- Come along with Eric O. at the SMA shop as he has a look at a 2007 Hyundai Sonata 3.3l that has an A/C system that is blowing warm air. He started out thinking it may just have developed a leak and lost its refrigerant but quickly finds out it has a blown fuse. That leaves one big question...What blew the fuse!? Stay tuned to find out!

Eric will always be our favorite, no matter who else comes along.
You are awesome at showing that someone in the trades requires an education far more vast than most people realize. The knowledge that you display with the diagnosis of problems to tracking down the solution and executing the repair is very impressive.. Love the videos brother, keep them up!!
Wow, what a week. Thanks so much for the time you invested in this weeks videos. You really treated us to something special. Happy Mothers Day Vanessa! Thanks SMA!
U know, i really appreciate the clarity of how u explain ur videos. U dont have any uuhh uh and uhh, no useless camera angles and views, u dont fill with time with deep opinions about things u hate while doing ur work. Thank u for ur time making ur videos and really putting all the effort in that u do.
Really love and appreciate all the videos lately. Keep up the good work. By far the best automotive repair channel on CZcams
Thanks!
Very true SMA is the best.
mixes learning with humour & a good friendly humble style.
Fun to watch and extremely well produced considering the work in question . quite simply youtube GOLD .
Awesome diagnosis. I wish I could trust every shop to do this kind of work.
Who in the world are the handful of guys who thumbs down your videos!? Are they typically the same people each time? I think your videos are great and I really appreciate you sharing your wisdom and experiences. I've learned alot from you. Thank you and keep up the good work.
Love it when Mrs. O pops in for a quick hello
Watched you while looking at mom's car. Already checked fuse and swapped starter relay for ultimate check. Without your fancy scantool, but your brilliant hypothesis and your findings of the correct resistance, the only other thing I could think to do was check the positive battery terminal that was shielded by a plastic cover. I lifted the cover to find massive corrosion and burnt plastic. Installed new terminal and the compressor is behaving. Will get a good voltmeter next just to check amperage. You Rock! from Clermont, FL
Enjoyed Mrs. O's cameo appearance. Wishing her a happy Mother's day. It would be great to see you both working on her timing belt together! The white lab coat and sharks with lasers part was great.
I know you said you are not certified but I am always amazed at your knowledge and how through you are with diagnosing the problems. I think you need to be the one writing the ASE handbook. keep the great videos coming! Happy Mother's Day Ms O!
No way man, I just make YT videos so that is all you see. There are millions of mechanics out there much smarter than me!
South Main Auto Repair millions? Doubt that maybe hundred tops
ditto! Eric is in the top ten percent if not higher of his trade!!
I am a commercial vehicle tech and most of the folks I work with can not grasp how a light bulb works, much less ohms law.
was it just the cameras mic or was that compressor rather noisy?
You have to be ASE certified as a prerequisite to earn your SMA certification.
Maybe Eric should call up Scotty K. for some help since the current helpers are going back to school?! LOL...
Another great video what I like the best is Eric finding a the true cause of the problem. One comment was about the expensive tools he uses BUT if you watch and listen with a test light and an Ohm meter you can do many of the same tests with simple tools. No I can't see waves, etc but at least find a direction. Now to find a lab coat to send and one of Ivans head lights.
Wow, I was so juiced to hear you punning! You're showing a lot of potential. Make sure you go with the flow whenever you feel the pressure.
SMA - Just wishing Mrs. O. a very happy mother's day....Thanks yet again for more videos.
hey eric, man i have really enjoyed watching your videos. i work in a garage and have watched several of your vids and they have helped me tremndously. keep putting out there and hope everyone is having a blessed day. big hello from Alabama
This video was really informative! Learn a lot through you. I want to improve my diag skills specially for finding out what blew the fuse. Keep up the great work! I appreciate the content
It's Christmas in May...Love the back to back videos!
Happy Mothers Day Mrs. O. A vid every day this week.... Awesome!
Thanks for all the video uploads! Keep it up Eric! We appreciate the time you are putting into making videos
Excellent video! I'm sure many would have been satisfied to swap out the fuse, call her fixed, and roll her, but not you! Very informative, and entertaining, watching you get to the root cause of the problem. I hope the customer gave you the job, and if so, that we can ride along for the repair! Keep up the solid work, thanks for another GREAT video!
I did get the job but she said it will be a while. It is a very expensive fix because Hyundai only sell the whole compressor which sucks.
isn't some company that make some junk aftermarket clutch that you can put on to avoid removing the compressor?

And I have a Sonata too.. oh boy
G'day, Mr. O! A Happy Mothers Day for Mrs. O! I've appreciated all your wonderful videos lately! Thank you very much for the Hyundai Sonata - No A/C Compressor Clutch Operation! Oh, by the way, "Mechanics can always be counted on in the 'clutch.' ;-)
Cheers!
