How A 1920s Effanbee Doll Is Professionally Restored - Zábava
Hi! I’m the guy who did this restoration! Thank you all so much for the kind words, it means the absolute world to me. Thanks, Insider!!!
Thanks to you,great vid 🙏
It was super cool and fun to watch :D
you do amazing work! this was so amazing! I love seeing old dolls being restored! 💖😊
your really talented
Nightmares were already forming in my head no offense
Everyone gangsta until this doll start rotating its head and say Hi dear.
Dude when i was a kid....my grandparents gave me a doll like that every night whenever i go to bed i feel like that doll always stares at me or maybe its just my imagination when i was kid .... I still have the doll in my storage box its still creepy ngl
Ps: i cant throw it cuz my mom said it was antique

Out of context this sounds like some horror film ending
Uhhhhhh
This doll was loved once and now it can be loved again. Someone's great grandparent probably held this doll to sleep and brought it to to playdates. That's beautiful not scary
It hit hard when he said “Whoever owned this doll definitely loved it a lot”. A small possession that might mean the world to us and be with us everywhere we go could be as meaningful as merely a vanity piece of plastic in 100 years.
@@ryangretlein656 That's a really weird thought. It reminds me of a book a saw at the thrift store earlier. The inscription said something like, " To my dearest friend Mabel, Merry Christmas 1913." And the book looked really loved, too. And I thought, that could be very well be one of my things one day.
Lmao but the doll is terrifying (in the beginning )
@Pristine Artifact That's so cool! I would love to know the name of it. It sounds pretty interesting.
@Pristine Artifact i recently found one of my dad's old thrifted books that had a love letter in it. he wrote the date december 24, 2003 and was gifting the book to someone (presumably his wife) named Maddie. i wonder what happened to have that book end up being bought by my dad.
Its restored from very creepy to creepy. Nicely done.
Lmao I swear yall are such babies its just a pretty doll he gave her a new life and yall wanna cry over a TOY
Exactly what I was thinking.
My grandma had these types of dolls in her spare room and when ever I would sleep over her dolls would stare at me in my sleep. Very creepy.

So pretty. My mother’s childhood doll was badly damaged when her fathers car caught fire. The doll was rescued from the fire but singed and smoke damaged. 30 years later I found a talented roll maker who restored it. It was amazing the transformation. You have such a unique talent.
It's impressive that a baker also had the skill to restore a doll! Some people are incredibly multi-talented!
Her father caught fire? I hope he wasn't hurt much. And could you explain what a "roll maker" does?
this ngl looks like that scene from toy story 2 with the dude collector and woody and stuff

Yes this doll may be creepy but is apart of our history it is very significant for its time being from the 20s it was an advancement around then because the baby looked more realistic, now we have babies that look even more realistic all because we have learned and adapted 😇

I can’t stop imagining the ghost of the little girl who had this doll watching this, and being so so so happy.
This was the pride and joy of a little girl in the 1920s. And might have been the only one she had due to price. I can imagine her taking it everywhere and spending hours with her dolly. Beautiful restoration.
Omg... my mom has a doll similar to this..she was born in the 30s.. I found it in my grandpas attic and she was so happy she was in tears..its now in her China cabinet all dressed up...problem is....I'm certain that creepy doll is gonna get out and torture me...it scares the bejeezus out of me..lolol
I feel you my mom found some of my great grandmother's old dolls in my grandparents attic, they had real hair but had been chewed on by mice so they're also missing fingers and toes and they are SO terrifying, my mom insists on sitting them in a rocking chair in her living room so when you walk down the stairs of their house the dolls watch you
My great grandma had a doll similar to this and me and cousin was staying away from it lol
So this is what my great grandma played with when she was a little girl....
She looks so beautiful at the end! Amazing restoration

Love seeing things refurbished in general but especially when they are vintage. I love this video!
I love the care, details, gentleness that is used. It warms my heart.
Thank you for posting this video. You really seem to put love into this doll. Very relaxing and enjoyable.
He's so gentle with it! 🥺🥺🥺 I loved it!!
A lot of people find these types of dolls scary, but i love them! I have one from the 1920s and she's so cute! I know a lady who restores them for a living and she even has a class on it.
This is really beautiful. It makes me think of all our favorite things we‘ll leave behind when we pass on.
It‘s heart warming to see how some talented people care about preserving the past like giving a once loved but used doll, a second life.
She's sweet looking, not creepy. I blame Hollywood...

