASAP when entering the roundabout, which takes some time to get used to.

Nice surroundings. Where did you film this ?
Apparently the CT doesn't use extremely tough stainless steel, it only uses fairly tough stainless steel, and some owners are already seeing mild surface rust. Which isn't really acceptable in a brand new $80K+ truck. Even the Delorean had higher grade SS. Or so I'm told.
@gospelofry6881 FUD that is not cyber truck rusting itself, but it is environment dust particles sticking on the surface of truck and attaching. I have seen other cars too having similar thing. You can search Bearded Tesla guy and watch his latest video on cyber truck rust fud. The TSLAQs are in full thrust to tank the st0ck and damage the brand.
So you're told? You're told wrong.
@@ericred8124 CT uses 301 series stainless steel, Delorean uses 304 series and is more corrosion resistant. Just google it champ instead of claiming I've been told wrong.

People with money like that don't live up here where it's cold so they don't ever think/worry about it. Non-issue to them.
I really like all the non d riding features to draw your attention whilst driving.
Designing so that you need to look at touch screens and mostly drive with 1 hand is a very good safety feature.
Like only using cameras to FSD because humans can't tell engine output from sound, can't hear sirens, or breaking vehicles out of view and have no ability 6p feel the acceleration. Becuase sight is all that is used to drive.
I mean the car could just read what its own engine is doing and read its own acceleration, doesn't need to listen, your other concerns are pretty valid though, i've never heard anyone else make the case for adding audio sensors, but your explanation makes a lot of sense. I never really understood Musks hate for sonar/lidar/any other sensors besides cameras. You have probably the most valid criticism in a sea of people who have no idea what they are talking about.
Except that there is no engine or belts or anything that you would need to hear for operational reasons…

@@rminitials It is available. There is manual option.
Serious question - what activities would you have to be doing in the front seat of a car to shatter that screen?
@@mattg71313 good question.
If there is horsing around & someone accidently damages the screen. If a liquid is spilled on the screen & it seeps into the interior of the device (unless the screen is waterproof). The steer by wire looks like it would be so awesome once you get used to it. you really shouldn't have to turn it more than 90 degrees to get the full turn, just as in a plane. Might make driving a lot safer overall if it proves reliable. Too bad they are keeping with the damn touchscreen. I wouldn't mind it if they had a Hologram hud like BMWs do.
They've been doing cold weather testing here in Fairbanks for about two months now. I've seen swarms of up to four of these ridiculous vehicles driving in caravan. I'll give this thing some credit, it handled two weeks of -50F. How long were they on the road at those temperatures? Who knows. But at least they're here testing.
