Police Chief Says He Chugged Vodka After Crashing His Car, Not Before

- Dashcam footage shows the now-former Wister Police Chief being arrested after allegedly driving drunk with his kid in the car on April 28. Kurt Morsund claimed he chugged vodka after nearly totaling his vehicle, “I drank the alcohol after I crashed.” The Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper said witnesses claimed he was driving erratically before the crash, hitting guard rails and swerving all over the road. The chief asked the trooper to “help him out,” but he was still arrested for DUI and endangering a child. Morsund has since resigned from the Wister Police Department.

Guy "I chugged vodka immediately after the crash"
Officer "Where's the Vodka"
Guy "What Vodka?"
It's in his stomach! Duh
😆
I’ve ran a similar call, and the guy walked free.
Oh it’s on the side of the road….
Well let’s go find it 😊
😂😂😂
What a loser. Another cop that thinks he’s above the law
I would too. I couldn't resist the power trip. 😂
I know right…🙄
Typical government
He is above the law,he is just not above the cameras that they put in
Most do and beat their boy friends at night
He shouldn’t be treated any differently than a drunk driver. Yet, here we are…gets special treatment for breaking the law because he’s a chief police. Hand cuffed in the front instead of behind. Gets to call whoever he wants while being taken to the station. SMH.
Agree completely. I see on so many videos where cops tell people they are not allowed to cut breaks or treat anyone differently but when another cop breaks the law they are always treated completely different.
@@johntownPSN Yep. 💯!
And if it's a child of a Police Chief, they get protected, trust me.
I think you’d treat your coworker the same.
Only because of cameras otherwise they’d brush it under the rug
This dude is PLASTEREDDDDDDD
Fkn smmmarreddd
Smashed
He’s sober
Why would a police chief start drinking after crashing his car knowing how this would make him look?
Right, he wouldn’t 😏
he wouldnt, hes simply lying lol
because he was drinking before but thought this scenerio sounded plausible enough for reasonable doubt
Because lying while drunk makes you say the craziest stuff.
Bc police know you can’t be charged with a DUI that way. My brother is LEO and he told me this a long time ago
Reminder that if any of us civilians were drunk driving we would be IN BACK of the squad car NOT THE FRONT. And they wouldn’t even be this patient 🤨
@@Mooonchild711in many states?! Name three - no, name even ONE, where law enforcement officers place suspects- under investigation- in the front seat?!
Yes, 💯!!
This is how every person should be treated. Not just cops. There's no reason to treat people like cops normally do
Also being allowed to freely make phone calls while arrested in the car wouldn't be allowed either.
@@GenghisKhan311 No, because you never know a person’s state of mind. If you treat a mentally ill criminal who is on drugs or drunk like they did this cop in the video, you don’t know what they might do and are capable of doing without arresting them properly. It puts the officers who are arresting the criminals lives in danger. So, this kind of arrest should never happen no matter who it is.
Oh right, he just happened to have a bottle of liquor in his car to chug after a wreck, I don’t think so
Yup. Even the trooper asked "Where's the vodka bottle?" To which chief got defensive. "Vodka? Who said anything about vodka?!." "...you did." "Oh.....I threw it on the side of the road." (Last bit was slurred by him.)
Lol
Break Vodka seal in case of emergency after a crash. Yeah, right...
😂😂😂
Lmfao
Thanks Captain obvious..
When someone who's suppose to enforce the law, think he is the law.
He is the law, he made phone calls while under the law
How convenient. I mean it's not like a police chief would have a reason to cover anything up now.
The arresting officer is low-key hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣
He'd have been much better off just being honest and owning it. Lying about it with that ridiculous story makes him look 100x worse.
NOBODY believes him! It’s utterly ridiculous 🤦🏻♀️
EXACTLY. In fact he gives Alex Murdaugh liar vibes!
The constant look of confusion/humor in the arresting officers face throughout the phone calls is great 😂
The first trooper does a great job of handling this awkward situation. He treats the chief respectfully, but assertively, friendly, but reality-based.
He's pathetic, too cowardly to immediately arrest a criminal because it's his boss.
And if it weren’t for the cameras and audio, guaranteed he would fudge the paperwork. He even said there are cameras and audio recording everything and can’t do anything to help to chief because of that.
That's EXACTLY what I'm tryin' to say!!! That 1st cop would of DEFINITELY let him go if noone else was around. In a Heartbeat!!! The police being MADE to wear cameras now is the Best thing the police have did in a very very long time, generally speaking of course. But how many other cops would let him go if no cameras were not there??? Hmmmmm.......
Great job handling it??? He wasn’t even close to handling it correctly…man should be in the back in cuffs, detained until the FST then cuffed and arrested for DUI. This is disgustingly wrong. Privileged treatment in everything he did.
Not really 😂 He gave the drunk special treatment. Despicable
this is crazy, carrying vodka in the car to drink in the case of an accident?
I know right!
😂
You know he’s lying right
Be prepared!
The ole bottle of vodka “in case I crash into a tree” so the trooper believes me…
Hope he gets help before he hurts himself or someone else. Addiction is a horrible spot to be in. Multiple relatives of mine have died because of it.
I agree. I pray he gets help. So many people are addicted to so many substances these days. It’s very sad
"As a brother", trying to develop rapport with the officer investigating. This is why I don't drink a drop of alcohol and drive. I find alternative ways to get around. Too much at stake.
What would you do in this situation if you were the trooper
@@ClintonCouldHaveWarnedUs- I would be contrite and humbled and absorb the gravity of everything I just did especially with all of the authority and responsibility entrusted in me. I would be ashamed of myself, apologetic, and really ponder my life rather than lying uncontrollably and encouraging subordinate to lie, cheat, and deceive.
These are not traits that the public really expects from policemen today but I’m telling you that that’s exactly how I would feel.
