    This video will help you to change a gear oil on a 150 cc gy6 engine scooter.
    Most scooters recommend changing the gear oil at least every 1500 miles. At the rear of the CVT on the left side of the bike there are drain and fill plugs for the transmission. Place the oil drain container under the drain plug. Now remove the filler plug first, then the drain plug and about 100 to 200cc of oil will drain out then screw the drain plug back into the transmission case. To refill the transmission, you squirt oil into the fill hole until it runs back out. That's your level check! Use the recommended oil, which in most cases is 80W-90 gear oil . To get it into the small hole you need to buy the oil in a plastic bottle with a long plastic tip, which you can use to directly squirt oil to the transmission fill hole. When it starts to run back out, it's full and you can replace the fill plug .
    You will need a 10mm socket wrench and about 10 minutes of your time.

      virberello welcome friend. I also subscribed. Qeustion...can a GY6 49cc with all emmisons system removed need to use a petcock? Reason I'm asking is new gas tank only has one nipple on bottom for a fuel line only. Old tank has nipple on top and larger opening on bottom where the stem goes up into the tank from the petcock that screws in on bottom. Can I just run straight full line from tank to carb and plug the two air ends on the manifold. And have you ever made a video on storing your scooter for winter and then what to do for it in the spring.

    • @VirberelloScooterTips
      @VirberelloScooterTips  Před 6 lety

      Hello Morris in reality for me you do not really need a petcock valve you can bypass that and have a better fuel flow, a petcock valve is the fist step of safety for fuel but you can replace that with a manual valve. the key of the all fuel system is the carburetor floater that is doing the job but if the floater fail and you forgot to close the manual valve when you park your scooter you will lose all the fuel or float the engine. so the petcock is a safety device . Great idea for the new video thanks I wasn't thinking about that because I leave in sunny south Florida and I never store my scooter :-)

    50cc GY6 here. I have a new variator and clutch. Adjusted valves, new everything ignition wise, new carb new instake manifold. Still have this issue. The GY6 runs smooth and revs great!! High rpm. The issue is it will not go past 16-18 mph. This is a 150cc ATV btw that should do 40mph easy.
    Also it vibrates the shit out of you. I have unchained the rear axle to rev it and it still vibrates bad so it not the axle. Only thing I can think is these gears being bad. Help what do you think?!?!?

      @VirberelloScooterTips  Před 5 lety +1

      Hello my friend with all the good changes that you have done to your gy6 the scooter should be running great the thing that come to my mind is a better exhaust for the speed and for the vibration I dont think is the gears but more the variator or variator crankshaft ( make sure the variator is installed correctly sometimes during install the weights can fall out of their slot.) unfortunately sometime you have to look all over the scooter to find a little problem that will make your scooter run better . I bought this oil thinking it was the one i was supposed to use for my scooter but I found out I need GL-3 oil would it damage my scooter if i used this one instead?

    • @VirberelloScooterTips
      @VirberelloScooterTips  Před rokem

      Using 80W-90 gear oil instead of the recommended GL-3 oil in your scooter's transmission could potentially lead to issues and may not provide optimal performance. Here's what you should consider:
      Viscosity and Lubrication Properties: Gear oils have different viscosity ratings, represented by numbers like 80W-90. These numbers indicate the oil's flow characteristics at different temperatures. GL-3 is a specification that ensures proper lubrication and protection for certain types of gears, particularly those found in manual transmissions. The use of an oil with the wrong viscosity or lubrication properties might result in inadequate protection and increased wear on the gears.
      Additives and Properties: GL-3 oil is formulated with specific additives and properties to meet the requirements of manual transmissions. Using a different type of gear oil might not provide the same level of protection against corrosion, oxidation, and wear, which can lead to premature failure of transmission components.
      Compatibility: It's important to ensure that the oil you use is compatible with the materials used in your scooter's transmission. Using the wrong type of oil could potentially cause seal and gasket degradation, leading to leaks.
      Manufacturer Recommendations: Manufacturer recommendations exist for a reason. They are based on extensive testing and engineering to ensure that your scooter operates optimally and reliably. Deviating from these recommendations could result in subpar performance and potential long-term damage.
      It's recommended that you drain the incorrect gear oil and replace it with the correct GL-3 oil as per the manufacturer's specifications. If you're unsure about the compatibility of the gear oil you purchased, you should consult your scooter's owner's manual or contact a professional mechanic for guidance. Using the correct oil will help ensure the longevity and smooth operation of your scooter's transmission.

