This Almost BROKE ME. Dirt Bike Mountain Climbing on the Final Day of Grizzbait 2023

- The fifth and final day of mountain dirt bike riding during Grizzbait 2023 was easily the most challenging of my life. This day of mountain dirt bike riding was full of endless steep slopes covered in big rocks leading to the most epic views I've ever seen. I honestly wasn't sure I'd make it through...but the Honda CRF250F proved once again to be a reliable mule that carried even my large posterior up the mountain.
Grizzbait 2023 was an epic week of dirt bike riding in the mountains of beautiful northern British Columbia put on by our friends at @TractioneRag and @crosstrainingenduro I was honored to have been invited and had a blast putting my hard enduro skills to the test taking on rocks, more rocks, and even more rocks, as well as techincal hill climbs, water crossings, and some of the most epic scenery I've ever seen while riding a motorcycle off road.

Disclaimer for reasons: I am not a professional journalist, expert motorcycle rider, or a mechanic. These videos are for entertainment purposes and represent my personal opinions and experiences. I'm just a dude who isn't even good at riding or making videos, so be smart and don't risk life or limb trying to follow my example or advice.
Dude. You're out there DOING IT. You have every right to be proud. YOU BUILT THIS. You created these opportunities-- and you're killing it. Those rocky hills are no joke. And you did it! Inspiration for us all.
Helllllllll yeah
100%, dude has so much to be proud of
Great video! I am in the same boat at 54 years old, 6'2" and 305 lbs, and out of shape. I'm where you were at two years ago in terms of skill and confidence on my 2022 KLR.
I watched this video and had nothing but mad respect and empathy for you. That steep and rocky trail was simply insane! But you did it! Yes, you bitched and moaned and were sarcastic the whole way up, but that's what makes your videos relatable and likable. I would be cussing and throwing a fit much more than you were, lol! Keep living the dream and having a great(and not so great) time creating content!
If I don't laugh out loud at least 5 times through one of your video's, then it would be 4 laughs. Hilarious video. Entertainment value is a 10/10 with you Ben, thank you. Beautiful scenery up there.
You're getting so much better! Keep challenging yourself! I know you said this isn't what you set out to do, but YOU ARE KILLING IT!
Ben you always seem to give us gold of your adventures just picture all those baby head rocks like gold nuggets. Love your videos and this one is golden!
I doubt anyone interested in this activity is judging you. You are doing what we want to do we and are cheering you on.
Don't you just love it when they stopped in the middle of a hill an you ask why did you stop? An they say I don't know. 😅 or there not out of the way an you end up in the bushes. What fun. 😅😅😅😊. And The Grizzlies didn't want any part of that. Wow just beautiful views. Thanks for sharing 👍.
Dork I can only imagine how incredibly tough that was. You killed it!! So awesome. Good luck to 100k! I wish you the best!
Good job man, I’m impressed that you kept recording, when I get frustrated that’s the first thing I give up on!
Your ability exceeded your confidence! You killed it out there on some seriously technical riding! Use this experience as motivation to get into the gym! I have been going twice a week with my son since Jan 1st and it's made a major difference in my riding! Work hard to make the fun things in life easier 👊
You absolutely have to do some kind of training when you want to do stuff like this. Especially at our age! It was different when we were 20..
Thanks so much for making these videos, I am born & raised in Smithers BC. Thanks for coming and seeing our beautiful town and what we have to offer. I feel so spoiled living here and enjoying all of these trails that you have made videos on. I was just up Sylvern lakes trail last weekend on my TW200.
That is some serious riding. It's good to know I'm not the only one who has to tell myself how to ride while I'm riding. 😂 and I don't have the skills to ride the track you were battling...yet. Love your videos man.
Awesome ride and thank you for taking us with ‼️‼️‼️
Your not lucky as you say. You put a lot of time effort and skill to make entertaining videos. Informative videos. Hours on gear recommendations, bike reviews how too's on camping ect. Your not lucky your just getting what you deserve. Thanks for the entertainment the knowledge and getting and taking what your deserve. Keep them comming cuz its a long winter and i love watching your content. God bless.
