"(At Your Best) You Are Love" is a song by The Isley Brothers, originally a radio hit in 1976. It was originally dedicated to their mother.
Eighteen years later, the song was covered by American singer Aaliyah for her debut studio album Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. Released as the album's second single, it peaked at number six on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the R&B singles chart, it also peaked at number 27 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 12 on the Tokio Hot 100 chart in Japan.[1] The song was certified gold single by RIAA on October 25, 1994.[2] In 2010 Canadian rapper Drake sampled Aaliyah's version of the song in his song "Unforgettable"; four years later singer Tamar Braxton sampled this song for her single "Let Me Know" featuring Future. In 2017, Sevyn Streeter used an interpolation of the song for her hit, "Before I Do", the lead single from her album Girl Disrupted. - wikipedia

The Isley brothers! It's their song, so naturally they did it best! For the younger generation; they'll say Aaliyah did. She did a wonderful job with her rendition of the song.
The isely brothers actually said they're making it her song forevet because she made it famous
@@marilynking3350 ok... Now I must say: I loved when she and R. Kellz made the remix!
I heard her version first but I have to disagree. The OG version is miles ahead.
@@belafonte5519 EXACTLY!
Exactly, Dragon.
The perfect song for Aaliyah's angelic voice. Isley's killed it but Aaliyah's version is so pure. Going with Aaliyah on this one.
I find both versions to be winners. AAliyah made the song her own and complimented the greatness of the Isley Brothers when she remade their song. I view her version as a compliment to the actual greatness of the Isley Brothers, a musical group that is a legend and will always be. Therefore, I love the original version of the song and also the compliment made by Aaliyah to the original song.
💝👍
The Isley Brothers are a music dynasty. Just read their lyrics and listen to their music over time. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. She was full of promise..RIP.
You can't take a Isley Brother song and do it better than the way they did it... Don't play with me like that.
The isely brothers actually daid they're making the song hers forever because she made it famous
Love love love me some isley brothers but I like Aaliyah verson,
Fo sho, I love both version, Aaliyah, remake is just as good as the Isle Brothers.
Isleys' version is classic!
@DD LUMP Groove Theory did a very beautiful rendition of Hello but none can compare to the Todd Rundgren original.
I grew up on Aaliyah's version and didn't even know the Isley Brothers did it till I was older The Isley Brothers did it better to me
First, all of the Artists here are proven to have legendary status. I will always have to go with the Isley Brothers concerning this song. I will however NEVER disregard Aaliyah's version. We will have a song with a 2 generational versions. Both versions are vivid and beautiful.
Jerome Lockhart agree thank you !
Unfair comparison to compare aliyah as legendary to the Isley brothers c'mon now
RESPECT to the Isleys but this belongs to Aaliyah! Her Angelic flow in how she reinterpreted this song and made it Completely hers...CLASSIC! This is a Blueprint for All Singers who want to stand out on their own but Humbly Pay Homage to those who came before them! #GreatVideo!
Aaliyah! Her voice is purely soothing! Perfect for this song!
The Isleys all the way
Wow..I didn't know that the Isleys' version was dedicated to their Mother. Since knowing that, with respect to Aaliyah, I'll give my vote to the Isleys!
'Hi
@DD LUMP LA? or Ohio? That's so awesome!!! You probably have intense personal memories! I'm not been loving this era.
@DD LUMP First smile tday
@DD LUMP 2/6 Ohio -Isley's Day!
@DD LUMP MAYBE YOU SING IN CHURCH STILL? I WISH I COULD HEAR YOU SING....ANYTHING! I WAS A KEYBOARD PLAYER. I DID HAVE TO STOP BUT I TRY TO FORCE MYSELF TO PLAY SOMETIMES. I REALLY MISS JAMES INGRAM A LOT! I MISS SO MANY PEOPLE AND THIS ERA HAS BROUGHT ME VERY DOWN. YOUR NAME SEEMS....DIFFERENT'. - I AM JJ BUMP'
The ogs Isley brothers
Loved BOTH versions of this song. Ronald Isley can interpret and emote a song like no other artist. Aaliyah was able to capture something special in her version by singing it simply without a lot of embelishments, but at a quicker tempo. I have to pick the original over the cover, because it was a clear direct message to the object of his affection. 🎤🎶💟
This is a question need not asked. Isley Brothers without a doubt. However, Aaliyah did an excellent job.
