Imp Guard dude was not happy near the end of the game. I found that reading the novels helped me overcome disappointing dice rolls as i did not care whether i won or lost, I more thought of the outcome as a narrative in a novel and I am just watching it in real time.
Dude didnt screen the Baneblade, it took out a third of its firepower with just 2 units of horrors.
i havent hit that part yet but just from the mission layout I feel like demons were getting a little too much benefit with the change to their faction rule just actively spreading across the board instead of having to control objectives like normal

Hey loved the video and narrative mission. Not sure if you knew or not but Baneblade can't overwatch (as it is a titanic unit) and Born soldiers doesn't work in overwatch as you don't have a movement phase and can't 'remain stationary'.
Yes to the first part and you’re right but for the wrong reasons for the second. The reason born soldiers doesn’t apply to overwatch what is the buff from remaining stationary only lasts until the end of turn

While you’re right in terms of crunch, I think because of the narrative style mission it can be ignored

8 and a half minutes in and already sultan is been a gem as usual, love my sultan and stylus battle reports and when your all together it makes for some of the most wonderfully entertaining ones (also great poem stylus)

8 minutes in and I'm fudging loving this. 1995 was a very good year, it's when I turned up.
This was a great game, great fun to watch and nice to see some different armies taking the field.
If there's one thing I took away from this battle report, it's to bring more Ogryns

This was certainly a game of two halves. Man/Abhuman of the Match is the Bodyguard Ogryn.

Remember the Baneblade has the titanic keyword and so can't use overwatch.
I've haven't watched a batrep in months, drifting away from hobby, enjoyed this on in the background whilst doing a little DIY, i could mostly follow what was going on (couldn't understand 9th) enjoyed the gentle banter

Man, I really hope they re-examine Greater Daemon stat profiles. It's a bit ridiculous that Keepers are base S6 and even LoC's are only S6 when their biceps are literally larger than a Space Marine's torso. But other than that, it sorta reinforces how much they struggle against armour. It's weird to me that we literally have Space Marine's running around in T6 armour nowadays when Bletters are still what, S5?
It feels like they basically just cut n pasted their stats from 9th to 10th without really thinking things through.
Good game though, pretty back and forth I thought.
I could see it having been a draw.
If the karskin had gone for the horrors at the baneblade, with some shooting and maybe a charge there is a very good chance they could have widdled them down so Guards would have hold that objective, and shooting the chariot off the middle one was very likely. Then they would have had one point each. At the very least it had been worth a shot to attempt it.

The comment you made about melta is exactly how I feel, there needs to be a change to the way they work to make them good again. Double strength in half range rather than the extra damage would work, since even the strongest melta weapons are only 24 inch range, they still need to be danger close to be fully effective. An anti-tank gun that wounds vehicles on a 5+ is silly. OR just give them anti-tank 3+ or something...

That Guard shooting was pretty much what Guard shooting usually is...disappointing.

Just started watching, sod cat videos, we have Winters videos! (that said, I did go down a rabbit hole of watching people flood their cars at rufford ford - its hard not to keep watching!). Really looking forward to this, a really great narrative idea on a great board. Just a note though, titanic units can no longer overwatch, and even if they could, "born soldiers" doesn't work in your opponent's turn as "remain stationary" is actually a type of move, believe it or not, and you don't move in your opponent's turn! Simple, not simplified right? More importantly, I hope Stylus doesn't make a living as a poet? :P
Sultan’s luck on that baneblade turn 1 was horrific.
Two gorgeous armies, especially the Guard. Need more Guard replays, they have such lovely models and interesting rules with the Orders.