YOU ARE THE BEST OUT HERE, AND THERE. THANKS FOR SHARING ALL YOUR KNOWLEDGE, ALWAYS LEARN SOMETHING HERE....
Eric, another great video on troubleshooting AC problem, Happy Mothers to Mrs O.
best vid to date!!!! hits it all! Happy Mothers day to Mrs. O, and all the other Mothers out there!
Nice diagnosis Eric. 12. amps I was waiting for the pop but no doubt with heat over time and vibration it'd blow. Nice labeling on your values :D. A video every day this week as awesome and appreciated and you just went to 79K subscribers...nice!!
Like bakroc2 said, it's been a treat to see a video every day this week.
Happy Mothers day to Vanessa and thanks for the lesson. ohms law is more fun when you see it in action. my Vantage 2400 cropped out on me too. I miss that dude.
Great video. A demonstration of what’s missing with many “mechanics” these days, the ability to troubleshoot. Most now a days find a code and change a part. It either works or they shrug their shoulders and change another part.
oh my god this month has been good :D Thank you SMA always putting out such good videos!
Very informative and grateful with your knowledge with a good humor added to make all episodes interesting.
And I was planning to do some work on my jeep today. But I'll watch some SMA first to get me pumped up!
This guy is on a roll with the Videos! Intake appreciated.
Watching your videos is like watching a magician work. Very interesting! Wish I lived closer to your shop I've got a Silverado that might give you a challenge haha!! Thanks for the great videos!
I know I'm a year and change late to the party but... I'm a aircraft tech that grew up working on cars in my dad's shop. I ran into the same issue on my Sonata. I went about it a little differently and with happy home owner crappy tools. Came to same conclusion as you did just took a little longer. Lol. Great job man! Just found your channel while looking for a video on how fuel pump comes out. Most of the time I don't listen to idiots on CZcams I just watch to see where and how it comes out. With you my friend... I will leave the volume on! Your not one of the normal idiots on here! Thanks! Look forward to seeing AND LISTENING to your videos.
And the daily videos continue! Awesome! Keep it up Dr. O
Always enjoy watching!
Damn, you gained 4k subscribers since the beginning of the week? Great job, bud!!!!
I said you need a puller to pull the puller (fuse) at the exact time you did. Got a good laugh out of that one. Thanks for the video.
Great video! Can't wait to watch part 2!
Eric all your videos have great information in them even for the DIYer just to know when someone or shop talk to you You are n the ballpark and know what they're talking about thank you
Very good, impressed with your logical approach.
MR O, GOOD INFO IT IS ALWAYS FUN TO WATCH YOU . CHEEEEEERS
Another Great Video! Ya gatta have the tools to verify the problem. Scopes, Amp Clamps, DMM's, Pressure Gauges, Pressure Sensors and more!
Oh ya.......Scope On A Rope too, can't forget that guy!
Nice when you started the hunt my first thought was a blown fuse or a seized fan clutch hadent contemplated a high energy draw from a bad working clutch
Great !!! tele !!! Eric its a quality channel. totally appreciate your commitment to the cause.
regards kinger
Man O Man, loving these daily videos! :D
you rock Eric. tell Mrs. o. happy mother's day
Great Video. Thanks for passing on the knowledge
You have the coolest toys Eric!
You are an inspiration to me.. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for stopping come again 😂 ms o
Happy Mothers Day to Mrs O! Good video, you had a nerdgasm doing science and math in this video! I hope you don't start charging extra for all the videos, I'm loving it.
Another great video sir. Keep them coming
all you were missing was the pico..love the scanner O edition of SMA...NEED A PULLER FOR THE PULLER..lmao .almost spilled my wake up juice...i need it because of the great vids coming out. cheers
Agree! That was classic Eric O. !!
You've been a machine this week! New video almost every day. Damn. Do you have a vacation coming up?
Well done, Eric.
Wow man, thanks for another upload!
Im getting in the habit of clicking like before I even watch the video. Because I know im gonna like it!
Happy Mother's Day Mrs O!!
Hey Eric! Spend some time with the family!
Another excellent video. Very much appreciated. How about the the next one you live stream from within a cylinder with compression issues? ☺
its not a caravan this time lol love you videos learning a lot from them
Your videos go great with cold beer my friend 🍻
Ohms law not to be confused with Mrs. O's law................. ever !
Hahah true true
Hey Eric have automotive repair books can share with me please.
Been watching for awhile I think I channeled you yesterday. Friend has 04 Volvo S40 with bad skip. He bought new coils, wires and plugs. I said should we not check compression. We did and number 2 cylinder has a "dead hole"."There's your problem lady" Thanks for the fantastic videos. Oh by the way wife needs to know about asparagus crowns and where to purchase them.
