I'll probably feel this way on all their opening reaction videos, but I still shamelessly love the US openings! I'll admit that they aren't usually very nuanced lyric-wise as the others but they have such a fun and rockin' melody. They're especially something intended to immediately catch kid's attention when flipping through channels.

Plus, the late '90s and early '00s. I'm so not sure why that particular aesthetic was so popular for us when we were kids - part of it was the funky/rockin' music, another part was the *WOWAWESOMECOOL* factor of any animation that came with it. For kids, there were lots of bright, in-your-face primary colors and eventually neon-highlighter colors smacked onto anything back then, so that was attractive too. Somehow they made music that was able to capture that "primary color" feel lmao

When Dragonball was aired on Philippine TV (the one where Goku was a kid), the opening was actually in English. It goes something like
Get those Dragonballs! Seven Magic Balls!
To make a wish, you must possess them all~
It's the greatest treasure you'll ever find!
Go ahead... enter a world... of adventure!
The melody is the same as the Japanese one.
The ending theme, too, is in English and it was amazing :)

Butterfly는 한국어 가사 버전도 극장판에서 공개되긴 했는데 일본어 가사 뜻이 어른이 된 지금 (애들일때는 가사뜻을 들어도 제대로 이해를 못하니) 들으면 확실히 더 좋음 번역판보다.
세일러문 오프닝은 진짜 원곡 멜로디 자체가 너무 분위기에 잘맞게 만들어짐.
세일러문 오프닝은 국내판이 좀 더 잘 어울린다고 생각하는데 미국판도 좀 특이하네

한국애니제목이라던가 게임같은거 일본에서 끌어오는거라 발음차이의 이유는 다른 외국 보다는 그냥 일본따라가는게 많아서 그래요. 대표적으로 영상에있는 드래곤볼Z라던가 포켓몬에 에스퍼(영미권은 '사이킥'이라는 단어가 따로있고 에스퍼라는 단어가없어요)타입 같은경우가 있습니다.

Lol.. In the Philippines, the intro is usually the same with the Japanese version or they would translate the lyrics to tagalog but would keep the melody. This is also why I don't watch english dubbed versions of an anime. The intros are so different plus the way it is dubbed sometimes makes the emotion lost. I think the only one I watched that was dubbed in English was Samurai X 😊

@Gabriel Most English dub openings have very bad lyrics, but that's what makes them charming (in a way). Do you know the Yu-Gi-Oh one? It's literally just the name on repeat, "Your move" on repeat and "It's time to D-d-d-d-d-d-duel". We make fun of it, but there's no doubt we'll jam to it if we hear it.

When you never knew about the original songs, these dub songs were great. Rock the dragon fit dragonball Z perfectly, digimon was techno in reference to technology, sailor moons song was describing her character and what the show was about. Mad props to the American songwriters that came up with those unique ideas. Poke'mon song was just a stroke of genius.

Got to be honest, I grew up with the Latin America openings but they mostly followed the Japanese rhythm and sometimes even lyrics. When I moved to the United States I was so shaken, like now I’m used to their openings in English but it felt weird, and once I got older I saw the Japanese versions and I was like wow I didn’t missed much but I still like their version better. Now that I’m hearing the korean versions of the animes wow they’re so moving and cool.

I think one of the main reasons that the American versions had more of a cool or rock’n roll style was because most of the American cartoons at the time had that style to their intros. I think they were trying to make the intros similar to other popular cartoons. It’s all about trying to emulate success and not taking a risk on a new style. I actually like Pokémon, Sailor Moon, Yugioh in US style. It’s fun. 😄