@@aao449that's cool but he was talking about the first trooper talking to the drunken police chief
Hes not drinking, but he has vodka with him to chug after. Yeah....
The call to the bondsmen was the cringiest thing I’ve ever seen. Pathetic
that’s gotta be one of the most awkward but also funniest car rides i’ve ever witnessed. i feel so bad for the guy driving just listening to this dude call the wrong people 🤣🤣🤣
.21 BrAC and had a CHILD in his vehicle. Don’t worry though, he was able to resign and keep his pension.
This gotta be a joke right??????
That's disgusting!🤬🤬🤬
Plus apparently the child was in the front seat. 🙄
Why am I not seeing any outraged comments about how he had his CHILD in the car!?!?
Goodbye. Don't drink and drive, folks.
Agreed.
The usual suspect. He just had a bad day your honor
4:42
What vodka?
Probably the funniest moment in this police skit...😂😂
You have disrespected your colleague by putting him in this position. As a police chief he must have known this wouldn’t fly.
Suspects cuffed in back, seated in back, phone taken away, calls allowed at jail.
You should write their police department and let them know!
This officer is an Oklahoma State Highway Patrolman. There is no cage between the front or back of that OHP vehicle. The weapons he carries are kept in the back Arrestees can’t be placed in the back for those reasons. What if he got his hands in one ? Got a wild hair and decided to harm the OHP who he could easily reach from the back ? What is wrong with you people ? Do you not notice anything ?
Furthermore the OHP was allowed to make phone calls in which he further implicated himself and that evidence was used against him at his show cause hearing. But do tell us more. Extra steps taken to be sure everything was kosher since this was a LEO. Be glad !
Interesting and that is my ignorance.
It said Trooper and he is making phone calls while the Officer is driving. Haven’t seen this before. He didn’t implicate himself he said in response” I know it’s not over but in the meantime it will be a disaster”.
Ugh huh.. like the "i only had two beers" in typical duis. Makes zero sense. Hes lucky he didnt take his life, child's life or the life of anyone else. 😔
Agreed.
Why is ANY audio redacted. Nothing should be redacted the citizens he was supposed to be looking out for have a right to know EVERYTHING.
They redact certain personal information like socials n addresses but yeah this was clearly much more than that I agree
He was talking crap about his ex wife, who has nothing to do with the arrest. We don't need that information.
I hope this man gets counseling, he sounds and looks so defeated which led him to this situation.
Instead of everyone saying “HE SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE EVERYONE ELSE” - we should be looking at this situation as how everyone else should be treated. He’s a human. We’re all human. If I ever get in this situation I hope I’m treated decently.
Love ❤️ Your sincere comment.
Calling the bail bondsman before even blowing is a choice lol
This person needs an intervention and rehab
Wtf how many phone calls did he make while chilling in the front seat
Well at least one wrong call 🤣
Conveniently, you have vodka in the vehicle and drink "after" the accident. Sounds like a cover-up. Let me drink now so it won't look like I have been drinking and driving.
Drinnking after the crash is comedy 😂😂
All these drunk driving cases happen so close to home. "But my house is right there".
You're entitled to a phone call, but the chief gets to call everyone in his contacts 😂
Its unsettling when they mention the cameras. That just tells you how crooked they are and would behave differently when no one is watching.
I was thinking the same thing, it's always, "I'm doing the right thing because there's 6 camera's watching us rn." Totally ridiculous and outs themselves.
"Like you said, you have a high tolerance, maybe it's out of your system by now". 😂😂😂 I'm sure it was, I love the arresting officers fake optimism 😂
Whoever the trooper is he did a great job and the interior of his car is very nice.
“It’ would be different if you called before you wrecked” what a joke
wouldnt it be though?
“It would be different if you would have called us before you broke your neck.” -EMS
He meant it as in “you should have called us for a ride instead of driving drunk”, so it would be different bc he’d have no DUI
Exactly. He meant if you had called us for a ride before deciding to get behind the wheel !!!
I hope that’s what he meant. Though I doubt it
Maybe people would like cops more if they treated citizens like they treat their chiefs... just maybe. Dude should lose his job but the next county would hire him anyways
Was watching hasan react to a cop getting pulled over for a dui and he said the exact same thing. Everyone would love the police and there’d be no police brutality if they treated everyone like they treat their chiefs
Am I the only one who had tears laughing so hard while he talked to the bail bondsman? 😂
Noooooo!!!!! You me n the arresting officer as well!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
@@babyboyy207 I was choking on my cough I laughed so hard
He's concerned about his salary & pension.
Very cleaver. I began drinking after the accident. I wasn't driving drunk. Oh no. There were witnesses.
Not really that clever. He's probably heard that excuse a million times.
story checks out seems fine to me
Lots of us non cops have problems also... Better press charges!
They did. DUI and Child Endangerment.
If we ever get driverless cars, people are going to drink way more (if that's possible).
It's gonna be mad with people drunk or on drugs totally spaced out, being driven by AI powered cars, like in the Sci Fi films.
Driverless cars exist. Unfortunately people who are addicts will find ways to be better addicts.
The problem is if you actually arrest a police chief like you should the entire police department will turn against you , but if you don’t do some kind of attest you look like you’re letting them off the hook it’s a catch 22 for the arresting officer
Well it’s on video and now on YT so PC is going nowhere, his career is gone, unless they send him to AA.Alcoholism is regarded as a disease by the WHO.
@@Ann-sj4pt the chief resigned and was charged with Aggravated DUI and Child Endangerment. So the Trooper who did field tests and a breathalyzer most certainly wasn’t afraid of anything. He just chose to remain calm and professional and is being eviscerated for it.

