I believe those two dragons actually have a close bond with each other. One of the writers says that the high-pitched sounds Damon's Dragon made when cyrex appeared were a whimpering love song. I believe they were happy to see each other. Also side note the reason Damon's dragon has the high-pitched sound that it does is because of the mutation that gave it it's extraordinarily long neck it has a deviated septum and stretched out vocal cords

It was actually the sound coordinator. She creates the sound for the dragons. She said that
@@alexm7651 the books said- the relationship between a rider and his/her dragon is psychic. Did you notice how Caraxes reacted to see Otto and co opening their swords? Daemon didn't say anything to his dragon but the reaction đ just like the riders, dragons have feelings for each other. I mean, Daemon definitely has feelings for Rhaenyra and that feelings also affected his dragon too. That's why Caraxes reacted when he saw Syrax
It reminds me my pets when one of them come and try to find some way to join rest on gauch tbh.
One thing I miss about the bridge confrontation is, that while Daemon first stayed calm and polite, just asking if his brother is here (yes, he wants his brother's attention), Otto Hightower immediately started to insult Daemon and his mistress as rude as possible.
I think that Otto - while he wanted of course survive the confrontation - wanted to anger Daemon and escalate the situation, so that the mission to retrieve the egg fails and the wedge he drives between the king and his brother would get bigger.

He did a similar thing back at the council table too by mentioning Daemon's wife
When she said, "Iâm right here, uncle. The object of your ire, the reason you were disinherited. If you wish to be restored as an heir, you need to kill me. So do it. And be done with all this bother!"
It kinda warms my heart like she knows that he got a soft spot for her, that he won't hurt her regardless of what we all expect about their relationship.
yes that's true there is a trust between them. And he gives her the egg as well.
And I think that her uncle softens because he realizes she trusts him too, he really just wants to be valued and lived by his family the most
You can also see in his face that he might even be slightly proud of her for being so bold. I think it ultimately just strengthens the affection he feels for her.
Rhaenyra is my favorite so far. She's so confident and collected for her age but, naive enough to have character development.

I think the writers are also trying to make us love her, just like they did with Dany.

Daemon's whole attitude this episode can best be summed up as provoking his brother into a confrontation. Everything he does is trying to get Viserys to come to Daemon on Daemon's terms. I feel like if the two brothers actually talked face to face, they might actually make some small steps to resolve their issues, but both of them trying to fit the regal appearance of their roles are thus incapable of doing so, Viserys won't give Daemon the time of day which just pushes Daemon to do more outlandish things to get his brother to come to him. It's sad in a way, as not only are these brothers at an avoidable impasse, but you have someone like Otto intentionally undermining it further.
One thing that I noticed upon rewatching this scene happened near the very end of Daemon and Rhaenyra's standoff: her mask starts to drop a little. Prior to this she comes off as confident, arrogant even, while calling out Daemon on his bluff, saying he could kill her if he so wishes, gambling that he won't. In the silence that follows, Daemon takes a moment, not to consider killing his niece but (IMO) to admire the play she has pulled, taking long enough time that Rhaenyra's confidence starts to fade, revealing an uncertain teenager; at 7:55 she starts blinking rapidly and her mouth opens slightly to allow for more oxygen, meaning she is stressed, no longer sure of her plan - maybe she has underestimated her uncle? I believe he sees this, respecting her even more for willingly putting herself in Check despite the risk, something we later discover Daemon himself has a knack for. This is what ultimately makes him decide to give Rhaenyra the egg; his affinity with her trumps his dislike for his brother.
Love this! To your point of Rhaenyra understanding Daemon beyond the uncontrollable monster that many others (mainly Otto) paint him as, I think they are expertly contrasting that with Viserys' continued misunderstanding of Daemon. Viserys initially seems to understand that Daemon is just lashing out and is ready to go off to confront him until Otto says that Daemon is "...without limit," basically implying that Daemon might kill Viserys -- and Viserys listens to him. Rhaenyra, in contrast, understands that not only is he just hurt and wanting attention, but also sees the truth of the matter: that regardless of his dramatic displays of resentment, he wouldn't hurt Rhaenyra or Viserys. And Viserys clearly has internalized this idea he has of Daemon when, even after Rhaenyra solved the standoff in about 30 seconds, still thinks that "[She] could have been killed!"
With that bit of dialogue from Daemon in the closing scene, where he reprimands Corlys and basically says "I can insult my brother all I want, but you absolutely better not", I think its clear that in the end Rhaenyra is right about him and Viserys (influenced by Otto) are very wrong.

