- In this episode of K9 Mounties, a litter of puppies is examined to see which pups display the necessary characteristics and instincts expected from a Police Dog.
Watch as some of Canada’s finest police officers are pushed to the limit in a gruelling 17 week training programme at the PCMP’s Police Dog Service Training Centre in Canada. We then see how much they have learnt as their new skills are put to the test in tough real-life situations. Both dog and trainer go through this intense and physically demanding training which requires self motivation, tenacity and fitness. Teamwork is the goal, and the bond between man and dog is inseparable as they work together to find lost people, track wrong-doers, search for explosives and protect VIP’s.

That one puppy lagging behind sniffing everything and not paying attention is my spirit animal...
I noticed him.. And thought is he errant? Or is he instinctively acting like a rear guard?
Is there anything more adorable than watching all those puppies follow that man around?
I love at one point heading back inside one straggler stopped, ears perked and waited for the camera man. Friggin beautiful.
Yup! Noticed him too. Is he a straggler or an instinctive rear guard?
K9 officers amaze me every time ! Huge respect ❤️ for pawfficers
These service/police/military doggo videos have been helping me battle stress and sadness for the past several days. Thank you ❤.
The German Shepherd's excitement @ 4:13 is awesome. Such good dogs.
God bless those dogs. For good not for evil,
BEAUTIES! NOTHING LIKE A GSD !! GOD'S SPECIAL DOG !
Four legged cops are the best cops
Back in the days in Brasil my dad was a police and he have his K9 with him too. The dog name was Sultan.
As a dog trainer, I am so happy and proud to see that police dogs in Canada are not trained using aversive tools and methods unlike our neighbors to the south.
Not all trainers "to the south" use adverse methods or tools. I train and work my dogs very similarly to the way the Mounties train theirs. I use a lot of behavioral science and really understand what drives my dogs and what is best for them so they are happy, healthy, and genetically fulfilled.
@@CaffeinatedPhoenix I meant the police dogs in the U.S. are trained using aversive tools but not in Canada. There are many dog trainers, everywhere who use aversive tools and methods, and very few who do not depend on them and use natural and other effective methods of dog training.
Respectfully what do you mean?
@@walkingwithdogs8547 Well, as shown in this video, they are using play and praise to train the working dogs instead of using aversive tools and methods.
priceless to watch thankyou service 24/7 to police best friend police dogs there families in saving lives.
I think too many people don't realize training is a two way street. Your dog does need to understand your commands, but you must also be watching your dog, and learn what it does to each situation, their unique personalities, just because your last dog did something a certain way, doesn't mean your new dog will respond the same way, true success comes when a dog leans you, and you learn the dog! And of course LOVE that dog, they thrive on love and praise
Also people make the mistake of humanizing their dog. Dog's are DOGS not human beings, they don't speak English! Treat your dog like a dog! If you don't know what that means, you got your homework!
This is incredible - I really didn't realise everything that went into training a police dog and it all starts a couple weeks from when they're born - so cute!! Enjoyable to watch!! :)
Actually started decades before they’re born. 😉
I volunteer in a kennel that trains service dogs. The breeding programme and selection is very similar. My babies are just learning different skills that will change their “partner’s” life. ❤️🇨🇦
So, what happens to the other dogs who don't pass? A family I know had stated that they received one of these dogs and it "attacked" the one owner of the household. The dog aka puppy (age) was put down. I don't agree with what the family did and I feel like someone was lying (due to me unfortunately knowing the family). They said the dog responded to German commands, but was put through all of this training (police dog training). The owner had received a few bites on the hand and said he was cornered in the bathroom. I personally think the dog was abused while in their care.
Wow, such dedication and impressive training.
*sees puppy* PUPPY

Beautiful and Intelligent dogs ♥️
I thoroughly enjoyed this well presented informative video. I learned so much! So much goes into puppy k9 selection! This breeding program is producing super Alpha bionic nippers!
Love RCMP,, Im from Canada. Thank you for everything you do!, EVERYTHING SIRS and DOGS. Why can't this be Longer to Watch?
❤️God bless all SUPER HEROES!! Love!!!
Oh, how well I remember when I was told, TRUST YOUR DOG.
1:53 that dudes sidearm is out of control! lmao
WHO’S A GOOD BOY!?!!
GSD = God’s Special Dog ❤❤❤
Thank you very much for the video. It makes us realize how rigorous this type of work is for the handlers and their dogs. 👍
So true about that bite force. I myself have Akitas, well socialized, lovely animals. I have a smaller Japanese Akita girl who is a buddy to sick kids as well as visiting nursing homes. My sister fostered a working line German/malinois mix and adopted her. My nice cute Akita could break a raw chicken to some smaller raw bones; no dent on a beef rib. The GS/Malinois broke those bones as is they were nothing. And my sister dog was as sweet could be but it was “What’s next? How about now?’ And now? For hours. Thank you all for what to do. Love and hugs, an old ER RN.🐕❤
Thank you for your great service.Man or dog.# doglivesmathers
Reminds me of my training day's. The biggest lesson you will ever learn is to trust your dog. This mite sound simple to a lot of dog owners BUT ALL HANDLERS WILL HAVE THAT EXPERIENCE. WHEN IT HAPPENS YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THIS RESPONSE
CANADA!!! We back the badge....
amazing dogs. And resemblance to Jon Lovitz @ 20:30
Interesting video. Informative. Thank you.
Best police job. These guys are lucky.