Yep cover up
He was charged with aggravated DUI and child endangerment he resigned as chief of police
Yeah. Sure he did! WTF is up with government employees thinking laws don't apply to them. There's a mayor who's corrupt as the day is long, being investigated by FBI. Then, there's the DA in New York, who thinks prosecuting murders and being "THE DA" gives her the privilege of not stopping when an officer is trying to pull her over, and then cussing him out, when they get to her house. Then, a NY Judge assaulting an officer. If anything, these Gov't officials should be setting an example to show no one is ABOVE THE LAW! There are more examples in the last week. But, I've made my point.
They think the laws don't apply to them because they don't!

Chugging a bottle of vodka AFTER you got in a wreck is almost dumber than drinking before you drive 😂
Why though

I love how you don't outright accuse the officer of drinking. You listen to the whole story first...lmao
Sounds like the engine has a slight knock
Doesn’t it take like I dunno 30min for the alcohol to fully hit ya? It’s not like it’s injected into your blood
So if the cops got there and this is 5minutes after the accident, then he drank before the accident for him to be this wasted or he’s an ultralight weight and has no food in him and drank an entire bottle of vodka and will be comatose within 30min.
I’m betting he drank before he crashed on this fact alone!
I mean if he did chug a fifth I wouldn’t be surprised if it only took 5-10 minutes now he could have been drunk and drank after the crash to have a story also depends on the abv there is a difference in 30% and 50%
It takes an hr per beer/shot/wine glass average to work into ur blood stream.
Have you ever heard of LYING??? It's pretty common even more than sense apparently...
@@babyboyy207 what? Yeah people lie all the time but you can’t say “yeah he lied” and use that without any evidence to back the claim in court or anything with reason
