- This week Larry gets his hands on an interesting AK variant, The Yugo M70. This rifle has some pretty unique features for an AK variant, and finding one today in this near-perfect condition is extremely difficult. I love the sound of an AK running full auto! Just something about the rate of fire and sound it makes. This one running like a sowing machine! I've always liked the grenade launcher sights on these! Thanks for everything you do LAV! ✌️
@@KeterMalkuth Nope, that's the real sound. We've listened to the audience and changed how we record audio with new equipment and techniques. It took a lot of work to figure out and put together. The ultra-slow motion stuff (when you can see the projectile move) will still have to be dubbed, but all the real-time and a majority of the slow-motion footage will now feature the actual field recordings of the gun, just like this one. Because of our release schedule, there's a handful of "dubbed" videos waiting for release, but we'll only be producing videos with the real field recorded sound from here out.
@@VickersTacticalLAV Well that is pretty Awesome! I love your work and look forward to the new videos. That AK looks great, now I just need to know where to get one like that, it looks brand new!
@@VickersTacticalLAV That's awesome!
@@VickersTacticalLAV Awesome! It never really bothered me it was dubbed over. It was enough that most everyone got the idea...but that makes it even better and watching this video again...you can hear the difference. So whatever you are doing, it's working. Thanks again for going that extra mile.
@@VickersTacticalLAV Any chance of a video discussing the practicality of the Masterkey?
In High school in Vietnam, There is a class called National Defense Education. I remember we learned how to unscrew each part of a Ak 47 and reassemble them. It was interesting.
In ex Yugoslavia kids had so called pre military training in school. But only boys went to military service for one year after they reach at least 18 years of age.
Just interesting?! Bro I would've loved that class!!
@@grievouscontent assemble an ak is the only interesting part, the rest is either form rank or remember our history and propaganda.
damn I'm jealous
@@grievouscontent no you don't. You don't get to shoot it.
For a short while this was my issued rifle and later I switched to the under-folded M70AB2 during my stint with the Serbian border guard on the Serbo-Bulgarian border during mid '00s.The under-folded version was more popular among us serviceman than the fixed stock one!
After seeing lots of question on the internet regarding Yugo and later Serbian guns not having chrome lined barrels, the answer to that is very simple. Yugoslavia doesn't have natural deposits of Chrome so in the time of a war it wouldn't be smart to depend on some resource that you need to import.
Yugoslavian army recognized the drawback of not heaving chrome lined barrels so they drilled in us from the very first days of basic training that we should clean our rifles at least a couple times in a week, even if the rifle wasn't fired!
The reason why the majority of M70 are under-folded ones is in the doctrine of the former Yugo army, cause the majority of infantry was a mechanized one and under-folded rifle is much more practical to have while you are driven in BTR (APC).
@Charles Lindberg Yes. Almost all of guys in my regiment had the M70AB2.It was much easier to carry it then the M70AB1 especially in the mountainous terrain at the Serbo-Bulgarian border where I was stationed.
You are correct however the reason wasn't the lack of chrome deposits but lack of reliable technology back in time when Yu started with AK productions, later wasn't matter any more because as you mentioned a proper weapon cleaning was a big thing in yugo army.
Upravu si zašto je underfolder preferiran u službama, pozdrav

But why did they even bothered making M70s with full-sized stocks?
Had one in Yugoslav army back in the days. It's super reliable and with regular maintenance it will work in any condition. Also it looks better than original AK47.