TheKaluha88 no it’s not without a doubt shordy sound like a ANGEL on here my g Dey killed it tho but shordy jus took it there
Fact!! No debate or arguments here.
Stop, she was absolutely out of tune at the very beginning. Most people are tone-deaf and obsessed with looks, this is why most 90's music (and today) SUCKS.
Agreed!
Well Spoken! AAliyah did an excellent job! The Isley too classic, nuff said!
OK, I've always debated this one! I've always loved Aaliyah's version just because I like singing it along with her. But, I never can listen to one version w/o listening to the other. I really love them both 😍
One side of the fence....you can't straddle the barb wire
As I DO....WELL Put & Shared****!!!!!
The Isley Brothers! They are legends!
The Isley’s without a doubt
It's the Isley Brothers for me hands down. 🖤💯 6 2.2020
Mr.Bigs voice cuts threw the music like ninja sword. Precise and so so soulful. I love Aaliyah's version is sweet. Isley's hands down
This isn't even fair...smh...RIP Aaliyah.....Really?
Aaliyah’s version brings back many sentimental memories, so my ♥️ is with Aaliyah!
To me ,both sound good. I grew up listening the Isley Brothers👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟, and my children grew up listening to Aaliyah👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Nobody does it better than the ORIGINAL. "😘 ISLEY BROTHERS "❤
"WHAT"? 😕
No Question who did it BEST ... ✊
Shut up
@@aaliyah7804 who u talkn bout ???

Wats really goin on ?
I have to say the original Isley Brothers ,Aaliyah did a exciting updated as well.
You wrong for this MIKE!! they’re both classic!! Soulful!! Great production!! I CAN’T CALL IT
Love Aaliyah like there is no tomorrow, but the Isley Brothers have this one. The melody just hits better.
The winner is : The Isley Brothers without question.
Bitch. Aaliyah's version rocked. Isley's version sounded rather odd. This fitted a woman's touch a lot better.
@@devontehuntley6274 so says a hip hopper 🙄
@@b1bo840 y’all cut it out before I get my belt😤
YES!!!! the Isley brothers.
@@katyarnold6757 Katy, go become cat food.
I wish people would just stop comparing singer’s who have beautiful talented soulful voices. BOTH did and amazing job... each individual has their own unique elements. I so freaking love that in any artists. God Blessed all amazing talented voices. BOTH GENERATION I ADORE! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
InDEED Sister*****!!!!
Isley Brothers ✊🏽❤️
RIP , Aaliyah ....
Isley Bros hands down. Aaliyah did the song justice but her version always felt like someone singing in a teenage pageant to me. Great interpretation but missing the soulfulness the song requires to make it sweet to the ear.
I felt the same way with Aaliyah's version. Okay to sing for a family event.
...VERY well said!!!
When the Brothers come in harmonizing Wow
You know who did it best; The Isley Brother's. But Aaliyah's take on it, is good as well. I like them both💖
I know who did it best and it's Aaliyah sorry 🙃
Isely brothers, they to smooth wit it
Nobody can compare with the Isley Brothers. They are one of the baddest groups ever. 😃😉
Sit down because they're not all of that.
@@devontehuntley6274 Shut up! you go somewhere and sit down.... Troll
@@neffii8 How about you go eat dry paint with your hateful ass? Dissing Aaliyah like she didn't put her effort into making this song a gem when she did. Don't let her young age and the fact she didn't originate it get you all confused and finnicky. You want to talk about covers not worth a damn then come back to me with Frank Ocean's take on the song because that I can agree with you on. But Aaliyah? She soooared. If anyone can compared, it's AALIYAH and she delivered. Now give her the credit. Don't mess with me. You shut up with this talk on no one can out-do the Isleys. I will out-do you if you keep up this abomination talk.
