How To: Swap Your Instrument Cluster on a 2013-2014 Mustang

- This video will walk you through how to swap your base instrument cluster for either a Premium, Boss 302, or GT500 model in your 2013-2014 Mustang.
This procedure can also be carried out on a 2011-2012 Mustang, however, there are additional wires that need to be spliced into the instrument cluster harness and ran to your steering wheel buttons.
You will need:
7MM socket
6-8" socket extension
Rachet
ELM327 Cable
Forscan & Extended Forscan License

Just swapped out the dash in my base 13 for a premium one! I sold my 2014 Premium and missed the digital dash in the middle something fierce. This was the absolute best and most detailed video on how to swap it out! Thank you for the walkthrough!
This video gave me the confidence to finally swap my 2014 GT base cluster with a Premium. For a long time, I was hesitant to start the process and acquire a used cluster and the steering wheel switch. I did not want to deal with any Ford dealers in the Bay Area if something went wrong. I purchased the Forscan premium license, an OBDLink EX cable, and got the software running on Windows 11 Pro. Your video instructions made the actual swap quite easy to follow, and the PATS programming worked exactly as you showed. Thanks again for inspiring me to do the coolest mod yet on my GT manual Mustang!

I bought a 2013 mustang gt base and switched to the premium cluster just for the hell of it. It's SO much nicer with the LCD screen and my color.

@@EastonS550 It's been several years ago now. It was from an autoparts website. I had to send in the core and they even adjusted the Odometer for me. If I can recall the website I will post it.

Hi, I really like your video about upgrade the cluster of s197 mustang. Recently I was trying help my friend to swap a premium cluster to his 2013 base v6. His car even doesn't have mycolor option with the stock cluster. Now the problem is after I finished the pats relearn, the car can start and new cluster works. Well I'm going to check the as built data, I know the new abs data can activate trackapps. But if I want to activate my color, do I need to pmi the bcm? Or I just need to change the IPC data？
You would have to do more in-depth research, but I believe it's just the as-built data.
Can you program 3 keys ?
Thank you for this video! It has been tremendously helpful. I have successfully installed the cluster and am trying to use FORScan to program the new cluster and keys. When I connect I receive various “unable to connect DTC” errors. I installed the driver for my ELM adapter and paid for the FORScan extended license. Any ideas on how to get past this issue? TIA! 🙌
You can disregard this comment / question. It seemed to be an issue with the ELM327 device or deceivers. After several attempts to uninstall / reinstall the USB drivers and a few reports of my Windows PC, I was able to get it to work. Definitely recommend the swap to anyone that comes across it. If I can do it anyone can!

Can you program the mileage?
Just swapped a 2011 5.0 into my 2014 3.7. I swapped the ecu, cluster ignition. The whole nine yards.. this PATS has got me stuck, I used forscan to program my keys but it will not allow module initialization it will load to 84% and then fail. Any pointers
Let me know if you got this figured out. I did a swap on my 2013 v6 automatic convertible my doner car was a 2014 5.0 6 speed coupe my security light is going crazy. I used same bcm same steering column and key, but switched dash harness to a navigation with navigation harness. Key won't crank.

I don't know for a fact, but I assume it's probably not that much different. You would have to do some Googling.

Sure can. The steps should be the same as the video.

What is the parts number for the cluster you used? You didn't list it on the video and I need the parts number so I can order this cluster
The part number for the Boss cluster is DR3Z-10849-CA. However, you will be charged for a core if you buy from Ford. Additionally, you'll have to pay a 3rd party to adjust the mileage on it. You'd be better off trying to source a cluster used.
One question can I use the old key I had from my Mustang and a new one.
As long as you have two keys to program, it shouldn't be a problem. But you *have* to have two keys.
Not sure if you’re still monitoring this but I have a question. If I decide to buy one of these after my car has been heavily modified and tuned. Do you know if I will have to get a retune for this? Not sure how this all works. Also one more question, are they manual/auto specific? As in if I have a manual, should I look for a cluster that is pulled from a manual? Thanks.
An aftermarket tune should have no bearing on this modification. I myself am Lund tuned and installed this well after being heavily modified. And no, there is no difference between auto/manual clusters.