Even Daemon pointed out that Viserys put too much faith in Otto and that Otto is just as much power hungry like anybody else.
Another fabulous breakdown! Daemon and Rhaenyraâs relationship is probably one of the most complex and enticing of the show! Rhaenyra really took the initiative this episode, I wish Viserys showed even a fraction of that initiative.

I particularily liked the ending of that scene with that troubled look on Ottos face as he watches her fly in the distance. These two are set up as major antagonists but at this point Otto thinks he has everything going for him with the power over the realm within his reach through his daughters marriage. He didn't anticipate that Rhaenyra will press her claim or pose any threat but he may have doubts now.
Rhaenyra is such a great character! I hate that I know how the Dance of Dragons ends. I'll always be #TeamBlack.
I'm looking forward to see the feast with green/black factions. That's when shit goes down.

@@novaowera9995 He's "changing the story" by laying down the facts in the show as opposed to the uncertainty that the Fire & Blood book presented, where none of the sources were wholly reliable. The fact of the matter is that all the sources - even the ones that weren't anti-Rhaenyra - end her story in the same manner. As Otto Hightower put it: _the road ahead is uncertain, but the end is clear._
I think a detail ppl miss abt Deamon and Rhaenyras relationship is she struggles to communicate with her father. However Daemon and her are comfortable and open with each other. To me that says in some ways she closer with him. Or at least views him as a big brother. He was ready to massacre Otto and the lads, but she shows up and scolds him. Fathers and big brothers know what itâs like to be cowed by a daughter or younger sister. He couldnât hurt her if he wanted to and she knows that lol.

Interesting how Otto Hightower every time someone discusses something with the king, always feels the need to point out that person is talking to the king.
Rhaenyra and Daemon are definitely my favourites in this show đ

To everyone thinking that Daemon is provoking his brother are wrong. He is doing everything he can to save his family and keep it safe. He asked where his brother was and Otto said he wasnât there. He knows Ottos intentions were not good and was ready to kill Otto and all his men to protect his brother. Luckily his niece showed up to keep him from doing it. He didnât want any conflict with his family only the people who harm his family. Like he said to Corllis in a later scene, you will not say anything about my brother only I can. I think Damon isnât a bad person he will do anything even if it makes him look bad to help his family and his weak brother.
I think this shows how good the acting is from these two. That they are conveying things so realistically in their interactions.
Rhaenyra is already Daenerys-tier levels of badass. And I'm already hating Otto Hightower more than I hated any character on GoT.

nerdsoup said that the dragon emerging from the clouds was visually reminiscent of a whale jumping out from the ocean... a really beautiful scene. and a commenter on another channel noticed how matt smith chose to clutch the egg as rhaenyra dismounts her dragon... i thought the actor playing rhaenyra is so laid back that she doesnt really stand out in the scenes, but her character really does assert herself into the story more than the other targaryens.
it almost makes her like the person who is too cool to care. but she stlll gets stuff done.
i think its going to be tough to jump from milly alcock playing young rhaenyra to emma d'arcy playing older rhaenyra. but this is probably the thing that i look forward to the most. milly alcock is so good portraying this version of the character. how will it change with emma d'arcy?
To me , at least, I think Rhaenyra figured out everything at the council meeting when she found out who stole the egg. She is the one who has enough snap to ask which egg. That causes the King to go to action , but by then she has figured out how to trump Daemon. She is two steps ahead of everyone , she of course is not going to tell her father she is going to Dragonstone. Then Viserys realizes what has happened and can't say explicitly that Rhaenyra has snookered everyone.