I am glad you mention to look to see if there is anything else running off the same fuse. On my E250 I have the DRL (Daytime running light) that run off of the same fuse as the compressor clutch. Great video buddy. Here is a Question. Is there a way to preserve a car's brake rotors so they don't rust to crap during none use. I have 16000 miles on our plow truck and the garage says I need to replace all four rotors and pads.
I love the look Mrs O. gave you. I think all us married guys have been given that look by our wives when we share something we think is important that they really couldn't care one little bit about at all LOL.
Spoiled with all these SMA videos! Love it!
Great video, keep up the good work. Also could you do more semi truck videos.
"I=V/R - It's not just a suggestion, IT'S THE LAW" needs to be an SMA teeshirt.
Happy Mothers Day MRS. O.
Thanks as always.
I can't wait for the Krown Video
i'm dying for it
I remember when these first started rolling through the shop and we use to do the clutch assembly under warranty
I checked w/ Hyundai and they do not even sell the clutch separate anymore...
Hyundai is weird like that now u have to get the compressor
Time to call Ranshu!!
For the old broken Vantage, have you seen Scanner Danner's video "Snap-on Vantage MT2400 will not turn on"? Apparently, the solder joints between the battery clips and circuit board are failure prone, but easily repaired.
Happy mothers day Mrs. O
Great video.
Sweet Math Eric! Nice job.
Thanks Rob!
good job brother!!!
My hf air compressor kept blowing my cigarette lighter fuse. I "upgraded" to 15a and life was good. After many years, ive lost and replaced said compressor with jumppack w/comp. Never thinking about that 15a fuse till now, thanks Dr. O. I will be downgrading soon. #trueconfessions
saulns Sometimes a cigarette lighter can blow a fuse by shorting internally. The element itself can short and blow the fuse. Replace the whole thing. On a Ford, the new one comes with spade terminal and the old had a stem in the center. You might have to install a female connector on the wire. The new has the female connector on the inner shell.
Awesome sir! Thank you very much
Took me a day and a half to watch this one - too many distractions around here! Cutting into my SMA time - can't be having that ... :D
Like 79,000 other people, I always enjoy the videos. You're the best! I noticed your Autel seems to have wiring diagrams and identifix on it. How does that work?? Thank u very much!!
your the man eric o
Very good job of troubleshooting very clear and precise I have a question what is a good price on a vantage pro and also are you selling your old Vantage and if so how much
Most wholesome mechanic in America
Eric, if you get the chance, I'd love to see a video with a Honda CR-V. Just bought one and would like to know what to watch out for.
Eric- I know you know this, but I'll point it out for other viewers here- in our part of the Country (Upstate, NY) and elsewhere- having a fully functional AC is also important for the cold Season. The HVAC system also operates in HOT Defrost mode, to quickly heat and dry the cabin air, preventing it from frosting the _inside_ glass, as well as the outside of the windshield, without totally relying on the engine temperature being hot.
Dude out here in Arizona brakes are optional. AC is not.
ok, dude
Can you replace the clutch without removing the a/c compressor from the car? Great video.
When you start bringing out the formula for Ohm's Law, you should put on a South Main Auto Repair lab coat!
Hey Mr. O, its getting hot down here, we need more AC videos
i like your video, you are great and Master Technician
You totally made the right call to hook up the current probe early. This is a non-obvious failure to the backyard mechanic because the new fuse fixed it and the clutch still works. So the average joe wouldn't necessarily expect the clutch. Sadly I noticed its also apparently leaking oil right into the alternator. Way to go Hyundai. They seem to get 95% of it right and just fall on their face for the last 5%.
windings either shorted to each other, or shorted to ground somewhere which would effectively shorten the length of the winding reducing the resistance.
Eat, Sleep and SMA all week baby.
cheers Eric o good stuff, I tipl I read years ago was that a fuse was manufactured to pop at 1.5 x its current rating i.e. 10 amps would blow at 15 amps, what do u think? thanks again, sandy
Just put a 15 amps fuse in and ship it! Hahahaha!!! 😂😂
You know what would be cool : since you said your jumper was getting warm to the touch, you could've used a thermal imaging camera to see that. Thanks for the videos Dr! 👍
SMA tee shirt - Ohm's law is NOT just a suggestion. Summarized by the better half's wow in sarcastic undertones = priceless stuff as usual. Wordplay with first observation being it's not intermittent. End wrap up we have a 3 ohm coil now at 1.5 and I'm thinking it didn't leave the factory like that. So just because we don't see it changing resistance it's not intermittent? Just a difference in time scale of observation window here. Sorry, in my book it's intermittent with an obvious tendency towards constant symptoms. And being intermittent it is unreliable and simply has to go. Silver play button is rapidly approaching - congrats as you well deserve it. Top drawer entertainment value every time.
Since it’s north east have you thought of cleaning the contacts since corrosion is a norm up there! More corrosion(oxidation) means more current pull
i had the same problem on my nissan versa but the mechanic made me bought a whole compessor when all i could have changed was the ac clutch.
Man you are a genius...