@@devontehuntley6274 You are an Ignorance Azz Troll. I did not dis Aaliyah FOOL...I don't see you bringing that Smoke to the brothers in the chat you PUSSY!!!! Next time you on to the restroom make sure you sit your azz down....
@@neffii8 EXCUSE ME? You're not reading enough comments because I am cursing out some GUYS too who are also hating like Richard Copeland and Paul Graves to name a couple. So you hate on good covers and now can't pay attention to comments before running your yap. How embarrassing. I always sit down when I am in the restroom. Seems like your stupid ass needs to REST completely and take a looooooooong nap.
Isley Brothers
Aaliyah did a great do over due to age she was etc plus never heard tune before she did it! But the Isly Bros smashed it really with live instruments not living in such a digital age...
AALIYAH'S VERSION IS THE BEST R.I.P AALIYAH YOU WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF MY FAVOURITE FEMALE ARTIST OF ALL TIME.
Hands down, the Isley Brothers
I LOVE THEM BOTH SO ITS A TIE FOR ME👍🏽
Great upload
Of course they did it better, but she did her thang too, especially that remix baby, Aaliyah forever the world definitely misses her
The Isley Brothers. Aaliyah did a good job. But that original is the business.
I love the Aaliyah and most things 90s but I gotta go with The Isely Brothers.
Man this is hard but Aaliyah version tho sounds like an Angel at best yea this is tough ima choose both💯
Aaliyah... even Ron said it's her song now. This illustrated how clear her phrasing truly was even at 14. What she did with her voice, they did with the instrumentation.
Not even close "The Isley Brother."
I use to entertain my lady friends with the isley brothers classics, this is Ron isley at his prime and we're supposed to make a comparison with aaliyah, no way! That's like making over the Cadillac, no matter what you add or take off a classic is a classic. If the Isley brothers were some mediocre group maybe you could compare the two , she added to the popularity, i love her voice ( RIP) but the Isley brothers music is like the pyramids, it has stood the test of time and will forever be around. This was some of the first music we ordered whenever my father was out the house or at work, we were only allowed to listen to jazz or gospel. we ordered LP's from Colombia record house.
This young lady has a voice of an angel, no doubt.. But, this is our song.. When the Isley Brothers recorded it.. So.. Isley Brothers, still have the best of this.. My opinion..
no comparison...the original hands down......
AALIYAH! AALIYAH! AALIYAH! I love her voice!
Better put some RESPECT on the Isleys! The original enough said.
The Isley's of course😊. However Aalliyah's is beautiful too!
Much respect to Aaliyah but the Isleys did the damn thing!!
MR. BIG'S VOICE and VOCALS are ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS on point. SMOOTH and SILKY... (That's Ronald Isley, for all ya'll youngsters out there.) That man WAS (AND IS) amazing!
THE ISLEYBROTHERS ONLY PERIOD
I'm riding with Aaliyah on this one not taking away a thing from the incomparable, legendary Isley brothers! Hers just has that magical summertime love feel... RIP queen!
I like both versions!!!👍🎶😊
Both sound great. Yet, there's more Depth vibration and Blackness that resonates within the Isleys original version.
Isley brothers all day everyday....
Aaliyah did an excellent job. I really respect her version.....BUT...there isn't a question of which is better (in my mind). The Isley Brothers delivered a masterpiece with their classic. The vocals, the music, the delivery are all absolutely perfect. Perfect.
I love Aaliyah, I’m a huge fan but without question, The Isley Brothers 💯
Dis the reason i subscribed to yall
I'm old school, so of course I gotta give it to the isley brothers. Aaliyah(R.I.P.), was a brilliantly talented young woman whom, tragically, never reached her full potential, but the Isley guy's smooth delivery and relaxed vocals top this tune in their favor.
DEFINITELY the Isley Brothers!!!!!!!!!!!!! No comparison!
You disgust me. Aaliyah's version is absolutely fabulous so you better give it the credit it deserves.