Ben! You are the man!
The only person that never failed, is the one that never tried!
Don’t ever forget that!
Love you, my brother!
Be well and ride safe…
That is some gnarly- arsed riding. Well done.
Ben, you have really become a very good rider, I got exhausted watching this last day. Believe me when I say that you are doing the community a great service, you are inspiring to all of us. Thank you. Sence I turn 77 next week I think I"ll take a nap now...
@4:05 - OH MY GOD. Literally my reaction. Absolutely beautiful up there.
Really awesome series Ben. Looks like an amazing event, and it looks like it was really eye-opening and meaningful for you. Thanks for bringing us along!
Good video, enjoyed watching. thanks for sharing.
I am also a late comers to trail riding and cut my teeth in BC
There's nothing more satisfying, and downright exhausting, that improving and conquering ever more challenging terrain.
You did awesome with a great attitude, and content 👊
Good Lord man - that looked DIFFICULT! I wish pain and struggle and cursing wasn't so fun to watch - I feel guilty about it - I really do... Bravo. Awesome ride. Thank you.
Thats awesome!! Keep at it!!
That's easy, could have done that in my sleep. 😂😂😂 Wow, dude that was some insane riding and even more insane views. Congrats on getting it done. What an epic journey, totally jealous.
Fantastic!! 🎉
Had a chat with the Man, Dallas himself a few days ago, and if I'm fast enough on the uptake when the spots open for next year, maybe I'll get to live the dream as well.
Love the positivity, love your content, and thanks for making it, dude.
Dude!!!!!!, now that deserves a whiskey &'a "puffpuff"
Well Done!
Excellent! You could tell it was steep just by sound. I hate that kind of stuff but that’s part of the deal with what we do. That was one knarly trail!!!! Amazing scenery.
That is hard core brother. Awesome ride……
Incredible ride. Nice job dork
Well done!
Loved the rant. You tell 'em!
Gates of Hell was no damn joke. I sat in the shade at the bottom just out of sight of the "Fun" ahead. I listened to carnage and swearing for 20 minutes until it was my turn.. Good lord..
Dork on the rocks...hmmm probably gonna need some Tylenol and a chaser after that run
great video, and you're right BC does have pieces of paradise... gems hidden in plain sight.
WOW! Incredible views thanks for showing those to us. As someone who has been watching your vids from the start, I'm amazed at the skills you have acquired. Those baby heads, holy cow. Congratulations on making the ride without injuries. I especially like how you coach yourself while riding up the hill. Keep the good stuff coming.
The lighter the bike, the more fun you can have. That’s my motto anyway.
I was hoping this trip would encourage you to show us how hard you can push the 300l Rally....
It's heavier than my 450L ;)
@@DorkintheRoad I know. I was just saying in general. The lighter the bike, the more fun. I just wanna see somebody run the 300l/Rally to its limits, to see how much abuse it can actually handle... I know what the 450l is all about.
Ben, thank you for the awesome shots of that scenery and keeping the content real! The authenticity is what I come here for.
The force is strong in old Ben....... Awesome riding. 👍
GREAT RIDING !!!!!
Congrats man. The camera doesent do justice to just how hard your trails were. If someone hasent road and filmed. I have. And am really impressed. Makes the low land logging roads feel like a walk in the park, right? :)
Good for you to keep going!! I would have gone about 10 feet, and then gone home!!!
Remarkable! The whole series. But especially being w/ you through all those rocks - MY GAWD!!!!! Way beyond my experience, but your message rings loud and clear Ben - thanks ever so much!.......
Bought a new KLR because of you adventures, picking it up Tuesday!! I'm 55 and have ridden since 5 years old. Your content got me back to dirt, thank you buddy, you rock!!!