Awesome video, for real!
Just wondering how many times than 5 kin which I counted), he said: "from over a 100, Only 12 is selected each year" 😅😅
They were testing you to see if you could learn through repetition , you passed.🤣🐕🦺😂
SmartK9s, merci.
13:35 to 13:50 I was like: ok this is one of the coolest jobs like running with a bunch of puppies 😍 they are suuuper cute
I hope they still get lots of Momma time when they're little.
Top notch
Awesome
is this the first episode? I ask, because the first notification I received for this series links to a 'not available in this country'.
Check the rest of the videos on their channel "K9 Mounties". Yup, it seems to be a series.
What happens to the dogs that are not chosen? Can they be adopted out?
Susanne Tilger yes
@kiki the gerbil it depends on the aggression and the adoptability and if not put down
K-9 is The most faithful friend
Inteteresting
I'd like to find more information on the imprinting process that the police use does anybody who where I could find material on the pups need to go through?
Try looking for related subjects at www.leerburg.com

Stupendiiiiii!!!!! I pastori tedeschiiiii!!!!!
Well done❤Good Dog
Jon Lovits is a K9 handler/trainer now 0:36 ...? I guess there IS life after Hollywood! haha ha
K9 Indonesia ❤️❤️❤️❤️
What happens to the pups that dont cut it? Are they sold off or given to RCMP officers? How does that work?
Yes, they’re placed in homes... along with being neutered/spayed when age appropriate.
One of these reject puppies still make a great better than average German Shepard guard dog i reckon. Where can you go pick up a rejected puppy?
Two words . natral selection.🤯
Can you help me train my wolf k9 to be a guard dog?
What happens when the dog dies, do they start over?
I wonder what happens to the ones who don't make the cut. I only know of one dog that came from this program. Excellent dog btw. Do they get discarded ( killed)?
I'm not sure but I highly doubt they kill the dog
*Cute aggression* rising....
Will you do a series on how to train a dog to bite
velocity it’s basically started with tug and teasing. If the dog lets go before you ask then you tease tease tease so the next time they bite it they don’t let go
grab him by his balls he will bite...lol
They shouldn’t that info should not be readily available without an actual trainer working with someone
How can i train my dog as K 9 dog
Dream Job.
I wish the US did things like this. Our whole arrangement is pretty haphazard.
what /
I want that job
what happens to the puppies who don't make it in the program?
Probably adopted as a pet
Wow amazing 🇨🇦❤️
Indonesia ❤️❤️❤️❤️
A dream for me ❤😊
Before choosing puppies you have to first select a suitable female and male. Know the bloodlines. What have the bloodlines given, what are the positive and negative things of the male and femal. How can you compensate one with the other. Bloodlines is the basis and yes females are as important for genetics as males.
The choosing part we have seen this many time, many different tests, many are not even to be taken serious. It all depends on what type of dog are you looking for. We had dogs lions very diffiuclt to handle for an average handler. And yes many are just average handlers not knowing how to read dogs.
Last year someone also tested our litter and some were not ok according to this test. 1 female now active dual purpose police dog, other one passive drug dog. Some pups take longer to get mature.
In the end you can select a pup now but knowing the bloodlines, than doing good training will only show you after 1 year if they are really suitable and if they will become an ok , average or super police dog. But even than we sometimes see that there also needs to be a match between dog and handler and yes sometimes the combination is not ideal and another handler would be better.
The producers of this video made sure to omit the non-wholesome parts.
Ich liebe den DSH
Me too!
What happens to the other puppies that are not selected ?
In my country Brazil, they are adopted, but first the police are the ones who can choose and then normal people.
They are sold into slavery.
they are sold into sport homes

It was scary to see!
Do the artificial bred female , deliver as well as naturally bred ones
Yes.

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
😙😙😙😙😙xxxxxxx from IT,,,
What if one of the females is a really good leader type characteristic confident and brave what if the dog doesn’t want to be bred I know probably not all of them are bred and I think there is females that do K-9 work right?
females are generaly not used in police work even though they can be just as good. For some simple reason male are generaly bigger more imposing and just by their look impose respect. And if you have a really good female free of genetics defect with the quality needed your going to use it for breeding and obviously the bitch cant work during pregnancy.
@@lexus9337 lmaoo "and the bitch cant work during pregnancy" lol
Some females can even be better. However Lexus nailed the reasons why. (I work with a female k9)
@@Sam-qm4vb you know a female dog used for breeding is called a bitch right? They've been called that for as long as anyone alive can remember 😂
Is generally more used in British diction, but isnt uncommon by breeders
@@gui4992 yeah ik, but i just found it funny lol😂
let the dog have some
Plese tell me what bloodline the dog at 18:20 is, these are outstanding dogs!
DDR, West german, or Chzeck?
as long as you folks dont have to sick them on Native WaterProtectors again!!
what do you mean ? Just curious
The Average Pup Litter is 8, if 1 in 3 will make it, what about the 6 Pups left?
If adoptable they get adopted
Seems like a poor decision to take ~10 pups near a freeway off lead. If one bolts and you run to try to scoop it up the rest will be two steps behind.
I don’t understand k9=German sheperd?
k9 is the police abbreviation for a canine/dog
DinotheOp Z But Belgian Malinois is best more aggressive than GSD. But both are good though.
@@bernadettecasenas213 I think the Malinois may not be a good breed for the riggers of Canada and that is why the RMCP use the German-Shephard.
How about love an affection, not passing a course by not peering
I noticed that they mention men and not women dog handlers. Interesting
Maybe you should use the same breeding program for the dog handlers
Putting them upside down and putting them in all different directions than some things are crying. That’s sad. OK, I know it’s done for a reason.
Did they say that after 7 and 8 year they put the dogs down.
No, they retire.
How many movie star look-a-likes are there in this video? Wow...