@@devontehuntley6274 Dang! People on CZcams really be goin through something!😂😂😂
@@loniwilliams2147 When it comes to idiots disrespecting MY Aaliyah like she didn't do her THAAAAAAANG with this song, then I tend to get very salty. How dare you act like her version is just down under for there to be "no comparison". That is a devastating insult. Say that mess when comparing Isley's to Frank Ocean's version, not this grogeous remedy gem by the Holy Aaliyah. You better get on your knees and pray to Jesus right now. Too much devil talk coming from you. -_-
@@devontehuntley6274 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂🤣🤣🤣
The Isley Brothers did their thing on this one!🏆
The Isley Brothers- Hello it's me vs. Erykah Badu- Hello🤔
It's their thang did what they wanted to do.
AAlyah gave a lot of love and respect for the Isley Brothers! Her rendition is excellent! Such a beautifully penned song by Ernie Isley! Give the Isley there due respect ✊🏿!
The islely brothers without a doubt. Ron isley had a real vioce.
And Aaliyah didn't? How insulting.
So does Aaliyah weirdo 😐
Both great and the right person remade it ❤
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Aaliyah!... Everything she did. I'm a LATE 70's / EARLY 80's kid though.... So, Isley Bros. version is MORE LIT... Of Course!
Indisputable...Isleys hands down.
Both are great....but aaliyah body thisssss gotta give it to babygirl
Mike D, I have a request: TLC vs. PRINCE "IF I Was Your Girlfriend"...I love this song!
Isley Brother’s!!!!
Absolutely luv this song!! when i first heard of aaliyah!!
The remix of Aaliyah is better the Isley's, but the original by the Isley brothers is better than Aaliyah's.
Big facts
I love that remix 😍
😂😂I'll agree with that
When remixes was done right back in the day!
I'm going with Aaliyah. It just hits different for me. Such a beautiful and angelic rendition. The original is incredible and if we're going off vocal ability/skill it would go to The Isley Brothers. Aaliyah's version is just one of my go-to songs when I need to get my mind off mess. It's up there with "It'll All Be Over" by the Supreme Jubilees for me.
Of course the Isley Brothers
I love them both. Don't make me pick....😊😊
Cmon son.
Come on now...stop playing. You KNOW the Isley's win this one hands down. Game over. Case closed. NEXT....
Thier is absolutely nobody on this earth that ever touch a voice smoother than butter.
No one else posses this man skillset.
NO ONE!!!!!!!!
Aaliyah did her thang but she cudnt wit Biggs n nem version
Both did good. This song is so angelic & unique
I'm not a proponent of remakes, but aaliyah made it her own!! And I think the Isley Brothers, would agree!
That's how I see it as well, Isaac.
Shout out for my hometown girl Aaliyah. I always loved both because each one reminds me of a different space in time. I associate music with life. However, the Isleys hold the master key.
Can the CHURCH of REELBLACK say
The Isley Brothers? 😁
Biggs dem made this for da cadillacs n macs💯💯💯💪💪💨
This song makes me sad cause I remember this song playing so much when Aaliyah passed away
Both, different periods.
"The Isley Bros." I re-wrote the lyrics of Driftin on a memory" and that song became my relative's class song. (Should of became a song writer now that I think about it. Lol!)
I love both versions ❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
I've loved Aaliyah's version for years and hearing the Iseley's here for the first time. I still prefer Aaliyah's.
⭐🏆 It's a tie 👑⭐
No disrespect to the Isley brothers they are the originals but Aaliyah did the remake version justice it's right up there with them I never heard a better version and she did hers back in the 94 a good time in music
I love Aaliyah but the Isleys original version hands down is the definitive rendition of the song.
Also, if it's possible brother, can we do a Yesterday rendition competition. Donny Hathaway's live version versus Marvin Gaye's and The Beatles, it'd be much appreciated.
I swear this a hard one Aaliyah rides the song so gracefully and the Isley put soul into it both in my playlist
Exactly!!
Yes!
You didn't answer the question
@@kingkumul9386 oh if I had to choose it would be THE ISLEY BROTHERS
The ISLEY BROTHERS of course...AAliyah held it down but there is only one Isley Brothers.
ISLEY BROTHER'S ALL DAY...😉
The Isley Brothers did it better.
A true fan 💖💃🏼🕺🏼💃🏼💯✨