Your pep talks to yourself as you ride are awesome!!
Best off-road experience I've ever had.
Great video! Living the dream ! 👍
Lol angry dork -love it
Truly one of your best videos of all time Ben! The terrain is so beautiful and burley, looking off to the side of the vid helps justify the insane grade...epic man! ...and on an 'F' man, wow! Been a hell of a year, baja, Oregon bdr, Alpinestars, Get-On, and now BC!... Spectacular, no.. Excellent!
Epic! 👍🏻
Man have you come a long ways!!! That loose rock hill is no joke and you wouldn’t have done that a year ago.
Nice looking country but looks like hell to ride in. Nice video!
I really enjoyed watching this series on GrizzBait. I've had this rally on my radar for years now. I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford to go, but I'm definitely holding out hope. Watching your video makes me think I could do it. I'd have similar struggles I'd think, but it would be totally worth it. Thank you for sharing.
it's not easy, but it's pretty epic.
I have watched a bunch of your videos, but never comment. This ride looked TOUGH. HOLY HELL! Good on you for pulling through without having to rage too much.
solid riding, that looked tough. just subscribed
Ben, glad you had a great time in our wonderful country. Thank you for the amazing footage.
I can’t tell you how impressed, on many levels, I am with you, Ben! Thank you for taking us on your journeys…I don’t just mean your motorcycle journeys.
At 14 minutes I’m laughing till I’m crying!
The camera doesn't even come close to showing how tough these hills are. In-person this is a seriously steep incline over a long distance. Well done Dork, this shit is tough for anyone without extensive off-roading experience and fitness.
And as a regular viewer, I'm the tiniest little part of making this happen for you, but I couldn't be happier for you to be living out your dreams. I have similar dreams..... Maybe one day I'll see you on a ride.
Nice riding Dork! That took alot of skill and patience for sure. . it looked steep even thru the camera..
Incredible view!! Congrats on your achievements with the channel. Just this year alone has been epic! And the year isnt over!!
Great commentary and content! Big fan
I have ridden up in BC a couple of times and the terrain in the rockies up there is.....painful. GREAT job broseph!
Thanks for the tip!
Now this is my kind of riding ! Nice one man 💪
Dude, don’t sell yourself short! That is some serious terrain! I noticed lots of other riders on the ground more often than you. So keep up the good work. Just remember what Dave Aldana said “you never how fast you can go, until you fall down”. You probably didn’t think you could do a trail like that, but you did it! Congratulations!
For sure one of your best rides ever!Cheers from Greece!!
I have never ridden anything like that Rocky shit you’re riding. You’re awesome. Love listening to the talking Ben, so fun and funny.
Mad respect! ❤ Anyone who makes fun of you is NOT worth listening to. Keep up your awesome content. Thank you
You're awesome dude
That was a great ride. The PSA cracked me up. Anyone that would make fun or mock you is a sad human being. We feel sorry for them. Thanks for being an encouragement!!!
Great job on the baby head boulder trails you dont have to apologize to anybody i weigh half what you do and that stuff still kicks my ass but it sure is fun getting out and being in the countryside seeing the stuff that very few get the privilege of experiencing thanks for filming and posting your adventures so we can get a little peek of your journey
Mr Dork you have out done yourself on this trip!! I have much respect for you my brother for riding that hell trail and taking US along with you!! Stay safe out in them big woods. Around Bend Oregon out o n 2 wheels
Well done my man!!!!! That looked EPIC hard!!!! You did great nobody can say anything about your commitment you did awesome!!!!
Good on ya and a life experience I will never have or pursue! Thanks for bringing us along! Must have been the extra weight of all your followers that gave you that little bit of extra traction you needed!
Another excellent video. Good to see you always challenging yourself and your skills. Great inspiration for all of us. Get out and ride!
What an adventure, Grizzbait looks amazing and stellar work on the videos!
great job...you ain't no Dork...you got skills man....
