  • Restoring a 1930s Singer Sewing Machine & Cabinet | Singer 15-91 Before & After | Hello friends, thank you for joining me on another video. As with most videos, I am very excited about this project. It fuses together some of my (and I'm hoping some of your) all-time favorite things, history, vintage items, and sewing. Almost a year ago I came into this 1930s Singer sewing machine table.
I had been looking for a sewing machine table (preferably vintage because there's nothing like those iconic black singer sewing machines) for a little while and couldn't pass up this little table when I found it online. I got it for a very good price and despite the damage to the exterior, I felt it would make quite a fun restoration project.
In all honesty, I was a bit intimidated so I put off touching the machine and table for an entire year until my current sewing machine decided to unalive itself. This video is a little chatty but I hope you enjoy hearing my silly story and joining me as I clean up this vintage machine and give the table a much-needed facelift.
I had so much fun with this furniture restoration, learned so much about vintage machines and the Singer 15-91, and can't wait to get back to sewing.

Thank you so much for watching 🖤 What sewing project should I christen this machine with? Perhaps I'll film it

Oooh, a satin-lined hooded cape for sure! I can just see you getting your red-riding hood look going with a basket in the woods. 😄

I got this same setup last May. Thankfully my cabinet is in very good condition. The machine did need professionally serviced.

Thank you for this video. I always wanted a sewing machine and last year my husband and I noticed a small table someone left out on the curb. We took it intending to use as a night stand. Turned out to be a sewing machine! I haven't used it but this video inspired me to inspect my machine. It is a Singer 201-2 from 1955. The table is painted white but I plan to strip the paint and stain a dark wood color. 🖤

How do you get so lucky to score a 202-2 without knowing it's the #1 desired vintage machine for almost everyone, but with 2, 15-91's a 15-88, a 401a my wife won't let me look for another. Good luck with the 201.

+1 that is a great score! My favorite is a 15-91 but the 201 is good and famous. It was known as the 'Rolls Royce' model because RR commissioned Singer to build that machine for their upholstery factory. Singer must have been competing against White to get the contract and White used rotary bobbin hooks not oscillating hooks that most Singers have.

The table was in dire need of repair. You did a great job on that and you showed me how to clean and care for my machine. thank you. Merry Christmas.

15-91 models are my favorite and that machine came to you in perfect shape. Great job on the cabinet restoration. Too many drinks and plants have destroyed such tables, that sold for nearly as much as the machines -- either of which was a big price back in their day.

Awesome job!!! I saw the sewing machine in the video for Halloween decorations and had to come look at the renovations. I did the same thing bought an old desk thrifting for a computer table as I needed it to be small but these old sewing tables all fold out so you have more table space. I found it for $15 and then realized it came with a heavy cast iron kenmore. I never did use the desk for a computer table as I didn't get a computer for upstairs, but kept the machine of course... then a few years back I bought a new kenmore that fit the desk so had to figured out how to remove the old machine which was not easy as it was so heavy (also discovered it was a knee sewer, but the new kenmore pedal foot pedal plugged right in) the newer machine is still vintage mint green metal machine built in japan in the 70s that has a zig zag with a beautiful satin stitch which is what I was looking for !!! Recently, I decided I needed to sew again, and starting seeing all these new featherweights being rebuilt for a lot of money, and got tempted. Then I thought I have a great straight sewing machine I believe made by the white company during the world war so very few were even built those years so I just need to work on that not spending the thousands for a featherweight, so a couple months back I just asked my Dad if he wanted to work on an old machine, but I forgot to bring it to him when I went home to visit. I should just try to clean it myself!!! Anyways, always looking for something forgetting you already have one in the house!!! Nice reno!!! I know it sews better than any new machine you could have bought!!!

Beautiful job! I was really questioning when I saw you scraping off the veneer at first but the new veneer made it look brand new

You can get them at the hardware store! This is the exact one I got but they sell them in different lengths and types of wood: www.homedepot.com/p/EDGEMATE-24-in-x-96-in-Cherry-Wood-Veneer-with-10-mil-Paper-Backer-8101034/206942940