Actually, Rhaenys is factually correct. What mistakes did Rhaenys make? She was passed over. That's not on her.

Rhaenyra and Syrax already have a close relationship with Daemon and Caraxes. I believe it was GRRM, or possibly Ryan Condel, who said that Caraxes sings love songs to Syrax. So, I see that flyby adore of a greeting to Caraxes than a statement or assertion of strength toward Daemon or Caraxes. It was more of a show of strenght and intimidation toward Otto and his men. I don't think she needs to make exhibitions of strength for Daemon; if there are only two people in the world Daemon truly loves, admires, and respects its Rhaenyra and Viserys. He's just insecure and desperate for them to feel the same for him, so he acts out.
I can relate.
For now at least I am really liking Rhaenyra and she really is showing a lot of promise. Like her father, her overall view of her family legacy seems to be one of the most mature and balanced ones we have heard from any member of House Targaryean. Like Visery, she seems to be one of the very few people who can see through Daemon's actions and see that the comparisons between him and Maegor the Cruel are grossly inaccurate. Do not got me wrong Daemon has his flaws but I would rather be trapped in a room with a dozen Daemons than be within one mile of a single Maegor the Cruel. And like her father she does seem to genuinely want what is best for the realm (granted Viserys is very flawed in how he approaches it but still my point stands).
Unlike Viserys, she is much more willing and able to assert herself and to take command of a situation. This scene on the bridge is a perfect example as she was able to stand between two men who hate each other very much and would love nothing more than to kill each other, and she was able to shut them both down with nothing but words and pure unadulterated confidence.
I guess I am saying that for now at least she has the best qualities of both her father and her uncle but not their drawbacks. How long this lasts...that is a good question.
I believe Viserys and Daemon still care about each other. But they never found time to speak and come to a reconciliation. And it will be too late once Aegon II is born.
You can tell that the dragons aren't antagonistic to each other as well. They kind of chirp at each other in greeting, but they don't act as aggressive towards each other as Daemon's dragon did towards Otto. I think Rhaenyra knows that he won't hurt her and the dragons know it too. I love that look that Otto gives her at the end, though. It's a look that says he realizes that he's underestimated her.
"Look what I did before, this isn't going to defeat me." This is so true.
I also always point out the significance of Daemon choosing not to lie to Rhaenyra about the child whereas he let everyone else believe he was having a child.

Otto and maesters are in cahoots to overthrow the Targs. House Hightowers were a wealthy family before Aegon's Conquest. Daemon is trying to get attention so he can finally have a convo with his brother.
But as we saw, Otto told Viserys to stay where he was because he knows if the two brothers find a resolution, Daemon will be back at KL and will make life a living hell for Otto. This is why Otto proposed Rhaenyra to be Viserys' next heir. Only to remove Daemon out of there.
Even Rhaenyra is aware of this and told Daemon. She knows her case to the throne is weak being she's a woman if her father eventually has a son which he will. Rhaenys, as bitter as she is, is already warning Rhaenyra this.
Otto is a wicked dude. He played it well. He knows Daemon was always the biggest threat to the throne. Viserys is a sucker. I bet the maesters had something to do with Aemma and Baelon's deaths. Then his Trojan horse / CCTV cam on the king became his daughter.
I do understand where Otto's coming from. If your family aren't dragon lords, that's scary. Dragons are essentially war planes. And the Targs did invade Westeros during the Conquest.
Good to see some people paying attention. đ 90% of the internet doesn't seem to understand why Otto was on the bridge.