I got emotional when you started painting the eyebrows on, that's exactly how the workers in the doll factory would've done her face :'( You're honoring this historical doll so beautifully
Exactly what i wanted to see before bed...

Who ever the little girl was that once loved this doll so much, she's probably happy to see her beautiful doll look graceful again.
What a beautiful restoration. I love the effort you go to to keep to the original design. A lot of work goes into it but it looks very satisfying when you finally have the finished doll.
Even after being fixed it looks terrifying and scary
If y'all are so scared of it then why did you click?
I'm tired of seeing people saying it's scary. Stop saying that. It's rude to the man who probably enjoys doll making a lot.
I'm just scared of dolls in general, I have a phobia lmao.
Though, I can handle them - I like videos about repairing old stuff after all. Worth it.
I respect the work, I just wish a couple of things had been done differently.
1: Did it get a thorough cleaning (incl fabric body and voice box) and new stuffing as well? Fabric can be restored more than what was shown here, disappointed to see that ignored.
2: Not everything used here is archival quality or done with preservation as the priority. For example, when the head is dremeled open you can see that the original seam is followed imperfectly and the two pieces end up with broken bits that did not originally exist. Using heat and/or a solvent to soften the glue and the pieces would have been better, if possible. I was also unimpressed with the decal and paint used for the eyes. I disagree with his opinion that the discoloration was too advanced to leave alone. Even if it was, the dolls have cast eyes, not painted, which can be replicated much more accurately than was done here. The colour and placement of the blush, and the intensity of the colour overall was also inaccurate. It was actually not at all difficult to find multiple pictures of this doll and to see that the artistic choices don't match the original. Sanding, while necessary to remove the original sealant, can also be done even more gently than this.
Overall it's a beautiful piece of art and he's obviously incredibly talented, it's just not technically a restoration.
Hi! Thank you so much for these thoughts! There's a more in-depth edit of this process on my channel, feel free to check that one out and leave more comments, I always value feedback.

I love dolls. I've never owned an Expensive doll as the one you restored but I still love looking at them. You did a beautiful job. She's beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
I restore and make small OOAK (one of a kind) dolls and sculptures in my free time and ive watched this video about 10 times just seeing that people actually care about something me and several other people do
Amazing work, such incredible skill and craftsmanship. I am thinking though, that the age of the finished doll doesn't quite mesh with the fact it has a crier (cryer?) box. Isn't that more fitting for baby dolls? Either way, it's a remarkable job.
Thank you SO MUCH for such a shockingly-terrific restoration! What kind and color of paint did you use? THANKS

It’s fascinating to know that we could touch the history by holding this doll. I think it’s beautiful not scary as many people here saying.
You even did the clothing! Beautiful😊
He is such a great artist! The way he maps out the doll’s face from the remnants of its features reminds me so much of an archeologist.
How amazing, to see a doll being restored! I collect dolls, & I have a doll from the 1960s or early 1970s called Tippee Toes (by Mattel) that I got when I was a little girl, and her head broke off. Do you ever take on repair projects, because I would love to get her fixed. I also have some other dolls from about the same time period who need restoring. Please let me know if you are interesed. She was so sad when she came in but now she looks so beautiful and happy! Good job!
Wow that’s incredible! You truly have a gift, thank you for sharing!
I’m a doll collector and I collect these dolls! He did a good job! But at the same time he stripped a lot of the original charm of the doll, it isn’t necessary to strip everything and repaint but maybe cover up crazing with oil pastels or cracks and chips with miliput. Also the eyelash paint or eyebrows does not determine thing for sure since they’re are many variants of dolls. This is definitely good for an art project but obviously not original or done professionally. Overall good job!
Those doll eyes have seen some sh*t
I’m pretty sure they have
Amazing work. She looks like new one doll. Thanks.