Killer climb there bud!
Way to take er for a rip, eh!
Enjoyed this whole Grizzbait series.
Cheers!
Nice job in very challenging terrain. Looks super tough on video which rarely shows the true reality of how difficult the terrain actually is. Takes courage and determination and the views make it worth the struggle. Great video! 🙌
6:56 I had the exact same conversation with myself in a recent ride! (Much easier trail, but I’m unskilled!)
Great fun being a “Pack Mule” and chasing a herd of “Mountain Goats”
I love your content and really appreciate you Ben. I'm in a very similar physical shape as you and recently started to drive Enduro this summer on my CRF250L. I really appreciate having you paving the way for me, showing that tough terrain like this is possible on that bike and a love of burgers and beer =) You just slaying this terrain dude, hopefully one day I'll be as good of a rider as you are!
I loved the rant, very human of you.
I'm almost 40 and tried to get in shape before my first trail run and its incredibly draining. Part of me wants to stop doing single trails on my WR because of the toll, but videos like this make me want to stick with it.
GG Dork.
Some gnarly terrain out there.
Nice work!
Not sure if you saw Yammienoob's video(freaking love that dudes stuff, super funny) after he went and rode with Dallas......but.....this ride made a young, well conditioned rider "give up offroad forever." It ALMOST broke you, but didnt. To clarify, this is not a sh!t post on Yammie. He is a rock star and I did not say anything he did not say himself.
Bro, you need to be beyond proud of how well you did on this stuff. Respect level went up 300% more than I already had for you after watching this.
WOW, that’s all I can say is WOW. You tell Ben how it is Ben 😅 I have all the respect in the world for ya. You’re not much younger than me and you killed it. Beast Mode
Congratulations! You are now Erzberg Rodeo ready. 🤠
Beautiful riding trip. Wish I was there also as you are such an inspiration for us not so skilled riders.
Even if you never planned to never ride some of its types of terrain now you have been through it once and any surprise encounters in the future you will know you can do it. Not easily but you can and have. 💪
Damn! Incredible riding, man. Magnificent job, thanks for sharing and inspiring!
Ben…please make a video discussing your progression from why/when you left your previous career and what you’ve learned about yourself to this point. Also please share your future goals with your faithful followers. Thank you in advance.
You did great!!! View was worth it!
always great content, Ben! You've earned the Grizzbait Jersey. Watch how the front fender is deflecting in the rocks. A steering damper might help you get through the rocks easier. All my bikes have one. Would be interesting as an addition to your CRF and an evaluation video.
Keep on keepin' on!
WOW! Dork, you deserve the “T-Shirt” You nailed that ride! WABDR Babyhill is a walk in the park compared to what you just did! Welcome to BC … I love calling home 👍
Ben, always look 20-40’ in front of you and run that thing on the pipe. Most of your struggle came a low R’s. Twist it and just keep looking out in front of you. Good job staying with it bud.
Last thing, abandon that thought of holding the bike with your knees, you’re restricting the movement. Instead, pitch it with your boots and allow the bike to move around, especially in those cobbles.
I’ll visit your memorial. 😁 Seriously, great job tackling that. 👍👊
Thanks for sharing Dork!
Good stuff man! Let errrrr eatttt!!!
Great video man! I've enjoyed this series for sure!
When I was 23 this would have been a great ride!!! But, being 4 decades past that age is why I tackle trails like this on an ATV...4 wheels on the ground & can use "granny gear" to motor up the boulder fields. Kudos to you and all the others doing this ride. Great enjoyment watching this AND hearing your R-rated commentary. Love it!!!
i know these types of areas in BC. It looks steeper irl then on camera, n the boulders are bigger too
NICE! that looks like some proper technical trail riding, anyone can comment from a nice comfortable armchair.
I don't ride off-road because I'm good at it, I ride off road because I enjoy it! 😆
Bravo for doing such an ass kicker of a trail. What a payoff of a view after that section!
