- Happy 75th birthday Mattel! I'm deboxing and reviewing Mattel 75th Anniversary Barbie doll who is a reproduction of the original 1959 Debut Barbie doll.
It's the first time a Debut reproduction doll has been created in Silkstone and I LOVE her! Created by designer Bill Greening, this doll feels solid, heavy, expensive, and precious. I love 1959 repro dolls and have a whole army of them but this doll looks extra special compared to the rest. She even has the original two prong doll stand which has never been created in Silkstone before. I highly recommend her if you're a true Barbie fan. She'll be so fun to redress in vintage inspired Barbie clothing. A wonderful way to celebrate Mattel's 75th birthday considering that Barbie started it all for Mattel.

Another wonderful video of the unboxing of this gorgeous doll. I have just purchased this doll from Myer I was so excited I rarely see collectible dolls in store any more. I already have the RePro version but I could tell just by weight of box this was a quality make. Thank you for making such inspiring videos, I am living in Australia and had a disappointing online purchase experience and this makes me cautious online purchasing, but am loving your videos. :)

She's got the original face mold from 1959. They made that for only the first year. The tell is her geeeorgous eye color. Love love love her!
I just unboxed this doll and you are right she is precious and amazing. If only Mattel could infuse the crayon smell into her she would be absolutely perfect! =)

Thanks for the review and the comparisons - I just ordered her - finally!!! I am an OG collector - lol - my first Barbie was a bubblecut in 1963 and I was so bitter because I wanted a ponytail doll - ha! The reproductions are the only modern dolls I buy, so I am thrilled with this chance to own a nice repro of the #1 in silkstone so she will have more heft to her like the original. Her ponytail flip goes the wrong direction, but I'm not mad about it - looks cute from the front. Can't wait to hold her in my hand! :)

I love your 61. She is in really good condition. I love this 75th Anniversary doll to. So glad they made her before dropping the BFML. Wish I had selected the AA for my convention doll. She is simply gorgeous!

OMG!! She is so beautiful and looks just like a #1 Barbie from her beautiful white-blue eyes to the cute little red dots in her nose! Only the original #1 had the holes in her feet, they changed it for the #2(I have a #2... I found her in a thrift store with all her original pieces(except box, earrings, stand, & arm tag) for $30US....that was my "snagged it" of a life-time!!! I think I will snag this one too... she is just so beautiful and looks to be a much better quality than the non-Silkstone repo's they came out with the late 90's early 2000's. Your original #5 is also so very pretty. I think they have a cure for the green ear now... so do please look into it.... being vintage, it is so very important to get her preserved. Sending positive energy... and hope you get to 100% soon.

That simple, plain black dress on that Barbie you mentioned looks so chic now, that you added your own stamp on it! After all, it's fun to dress and re-dress our dolls!

I feel u, Suresh, it is very magical to hold the OG Barbie, esp in silkstone. I've been waiting for her in this form n I got her as soon as I found out about her. In silkstone she is just so precious, a luxurious reproduction, the next best thing to owning the original Barbie doll from 59. As the last silkstone to b released in 2019, she is def a grand finale, n at the price point of $50 through the Barbie website she feels like a steal. My only nitpick is that her blue eyeshadow is not prominent enough, but, just like u, I love her smooth, minimally articulated heavy body. I'm really excited to have her n even more excited to embellish her with fabulously chic beach gear that I've been hunting down through the internet. I'll b happy to share some pics wit u as soon as I get her done. I've been enjoying ur videos since I discovered them a little over a year ago n have brought several barbie dolls based on ur reviews. I like that extro: "standing all on her own". As a brand you can say she's been doing that for so many years, come hell and high waters, come criticism and attacks, come brand switching and abandonment. I feel for you when you become defensive of her. I think that this is a manifestation of how a doll becomes a brand especially when you've shared the best parts of your life with her. Barbie has shared hers too and it goes beyond generations. She is an influencer and a mirror of what pop culture and life are since the time she was molded from plastic and I think it's great that she is still celebrated today for all those years with a doll that reminds us of how long she, as .doll and as a brand has been standing. Bill Greening is a genius in concept doll design. I am a great admirer of how he is able to execute ideas and concepts into a doll. His Haunted Beauty line is one of my favorites. I have 3 of them and they are exceptional down to the last detail. Doll designers are more than just fashion designers, they are character designers, costume designers, ideators and much of our world (whether Barbie, Fashion Integrity, etc) would not be as rich and colorful, imaginatively escapist if not for the wild minds of these designers. I believe that Barbie you reviewed stands for all the dolls that came after. Those who followed her lead. She flung open the door and let all our imaginations and playfulness come alive If not for her what a lackluster world we'd all be living in. I cannot imagine how pop culture, the doll industry and all that we enjoy today would be if she didn't choose to stand tall and proud.