I remember, I was maybe 5-6 years old. My father was a reserve forces. He brought home one of these. Took me into a room and turn the lights off. Showed me how the 3 dot sights are shining in the dark.
That’s cool. I wish I experienced that
I had this as my rifle when I was serving in the Cyprus National Guard in 1989....way cool...we traded it up for the HKG3...which in opinion was crap...full of plastic and at twice the weight it seemed....not what you want on long marches or at guard duty...the M70 was lighter and more suited as a soldiers tool...yes tool....take a licking and keep on ticking...miss it a lot
LAV puts on a damn nice full auto clinic at the end.
@Bozkurt postuna bürünmüş yobaz AraB devesi I guess he means, a show or 'teaching'. I just knew Larry was displaying superb control and handling of the full auto AK, that combined with whoever shoots and edits these, they got a super cool sequence in this.
CZ M70AB2 is the best AK-47 ever made! I was hiting men-size falling targets, every time, 300m away from the line of fire (prone stance), in mode of short-burst (2-3 shots)....Very, very accurate and durable in all conditions...Awesome weapon!!
I love the sound of a full auto ak...
Unless it's faked like it is on all these slow Mo videos
That's because you were never fired at with one , nor did you fired it on a human being . And the wounds of that 7,62 ..... it shatters tissue and bone like a mf. Hate to hear it but must watch for some seek reason
My Uncle had a M70AB2 for 4 years during the war in Bosnia. Never failed once. A little bit on the heavy side and older tech but reliable as it should be.
Have a video of me when I was 4 years old holding that rifle :D
I've had one for over 15 years. Keeps going. Good as new.
The story like i heard it,was : Underfolder was the standard because of it's planned use in Partizan warfare in the case of a Warsawpact or NATO invasion...The wood stock was handed out to Special Forces and/or Recon units so it could be used as an oar in small boat/raft type vehicles during amfibious operations in the river deltas (Sava,Morava,Moraça and the Danube).
Could be bullshit...but the dude who told me that, was a retired (subaltern)officer from the Yugoslav Naval Infantry so i have/had no reason to doubt him.
Back in the day we[as in half my family that was in the Yugo army] used Zastava's AK's,of course each different version was dependent on what the unit was issued for.
Wooden stocks were mostly issued to infantry in woodland or open areas, obviously because they didn't need it compact.
Underfolder was mostly given to paratroopers, urban infantries or certain groups.
But mostly everyone used the folding stock because of our..well nature. We were..Russians,on crack, least to say.
One thing why Zastava's AK's at that time were the best because they were made from extremely good materials in Bosnia.
They planned them for recon units to use as an Oar? Even for the Soviets, that sounds....Hard to believe. Shouldn't ever use your firearm in such a way,....that's just a general rule of thumb. I was 3rd Reconnaissance Bn. and 1st in my 8 years of the USMC....they never would have told us to use our rifles for such. There is to many other things that can be used in that case......just fuckin fin to shore for one thing.
@@Theseus9-cl7ol Well yes,Comparing USMC to our troops at that time isn't really logical. We did things differently, our way,our soldiers ran the folding AK's always folded, very rarely unfolded, especially from all the pictures my uncles and father have showed me.We're difficult people like i said.

Such a good looking rifle, with a hell off a sound.
You definitely see a difference in the slow-mo in a milled receiver. Less barrel flex.
I think its cos zastava have thicker reciever and thicker barrel
The NFA & Hughes amendment needs to be repealed as soon as possible
IMO i think that they should get together a bunch of professional Arms Sellers and Shooters, and determine weapon tiers. You should have a certain level of training to own a full auto rifle, handguns, shotguns, and everything inbetween and far beyond. That way if all you want is a weapon for self defense, the only training you need in a few day long day training to teach basic arms safety and weapons handling, but when you want a sporting rifle like an AR15 it might be training for like 2 or 3 weeks to learn about the rifle, and for the arms trainer to determine if you are a "good" or "stable" human being to prevent crazies from getting guns, and to allow Americans to own any weapons they want.
@@michaelscalese3142 IMO, you should be screened by free speech professionals in order to spread the bullshit you're talking.
@@michaelscalese3142 entirely hypothetical, what if my grandfather wants an m249 ?
@@michaelscalese3142 Not only violates the 2nd but this is also a violation to the 4th as well. I'm sorry but honestly piss off of this "must do objectives" before you can have a gun. Doing a safety course should be an option and OPTION only.
@@TrapperPingu Ah, so how does it violate the 4th, the police wouldnt be the ones conducting these, rather certified gun owners, so a private citizen. Anyways, its to not only bypass current gun laws, but to keep Americans safe, because we undoubtly home to the stupidest people in the world considering our education system. And you have to do that anyways to acquire full auto fire arms that were made past the 86 ban. And it doesnt violate the 2nd amendment because the people can still bear arms, all that changes is the fact that to own certain weapons, you need to be checked and trained to use them. If a person has zero gun knowledge they shouldnt be let around to use them. thats how cars work, thats how heavy machinery works, if I cant use a forklift without training why should I be able to go into a store, buy a handgun, and all that i need is to not have commited a crime.
The button on the left side is there to keep rifle from disassembling itself while firing grenades. Non chrome line barrels were used because it was cheaper to build it that way and also gives better accuracy (TFB TV used M70 for accuracy compassion against AR-15 and it was on par with it). Underfoldind stocks make rifles more compact for transport and CQB. Those are things that I was able to find about M70 (from Yugoslavian sources).
Like the East German, Poland, and Romania, Yugoslav’s Zastava M70 also the best AK variant.
I've shot East German, Polish and USSR made AKMs. Soviet seemed to be most comfortable to shoot. Accuracy was same and tolerable for all guns (from my benchrest shooters POV)
All are great, but Polish AKs barrells have some of the highest reliability. Approximately 9000 shots