The actual story from the books is far more interesting.
In this show, they keep painting it like during The Great Council it was a choice between Rhaenys and Viserys, a man vs a woman, and they chose the man. But that isn't what happened really.
In the source material, Rhaenys' father was the king's heir. By custom, when the king died, her father would've been the next king, and then on his death his heir would have taken over but she was his only child and thus his heir.
But then, her father died... The king then had to choose whether to name her as his new heir, which would've followed the custom of the heir of the heir becoming the new heir OR if he would instead choose her father's brother, another of the king's sons, as the new heir. The king ultimately decided that a woman would not sit on the iron throne, and appointed his other son as his new heir. Hence, Princess Rhaenys was passed over and slighted because she was a woman.
This pissed off the Baratheons, the Velaryons, and the king's own wife. The Queen used to dote on Princess Rhaenys and call her "Our Queen To Be" because she was expected to succeed her father, the eldest son of the current king, and become a ruling queen. After she was passed over, she picked up the moniker "The Queen Who Never Was".
2 years later, Rhaenys had a son. And again, by the laws of succession, her since Laenor Velaryon would've had a better claim to the Iron Throne (by custom) than the current heir, a younger son of the king. But again, the King refused to change the succession and this pissed everybody off again and Rhaenys felt passed over a second time.
Then, the king's new heir also died... The king was now out of sons and the question of succession came up AGAIN.
Since the issue of succession came up again, Lord Corlys Velaryon started raising his forces for war to take the iron throne for his son while Prince Daemon was raising forces to do the same. This imminent threat of civil war is what forced the king to call The Great Council in the first place to decide who the heir would be. Either his great-grandson from his eldest son's line OR his grandson from his other son's line. Rhaenys was never even seriously considered at the great council. Her and Coryls Velaryon were at the council supporting their son Laenor to take the crown. They had already given up any hope of a woman ruling as queen.
But despite Corlys bribing and threatening and persuading as many lords as he could, everyone voted for the grandson of the other son (Who was Viserys) rather than the great-grandson of the eldest son (Who was Laenor Velaryon). There were a lot of reasons why he looked like the better choice. For one thing, Viserys was a Targaryen while Laenor was a Velaryon. For another, Viserys was a man at like 25ish year olds and Laenor was like 6 years old. Another was Viserys rode the dragon Balerion the Dread, the mount of Aegon the Conqueror. Another was the fact Viserys also had a brother Daemon, so basically two male heirs already adults and ready to go while the Velaryon line only had a 6 year old boy heir and didn't even have the right name.
Basically if Laenor became king, and then died before having his own kids, Succession would've become a problem once again because there were only women left on that side of the family and custom had already dictated women couldn't rule. So everyone voted for Viserys.
So Rhaenys was basically raised believing she'd one day be queen, then her father dies and she is passed over, then she has a son and he is also passed over, then a great council is called when the new heir dies and her son is passed over AGAIN. Rhaenys had to have been mad as hell about all that. And then for Viserys, the man who benefited from the "women can't rule" custom and following it is the only reason he became king in the first place is now wanting to throw that tradition to the wind and name his daughter as heir had to have infuriated Rhaenys and made her feel slighted all over again.
Then when you couple how Rhaenyra acted most of your young life and how she never took responsibility or cared much for duty and all that, basically flaunted her privilege and bemoaned being made to do anything she didn't want to do, then Rhaenys was forced to back her and side with her and support her? That had to have sucked. Rhaenyra represented everything Rhaenys felt she deserved while simultaneously feeling like Rhaenyra didn't even want or appreciate it and just screwed off all the time.
I would absolutely love to see an analysis of the later scenes with adult Rhaenyra-as well as Viserysâs arguable best moment, the throne walk!
I love this analysis! If only Targaryens had a therapist, the dance would not happen and Robert's rebellion will fail. And the white walkers will not dare cross the Wall.

Personally I think people are misreading the bridge showdown and the relationship with Rhaenyra. Of course most people do not know the next steps what are going to happen. As an initial read I think you like always are right on it but in hindsight I think what you see in these scenes changes your perspective on what is going on. This is the War of the Roses on steroids and it will be interesting when we get past the time jumps and we understand the battlelines.

