    So immensely important topic, thanks so much!!
    "People are suffering because they are alone and are going unrecognized. All of their social behavior, their foolishness and their tragedy, is expressing this desire and need to be recognized. If you listen carefully, even beyond what they are telling you or demonstrating to you, you will hear the great need of their soul, and you will feel compassion for them. You will see that even in their anger or their frustration, in their judgment or condemnation of others, you will see this need for recognition. This will temper your judgment of them. This will enable compassion to arise, naturally-not as a kind of forced exercise, but naturally. As you feel your own need to be recognized and to recognize yourself, you will see this in people around you, and it will move you. You will feel compassion for them, and you will see their dilemma."
    (From Deeper Recognition in Relationships, by Marshall Vian Summers. It's a chapter which you can read online for free. Very inspiring one!)

    Love this. I went to a hotel once and my in room gift was a packet of my brand of cigarettes. I found out afterwards that they called a colleague before i left for my trip to find out what i smoked. Inexpensive daily item, much cheaper than a bottle of hotel house wine, but i will remember the gesture forever.

    I agree with most of his podcasts, sadly, not this one.
    I NEED my boss/college/underling to give me the facts, not emo's. This is work, not therapy.
    I ain't no millennial, I'm gen-x. I'll listen to the facts and everything that is relevant and makes sens.
    Keep your feelings at home, lets keep it professional and real at the workfloor.

    • @XPuntar
      @XPuntar Před 2 lety

      No you are actually wrong. If the boss does not "listen" it is not your fault!
      Or just ask the boss on the subject, "Do you want me to listen or you want problem solving?"
      Vast majority of people even on top management position are bad listeners or even worse they want for whatever reasons (mostly selfish and egoistical) impose their own will on their subordinates or just instill fear to control those under them!
      And another thing you should understand is that in every conversation there are emotions even where data and facts are presented! That is what makes us a human!

    • @hendrikmoons8218
      @hendrikmoons8218 Před 2 lety +1

      @@XPuntar That may be true, especially at high level. What I experience at work floor/factory level is however that this is abused to get out of the job by always the same folks. While the rest gets the job done.
      You indeed need to be capable to talk about these things, but for everything there is a time and a place.
      What I am getting at is that emotions should not be a reason to constantly 'dodge' tasks, so someone else does your job instead.

    So important to LISTEN FOR MEANING NOT TO REPLY!!... One of the most useful ways I've found to make people feel listened is ask questions, but not for facts, ask CLARIFYING questions... In the example of "there is something in my eye" is can be as simple as "okay, tell me, where do you feel it? What is it that you're feeling?" It may make NO difference whatsoever in the response you get from that person, but they will feel like they can express themselves
