This went great! I tried it with my mom and it went very well! Although, we were quite hesitant because of the comments about how it would break my microwave. But we tried it and it went really well! My microwave was 1000 watts and i microwaved it for 3 minutes. The syrup dries up really fast though. I suggest you use a porcelain bowl instead of glass(because some people keep saying it will shatter) and when you take it out use a glove so you don't get burned. It’s Chinese. Tang- means sugar, Hulu- (bottle shaped) gourd. The candied fruit on the skewer has a shape similar to a gourd when stacked. Tang-Hulu, pretty simple to pronounce!
Do not try this in the microwave. The glass can still shatter even if it is microwave-safe. It was never made to be heated to that high of a temperature. Check online you can see many stories of how this exact same recipe being done in the microwave causes 2nd to 3rd-degree burn, all using microwave-safe containers. Just do it on a stove and use a regular saucepan. Check Ann Reardon video if you want more info she made a great video on this.

As a practicing pastry chef, seeing you put sugar in the microwave makes me want to cry :,] It’s very easy for the sugar to get too hot in the microwave so it’s best to just put it on the stove and let it simmer. At max sugar is supposed to go into the microwave for 10 seconds, only enough to be able to work with again after it hardens.
traditionally, tanghulu is made of hawthorn berries but u can rlly make it however u want. i suggest trying to find hawthorn berries and make it into tnaghulu because it’s RLLY good.
YESS!! It pains me so much as someone from China when I see everyone doing all those different fruits because the hawthorns are legit the best and you could make them with red bean stuffing as well😭
Based on true experience, i tried making this, my bowl did indeed explode, though not inside the microwave. It waited for me to take it out and then exploded. I was lucky enough to stop it in time with a plasic lid. Ended up throwing away both the plastic cover and the bowl. I dont know if the issue was that my bowl was not microwavable or the sugar or that i put it in there for too long (3mins?) Totally not worth it. My tanghulu was too sweet
And if you do not use a microwave safe container, for the temps melted sugar gets to, you could get serious burns, the bottom can drop out of the container as you lift it, or it can crack suddenly. Sugar causes severe, skin graft level burns if you're not very careful!
I tried it top tips -have a deep Cup or bowl of ice water -have a deep bowl or for the melted sugar so it's even -keep it in the ice for at least 45 seconds -to wash the bowls put under hot water 😊enjoy😊 P. S it is amazing with grapes, strawberries and tangerines

Try sugar free tanghulu all you have to do is freeze any fruit until Frozen take it out of the refrigerator dip it into ice water and then there will be this crunchy outside that's how you know it's done ✅

Melt jolly ranchers and coat the fruit in a pot then get a bowl of ice water and put them in there for about 2 minutes make sure it is fully hard or it will get stuck in your teeth also you might need to change out the water