I recently got into your channel on Nebula and they've given me a lot to think about when coming up with the relationship dynamics of my own characters. Ha ha, your dragon has grown up very quick since the last vid! đ It's been a while since I saw you enjoy a show this much. It's so funny to see where you break the character, one second calm "professional" voiced therapist, one hand lifted up to explain something, and the next second you're throwing hands up into the air, eyes gleaming with joy and shouting "YESS I LOVE THIS SCENE" lol. It's just much more genuine than any other people doing reaction/analysis videos while still being much more informative.
The way she left them was so funny, she came, sorted out the problem, just gave them a glance, then hopped on to the dragon and flew off into the distance like "you can walk back, peasants". It was like your mom coming to find the stuff you've been looking for hours and she finds it right away and gives a glance like "are you blind, it was just right there" and leaves. Same vibe lmao. Also I'm excited to see more about Daemon, he is George Martin's favourite Targaryen.

Alicent and Rhaenyra. Something about them, and doubly so when they were hanging out at the shrine together. They morph in my minds eye and I see them as the 60ish year olds they could become. Couple of old souls. The scenes with Rhaenyra and her uncle are great. Love the dragon whispering in your ear.

Yes I have and it bothers me a lot as I feel the disconnect and it takes me out of the show or film. It is one of those situations which i find very frustrating.

Where did you get that stuffed dragon, I used to have the same one as a kid and I took him to the hospital with me all the time and he would gaurd me, I lost him over the years. I would love to know where you got it, so I can buy one just like it.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but then Rhaenyra does a series of blinks towards the end at Daemon before he caves is this some subtle flirting or affection she has for her uncle? You said Daemon's were a sign of respect so I just mirroring each other out of mutual respect or is there something deeper going on?
Targaryen's
She has a thing for Daemon. It's visible in subtle cuts to her face when Daemon competes/talks in Episode 1. Anyone who has read the book, probably knows this is true.
Great analysis of this character, Rhaenyrs was feeling very bitter to see her young cousin get so close to the crown.
Then to be in a position of offering up your young daughter to the sitting king who took her spot. đ€Źđ€Ź
I think Daemon respects people who can dish just as much as he can. He respects strong people, especially women
I don't think rhaenys was trying to be insidious in that scene. Sure there are sour grapes but I don't think she literally wants rhaenerya to fail. She's just giving her a heads up on what may come.
Mmmm... She used her status as princess, in fact, it's tacit in that context because without the king around, Otto has not the authority over Rhaenyra to dismiss her.

I understand escalation because I watched A CHRISTMAS STORY = ) Escalation means that after a triple-dog-dare...somebody's tongue gets stuck on cold metal. Sorry I was slow to respond to this, Georgia...but I was being a good boy and helping someone move...in 34 degree heat...up five flights of stairs. Many times.Then I jogged/walked 5 km back after. To be greeted by a GEORGIA video! EXCELLENT reward! I think Rhaenyra? (Hope I spelled it right) handled it impressively admirably, but you are right: She should have taken the egg back to her father herself. I saw the emotion before you admitted to it. Anybody who was dismissive of you is fundamentally not very bright and has things to learn.

No - I believe Drogon's and the other 2 eggs were already stolen and in the Essos by this time period.
Damon is not a monster to his family he truly loves his brother and his niece heck he's going to marry her. Also you have to keep in mind Targaryen dragons reflect their writers Damon's dragon is a cannibal. He eats his own kind a sign of what's to come during the dance of dragons. Damon was the most brutal targaryens so brutal in fact that his name. Becomes a curse but he does love his family.
The next spinoff should focus on giant dragon poop and the peasants that has to scoop them
While I am not neccessarily a fan of GoT or seeing much point in this series, one thing that cannot be denied is, that the acting and production value on both are stellar! :-O Oh and love the video Georgia, as always. :-)

I'm afraid her aunt is kind of right though and the only thing she will accomplish is burning everything down because that's just how George R.R. Martin tends to write powerful women characters.
Being more than a tad disappointed with the last couple season of GoT, I was set on dismissing this show. Bitterness and spite on my part. Maybe I should open my mind and maybe even my cold black heart a bit and give it a shot. Besides, it's not exactly fun being a grumpy ol' fud. :-)