Shame they lost, but then, it's a Warhammer 40k game. The shooty army takes off 10-30% of the melee army, then the melee army touches them and the ranged army evaporates. Got to love that a group of infantry can lock down a massive 480-point key setpiece unit and make it largely irrelevant for the entire game; better than it used to be, since it's still allowed to fire at a penalty, but still just a massive disparity in value.
Why does a Baneblade hit on a 5 up? I feel like most of the Giard army couldn’t deal reliable damage ‘cause they missed like 90%-95% of their shots.
..Are you watching the right video? it was not only locked up by two 130 horror units and a 75pts hero, hardly nothing but ALSO continued to fire the whole game shot at the whole open coverless board as the daemons had no hope of actually killing it and the only downside is -1 to hit which doesn't even matter when you're hoping for 6's to hit with the bullshit autowound which Guard (the shooting gunline who dont want to move) receive for the high price of uh....standing still. If this wasn't Narriative the daemons would just be fish in a barrel
I get it, I played Dawn of war but I'll never grasp Baneblade fanboys who always want more buffs for this specific tank, for once it's actually decent in 10th and you still cry
@@krilc I was kinda talking about the guard as a whole seemed to miss way more than I expected. Like when 1/3 of Sultans shooting units are needed to kill 3-6 plague-bearers, a Kasarkin squad kills like 2 plague-bearers are point blank with the standing still and first/second rank fire, or when the baneblade’s main gun gets 15 shots and gets 2 wounds. I don’t know shit about meta, I’m just commenting on what I saw watching this. What I saw was Sultan getting understandably upset that 5+ units worth of shooting couldn’t do jack shit to a basic unit

As a former daemon player, seeing how the daemons seem to play now really annoyed me. It doesn't seem like they have the "flavour" or bags of tricks that they used to and they seem even more nerfed than before. Is having a mono daemon army a viable option anymore? How long has Sultan played as daemons and what's his take on how they play these days?
Feel's a bit wrong though. I mean the Guard have lost as soon as they sight a demon, aren't they all going to be liquidated for harbouring forbidden knowledge.
Poor Sultant ... never roles well whenever i watch him fight. He continued to struggle to hit and wound effectively with endless 1s & 2s. Whatever did get through, was consistently saved by Styluses.
You cant win against that kind of luck ....

Yes, there was very low probability that they survived the 5th turn to the LoC but this would have been epic ^^

Sultan lost the will to fight with the persistand demon saves...
However if he had moved the Baneblade to the centre (rolling fortess cant be pinned) then the troops and the chimera could have oc wher it was and it would have oc the centre... a draw.
Yeah finally the GUARD!!!! But no scout sentinel ?!?! Scout sentinel is an absolut must for every artillery heavy set up!!!!
Scratch my earlier comment, Sultan’s luck throughout was terrible.
Sultan felt particularly salty this game, especially toward the latter half.

Why is the guard so bad? Having tanks hit on fours naturally is terrible. This is why I like to play Marines, chaos Marines, or any other faction that can be consistent with hitting. Hitting on anything above a 3 is so annoying.
Hitting on 4s is normal and average. Marines hit on 3s because they are elite. Guard hitting on 3s would be silly.
@@LichLordKrullYeah but the guard tanks spent most of the game hitting on fives and honestly if the guard could hit on threes it would make them much more viable to play given that marines can fight in melee and guard can’t
They're not bad. But you're meant to bring units to buff them plus a lot of their armour have heavy keyword. If they sit still and have take aim they're hitting on 2s and auto-wounding on 6s.
@@LichLordKrull what do the guard have going for them? They’re shooting is just OK, and there Maeleigh is very substandard. Hitting on fours across the entire army is not consistent. I understand that they have orders, but the orders aren’t really the strongest. The issue is, even if they get the take aim order, they will still be hitting on threes. Which, is good if they had stronger weapons. They’re still wounding on fives and or sixes, and the AP isn’t good. I would understand the hitting on fours base, if their weapons were stronger.
@@deleted4577 yes, but that implies they are under ideal conditions. Which is almost never happening in a game. It’s dumb that a Blanebade, one of the most destructive tanks the guard have access to, can be stopped by tiny pink mushrooms. They aren’t even doing damage to the tank.