Wish someone would show in detail how to wire the steering wheel switch in a premium 2011 . Like take a steering colume apart and rewire from the dash switch to the clock spring harness. Plus I went to my local Ford stealership for help they say it cannot be done and as we know they don't want to be bothered. I live in Maryland and there are no help for me here. I bought 2 clusters and they are sitting in my Garage for 3 yrs.

I have the same issue i have bought 2013 cluster and install it and program it . And i bought new steering wheel buttons. The cluster worked but the buttons didn’t work

Do the keys need to be programed keys or can they be just the key no fob?

Hey I got a 2014 mustang v6 3.7 . Recently I replace the radio and the odometer simply switched from miles to kilometer. I tried all settings and it it never returned. Took to ford dealership they declined to “interfere”… I just went on eBay and got one cluster already set to my current mileage. Do you advise I go ahead with the same thing you did or there’s a different way of solving my issue? If I do as you did . Should I replace the navigation steering buttons too?

Your video was very helpful. Users make sure you get the license for the extended version of the software before trying this. The question I have for you, is there a way to program the select shift indicators into the cluster or did I buy a manual cluster that does not have that option in the cluster for programming? The S and gear number are supposed to come up to the right of the odometer, but mine does not after the swap. My car is a 2014 5.0 automatic with select shift. Thanks in advance!
I don't believe there is a such thing as manual/automatic cluster. The only difference *should* be the "As Built" programming, which you should be able to edit in Forscan. What I don't know, however, are what fields to edit and what to edit them to. You may have to do some Googling.

when I made the change The buttons on the left do not work for me I installed them after programming the cluster this could be a problem?
What year is your car? If it's an 11-12 you'll need to do additional wiring. I am not intimately familiar with the 11/12 swaps, so you'll have to do some research online.

@@Hardwaretuned No issues with the tune after swapping the cluster. The person who sold me the cluster adjusted the mileage to match the mileage on my old cluster.

Nope, you can use existing keys. Nothing get's programmed to the keys. The keys get programmed to the cluster.
Thanks for the video! After completing, the fuel guage read zero and I got a fuel sensor problem DTC.
Went back to my stock cluster and everything is fine.
Any ideas?
I can't give you a good answer on that. My only experience with Forscan is mostly what you see in this video.
@@whitezombiegt2181 I should have updated this comment. I finally succeeded. I used this video to go back to the stock cluster and buttons, then I used forscan to check for and clear all trouble codes. Something freaked out when I added the new buttons the first time and set a few codes (non MIL codes so I didn't know. I just decided to check for codes on a whim). Once all DTCs were cleared it worked perfectly.
Hopefully my experience will help someone else out. Thanks for the video man!

@@Hardwaretuned The seller I bought from programmed it for me. There are also companies who can reprogram your mileage for you for ~$100.
does anyone know how the process will work on a 2010 base as to getting the wheel buttons to work?
I don't believe this can be done on the 2010 cars. I believe the earliest year you can do this on is the 2011.

Everything working fine but 2010 has no ok button so i have tpms sensor button and there is no ok button so i am kinda stuck on that screen rest is working great

Unfortunately no. Windows is the way to go.
I have a cluster to swap that has miles a little over mine. If I program the new cluster can I swap back to my original to use until the miles match then put in the new one without having to program it again?
You should be able to swap between clusters in that case. You can also pay about $80 to have the mileage corrected at a legitimate electronics repair business. Google "odometer correction".
@@whitezombiegt2181 Normally I would have it corrected to match but it's only 134 mile difference. So I thought if it could be done I would just program the cluster and then leave it in my car to swap out with the original one once the miles matched.

Will A custom tune get messed up doing this?
I am Lund tuned and didn't have any issues. I know one CZcamsr had issues, but I have no idea what that issue was. I even opened a support ticket with Lund and they confirmed with me that a cluster swap would have no effect.

Will this work to swap 2013 gauges into a 2011?
Yes, however, the 2011 cars need an extra wire ran into the steering wheel for the new steering wheel switch. You will have to research that tutorial. But the rest of the video applies.

will this cluster only work with the 13-14 or will it work with the 11-12 model as well?
will work with 11-12, you can wither control with info reset buttons but it wont have an OK button, or you can splice in the oem cruise control buttons from 13-14 both ways it works

I believe it should just be the IPC.