Anyone know if this Barbie will be available in the Barbie Shop in New York about march this year? Because I’m in Spain, here she si not in stores, and online is expensive (like twice). But I have an opportunity in March in Manhattan to buy her in person. So, what do you know about that.

She's quite a lovely doll, so glad I purchased her! Thanks for the great review. I just want to say that I understand your defense of "Best in Black", I don't agree, but I understand. The price was right but the fashion was so wrong. Over the last few weeks, I've seen collectors do wonderful tweaks by lengthening by way of under skirts, adding bows, broaches, opaque hosiery, jewelry around the collar, buttons, liquid paint and stick on bling on the sleeves. Pretty much anything would be an improvement, 'cause the fashion was so poorly made it made the silkie look bad. Thankfully there are die-hard Silkie lovers that see her potential and purchased her anyway. jmo

Like so many of us, I bought 2 - one is opened and displayed. Love the weight of her! Can’t wait to see her in vintage outfits. i admit to being tiresome...yes, still whining about the cheapened sunglasses. Love that they’re hinged...but the blue lenses are just one solid piece - sloppily attached. (I bought extra Black and White Swimsuit Repros a few years back just because her sunglasses were hinged AND had individually inset lenses)
Dear Suresh, I miss those days when I would have to tune down the volume of my phone after You say: "Ok, let's take a look at her" . For me it is your signature... Jokes apart, I really like the doll. Looks like a premium, collector doll. Something we've been missing from Mattel.

The makeup on this beautify is flawless and she doesn’t need any clothes besides he swimsuit but it would be nice if Mattel will create more of the couture outfits that Barbie is known for.

I got her because of my love to mattel and barbie. Turned out great because i never thought i would love her before.. Loving the doll stand!!!!!! I feel bad dor rob best. Some people think that he's losing his magic on silkstones. But i think you're right mattel is limiting this doll because of the budget.. Before its less accessories now its basic dresses than the good old glam gowns... I'm mourning for BFMC. RIP

In my opinion the bfmc should have been rooted in these vintage details. Imagine all of those girls freestanding with a base like this. They revisited so many of the vintage cloths with the bfmc and their faces are certainly referencing the original face. A missed opportunity imo. Love this repro and would love the two convention versions of her too!

The first time I ever held a Silkstone (Hollywood Hostess) I gasped at the weight of her and was instantly hooked! THIS is the doll that should have been the official celebration 60th Birthday of Barbie BUT I am so happy this error was corrected with the 75th Birthday of Mattel! And that makes this overgrown little girl very happy!

Haiiii Suresh..In my collection me had a basic Barbie doll. It had a very beautiful face sculpt. Recently I taken it the doll from packaging. It's hair is Beautifully styled....With lots and lots of gel. Sooooo sticky. How can we remove that glue type gel..Plz advice...

Not really. There have been other special edition dolls (Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, etc.) who have had Silkstone bodies.
She’s so pretty but I don’t think I’ll get her because I have the 35th Anniversary reproduction version already
I think she looks great ! My only complaint would be the nostrils are a little too pronounced imo, if they were smaller or lighter, she would've been close to perfect. I think they based the face mold from later 1st era Barbie, like 1964 or 65 when her neck peg got bigger, that's why her jaw doesn't look as slim as earlier Barbie. Other than that, she's great !

From the rumor the original face sculpt was lost by Mattel. So they crafted the repro head, with the date 1958 I think written behind their heads. But even of we compare this head with AG heads or later bubblecut or ponytail, the faces are different. And many of the vintage dolls have a fuller face because of the neck knobs of their bodies. I think the best repro head is the one used for the wedding day set (the one with ken and brunette #1). I noticed the shape of the jaw is different and the rooting on the side of her head, has the same shape as original. They used the same head mould on the barbie teacher, nurse, astronaut repros. This head in my opinion is closer to the original one.

The grimace on my face when the close up of her fit is shown while you put her on her stand. Its like stepping on a nail or something. Haha
But I think I love the look of the doll on that stand because you dont see anything supporting her crotch area. Its like she's standing on her own. Vey beautiful. I hope we get to see more of that in the new dolls.