Impacts on steel were so satysfying
Reason for a lot of underfolders was that underfolder was replacement for SMGs, while fixed stocks were replacement for M59/66 (SKS). At the time of before replacement, rifle section had 9 men,. 1 x LMG, 4 x M59/66 and 4 x M56 SMG, so a lot of underfolders found a way into infantry. Also all mechanized and parachute units had only underfolders.
No matter how many times I watch you shoot a rifle in slow motion, I'm still amazed at how much the barrels flex.
The barrel doesn't seem to flex as much as a regular AKM. It's really nice to see attention given to an iconic AK of the 80s and 90s.
Larry's experience with full autos is amazing. I'm sure that milled receiver helps with recoil mitigation
This appears to be a perfectly gassed AK. The full auto looks totally controllable. The Valmets and Galils don't look this controllable in 7.62x39.
Yea when I was watching the slow mo, I thought the same thing like "Wow that thing is incredibly well gassed!"
Also has to do with the weight. Milled yugos are pretty heavy
Just got my Zastava PAP G and this slow-motion really helped me understand where the brass cases got their dents from.
This is the exact rifle I was issue when I served in JNA in 1989. I was in a tank unit and most guys picked folding stock rifles because of tight space but I preferred fixed wooden stock. You are 100% correct about the rust. This rifle is just about fool proof, easy to use, but not very precise. Hitting anything over 50 meters (165 feet or 55 yards) is a challenge. Thank you for this review. Nice shooting! Subscribed.
damn, she's a beauty.
2:30 Non chromed barrel wasn't a real issue in yugoslav army because you clean that damm thing almost every day I had no clue that this thing is so reliable back in time because we must clean it , lick it on every possible occasion.
But you are correct that this thing rust fairly quick if you stood on the rain for a day you can see a rust coming.
I love AK's, AR's, and pretty much all normal assault rifles, so that makes the Sturmgewehr 44 my most favorite, just like Larry. That AK is beautiful and she really sings in full auto.

Up here in the Czech Republic these are very affordable AK variants and also well known for quality :) only the barrel should really have been chrome lined, what a shame they did not go for it. The ammo we shoot the most here is an old cheap surplus so you need to be really thorough when cleaning it.

After years following you, I'm still demanding how a left-handed, can shoot so well with right hand...It's really awesome.
Alot of my fellow Americans seek to arm up with an AR-15.....I always tell em, you should consider the AK-47 (or even better the AK-74 if you can get your hands on one). I'm a former USMC grunt, and have fired both plenty. The AR will give you better precision shots at a longer distance, but I love that AK. You can throw that sucker in the mud, pick it up and fire no problem. For close in combat, give me an AK. Plus 7.62...way more stopping power.
@ Theseus: The late Colonel David L. Hackworth, one of the nation's finest soldiers, and an acknowledged expert in counter-guerilla operations during his time in Vietnam, loved the AK-47 and hated the M-16. Your comment about throwing one in the mud, and then fishing it out and having it work, mirrored his demo he used to do for his troopers. He'd grab an AK laying on the ground after a battle or whatever, one left behind, and he'd test-fire it. Then, he'd bury in the dirt or mud. Later on, he'd dig it up, clear the barrel and action to make sure they weren't obstructed, and then he'd insert a fresh magazine, cock it and fire it. Hack talks about doing this in one of his books, perhaps his memoir, "About Face." Of course, in those days, the M-16 hadn't yet been sorted out completely - which probably colored his perceptions of the weapon.
The AR 15 / M 16 having any more trouble with mud is a pernicious myth. The AR 15 does need more cleaning and maintenance, but we know it works ( especially with proper chrome lining ).
m.czcams.com/video/LyXndCxn9K4/video.html
The AK's 7.62 × 39 mm bullet does have more stopping power at combat distances ( 1 - 300 meters ) too.
My family member was in Yugo wars and told me that enemy had some nato/west german rifles that hit like bee stings, you would see people getting hit with it but they wouldnt go down just run towards medic, stretcher but when they shot someone with 7.62 they would stumble or fall down on the spot, sometimes get up again or crawl but not very far and that would be it.

You ran it like a champ. Next to no muzzle climb in full auto. Badass
