This is the second time I listen to this interview and I’m as elated
The pace, the energetic but relaxed demeanour, the insights, the comfortable flow of the conversation- pure joy!
And Yes David, bring back the long interview format, please!
    Thank you

Great interview. Enjoyed every minute. I would've liked to hear David's view on sitting politicians having their own interview show on "news" channels

Extremely engaging and interesting interview Lewis, enjoyed it as much as the Heseltine one. Cannot imagine any present politician going on with you, but please don't give up trying.

Really enjoyed listening to Mr. Dimbleby. Thank you for posting this video. Was this video part of the interviewer's apprenticeship program?

Like Marr and Maitlis, Lewis wouldn't want to chat to us common folk on the phone for 3 hours a day when there are more interesting people on the political and celebrity circuit to talk to in long form. And besides, he would come under immense pressure to match the ratings of O'Brien. That would mean no more Mr Nice Guy, with more opinions, more conflict and before you know it, we would have another version of O'Brien on our hands, but with prettier hair.

I don't think one can credibly blame news organizations like BBC for the death of the long form political interview. I think we can blame the rise of social media and the internet for that. Memory spans are now shorter thanks to how people now communicate online (tweets, viral clips, short videos etc.). Also, news organizations are battling for viewers with platforms like Facebook and instagram, so if they want viewership, they unfortunately have to communicate how this generation communications. With that said, BBC is publicly funded, so they are not fighting for advertising dollars. They should thus make more of an effort to save the long form interview. On the other hand, they risk losing relevancy if they cannot keep up with the new generation and loss of relevancy might embolden right wing politicians to defund the BBC

      I don't think that's true .
Joe Rogan put Bernie Sanders through an hour long interview.
I think it's very much a case with television minded media.

Any long form interview would be wholly dependent on politicians agreeing. How many of the current crop of substandard grifters would subject themselves to that suicidal prospect?

    • @highmillpickering2470

... which would also rely on the quality, integrity and independence of the journalist

Put that blasted pen down! I wanted to grab it and hurl it out the window, the host was so annoying with it.
PS: The host should have pressed Dimbleby on Huw Edwards and not let him change the subject, especially since David had just talked about not letting politicians change the subject in their interviews.

I'm 42, don't remember Robin Day, but form clips I've seen, David is much better. In clips I've seen Day is performative, patronising, superior and smug. Dimbleby has never been this. I've even seen clips of Day banging on about the colour of a female MPs hair , to her face. OK it's from the 60s/70s but it's so cringe. Very 'Avuncular Uncle' and quite uncomfortable to watch.