    My drain bolt is literally stuck in place, My ratchet, or wench cannot get a grip to remove it, do you have any ideas on how I could solve this?

    • @VirberelloScooterTips
      @VirberelloScooterTips  Před 14 dny +1

      A stuck drain bolt can be frustrating, but there are a few methods you can try to get it loose:
      Penetrating Oil: Apply a generous amount of penetrating oil (like WD-40 or PB Blaster) to the drain bolt and let it sit for at least 15-20 minutes. This can help loosen any rust or debris that's causing the bolt to stick.
      Heat: Carefully apply heat to the area around the drain bolt using a heat gun or a propane torch. The heat can cause the metal to expand slightly, which might help break the bond. Be careful not to overheat and avoid any nearby plastic parts or seals.
      Use a Breaker Bar: If your ratchet or wrench isn't giving you enough leverage, try using a breaker bar. This will give you more torque to break the bolt free. If you don't have a breaker bar, you can slide a metal pipe over the handle of your wrench or ratchet to increase leverage.
      Impact Wrench: If you have access to an impact wrench, it can provide short, powerful bursts of torque that might break the bolt loose. Just be careful not to strip the bolt head.
      Bolt Extractor Socket: If the bolt head is already rounded, you can use a bolt extractor socket. These are designed to grip stripped or rounded bolts more effectively.
      Tap with a Hammer: Sometimes, gently tapping the bolt head with a hammer can help to jar it loose. Be careful not to damage the bolt or surrounding areas.
      Use a Vise-Grip: If the bolt head is really damaged, you can try locking a pair of vise-grip pliers onto the bolt and turning it that way.
      If all else fails and the bolt is really seized, you may need to take the scooter to a mechanic, who might have more specialized tools for removing stuck bolts.

      The gear oil sold at Pep Boys, Western Auto, or any other general automotive store may be similar in composition to the gear oil sold at a motorcycle store, but they are not necessarily the same.
      Motorcycles have specific requirements for their gear oil, which can differ from the requirements for other vehicles. Hi for the scooter engine my favorite is 10w 40 but if you have a 10w 30 in the house is ok for the winter if you live in a cold area. The two oil types differ in their high temperature viscosity, and 10w40 is thicker than 10w30 when it comes to high temperatures. Thank you for watching my video

    Hello Virebello, I have a question for you. I was wondering why my scooter does not start up on the first try. The person I bought it from said they already had it serviced and that it just needed to be warmed up everyday. What is your opinion?

    • @VirberelloScooterTips
      @VirberelloScooterTips  Před 7 lety +3

      Hello Putin Diaz if the scooter is not starting at the fist try can be many many things when you buy the scooter they can say they service yesterday to make the deal and many mechanic do not love their profession they only do it for the money but is you who ride the scooter . Your scooter or motorcycle is made from many parts working together like an orchestra to make sure is working right need to be in tune. Start from the spark plug and make sure you spark plug is nice clean and give you a strong spark and is gap right many sparkplug are allready gaped but if is not gap right your scooter will not start at first try if not buy a new one $6 to $10 check my video here ==>> czcams.com/video/dFSasN8WQl4/video.html cleanthe check filter if is not clean === >>> czcams.com/video/T31bHL2jyvs/video.html
      buy new one very cheap on amazon.
      Make sure your fuel filter under the seat is clean and you need to make sure the gas goes to your carburetor from the gas tank if your scooter is older I say around 5000 to 6000 miles is possible that you need a valve adjustment.
      Some time in Gy6 carburetors the automatic chock fail the only easy way to test that is to remove the filter connection in the back side of you carburetor and place your hand covering the rear air intake with your hand reducing hair flow and starting your scooter and if it start right that is the problem.
      Anyway can be many many things is all about try to find what is not performing properly

      @VirberelloScooterTips  Před 6 lety +1

      Hello Lucas gear oil is heavy duty but not synthetic and will be great for around 2000 miles. You do not need to spend extra money on synthetic because the temperature on the rear gear box they do not go very high and the oil is not breaking down very easily so will last longer. refilling your gear oil , hear is a way that's easy, take and get a peace of fuel hose abut six inch. cut the top of your oil bottle off, fit your fuel line on the tip of your oil bottle. this way you can hold your oil bottle up wright and easy to fill..
