  • I have had a few requests to do some more step by step how-to videos so here is one I filmed while installing a new headlamp in my 1950 Lionel #2035. I gave it a good cleaning too so it is kind of a longer video. Hope you find some of this information helpful! Please leave a comment if you have any other thoughts on cleaning these old locomotives.

Another tip is to take a pic of each side of the loco showing the alignment of the drivers and all the sliding bits before you dissemble, so that you won't have any binding when you put it all back together.

That's a great idea. I didn't really have a binding issue because I knew where I wanted the drivers to be in relationship to the eccentric prank. But that is catches everybody up. You've got a 50/50!

Your soldering iron tip may be dirty/untinned or just not hot enough. It looks like the wire connection is a very "cold joint" those tend to fail
    Thanks for showing the procedure.

It probably needs cleaned but the soldering iron is very old and I bet it's not getting hot. I'm using this as an excuse to acquire as well. Lol!

Plastic floss pick is better because it doesn't scratch the surface

I got to know where did you pick up the WD40 contact cleaner I didn’t even know they made that I always have to just use both sprays

Oh gosh. I've probably had that can for years. Just grabbed it at Home Depot. No wait. I think that was an Amazon purchase.
