- Before you say it... the gas tanks are out and the place has a green light from the county, no lease yet will take some time.

thank you !!!

The gas station is really exciting!!! I'll get the one you don't... ;)
Giaco Whatever no kidding that would be epic! Jimmy diresta and giaco whatever in the same gas stations only twenty miles apart! How cool would that be! Maybe david wealder can get the next one down the road! It would be a makers paradise! Lol. Awesome! 👍
Outlaw Edge Bladeworks Bushcraft and Survival I'm not kidding in fact! :)))
I vote Yes! Giaco go for it Makers Paradise here we come :)
Yes!! haha awesome :D
Wait, you're in Upstate as well??? Why didn't I know this?!
Another station of the same design?? That's crazy!
Kinda like they used a cookie cutter back in the day, to crank out these buildings. I've found that a lot of modern gas stations from one specific company have identical construction.
I bet there are plans for that building style a bit like a particular brand of standardised fast food chains, I wonder if Jimmy could secure the design rights? I foresee DiResta Stations all over North America ;) LOL
Yeah! Or, a standardized design for Maker Spaces all over the place!
Yep it'd just looks so cool would get my vote on the local council ;)
Bananas even!
All I want to say is that I'm starting a bake shop in the most far place you could imagine, Chile. All of your videos have result so inspiring that somehow everytime I watch'em I renew my passion for what I'm doing, because thats what you give, passion for making. Greetings from the south.
Jimmy, with full respect mate....you are a wizard, a master and an awesome example of how anyone can create anything they want or need.
You said that when you put your mind to something you end up with multiple options, 3 bandsaws, 2 buildings etc. This is simply you being relaxed in where you are at and what you are doing. I have been watching your videos for about 2-3 years now and I've seen most of the back catalog of what you've been involved in. Throughout I've seen you getting deeper and deeper into your truth and creative space and it's been one of the most brilliant things I've experienced, so much so that I've been inspired to reclaim my makerness. I've got a small 6x8ft shed out the back of my rental home but with thanks to the inspiration from your creativity and mastery every square ft, or meter, as we call it in the down under colony...is now my creator space. My tools are few and far between but I have the basics and a creative hunger.
Thanks Jimmy, keep it up mate and keep tuning in to your source.
Peace out,
Schmo
Hi jimmy just recently discovered you , I'm a self employed carpenter in Wales U.K. I really find you inspiring both myself and my 10 year old son love to watch, keep it up !!
Conrad davies thank you for the support!!
Hey Jimmy, greetings from down under mate. Thanks for sharing the way you do on these videos. The fact that you are transparent about 'learning stuff' (yeah, we all thought you knew it all :) ) is a powerfully encouraging thing for so many people - 'hey yes i too can go to the hardware store and ask questions, and learn the lingo, and some really cool and empowering stuff too.'
I'm convinced that you are encouraging a whole new generation of 'makers' mate, good on you.
Rob Robertson thank you sir!!! Thank you !!
Totally! I would be so intimidated going into someplace like Wolberg's just to look around, never mind actually asking a question. It really is nice to know that someone you think knows everything is still a noob in some situations.
Jimmy, that phenomenon of noticing the gas station is your "reticular activating system" at work. It filters your attention. When you're interested in something new, suddenly that new thing start to pop up in your life everywhere. It's pretty cool.
Doing up a gas station would seriously pull in so so so many viewers! WHAT A SERIES!!
That gas station looks perfect! Lots of storage and sectioned off areas. I can see the potential! Time for a kickstarter!
always fun tagging along. gas station's got some real style & character. good luck!
I did pottery at knight school with my girlfriend and we loved every bit of it. Keep doing a little more with your electrician, it is so handy to have this skill and it will take you onto other skills like plumbing, plastering and bricklaying. I ended up building my house from scratch I did the plans, dug the trenches (I am not sure what you call them in the USA) did all the stonework roofing and ended up with a six-bedroom house with land and a wood shop. I have not yet mastered the art of horse riding, they seem to know I am not very good and make it harder than it should be (my girlfriend who can ride very well says I look like a sack of potatoes instead of riding the horse)
Love the chickens at the door as if they are watching and following along, when in reality they are just opportunists waiting for food. The cat was cool too.
The thing of seing more of what you´re interested in is a "phenomenon" called SELECTIVE ATTENTION. Google it for a better comprehension. And YAY for the Gas station! I´m pretty excited to see what you can do with it.
The station: Make sure you sign a legal agreement that you are not responsible for the underground gas tanks. The last thing you need is the EPA showing up and holding you responsible for a leaking gasoline ⛽️ tank. Can you even imagine what it costs to remove and remediate underground tanks?
Donald Fugitt is correct. The tanks could cost you as much as the property!
Donald Fugitt confirmed. You don't want to be the one to deal with the UST (underground storage tank) Jimmy. Check on any previous Environmental Site Assessments that may have been performed on the property.
It is possible that they were already removed since I didn't see any pumpworks in the video. But.... you are absolutely right. Nobody wants to spend $20K to dig up and throw old tanks away.
Note to self, when all else fails, read the video description...
T B :Even then I would obtain a signed document from the owner. If the gas has leaked into local ground water the liability could hang on for years. EPA is Federal and an Ok from the county, well, good luck. 1950's were single shell tanks = leaks.
Hi Jimmy. I love your work, and I agree the gas station would make an EPIC work shop/gallery for you. can't wait to hear more about it on the Pod cast. You, Bob, and David are such an inspiration. Thanks for all that you do and share with us. Cheers from California.
It's nice to see you working on pottery ...My wife is a ceramist , and I know how hard it is....It's nice to see how open-mind you are to learn new things. We are learnig so many things from your videos . Thank you so much ..and keep doing it. Greetings from Spain
That's a pretty good amount of greenery growing in that gas station.
Organic carpet...its "in" now. :P
Healthy.
It is from the 70s!
Cobalt33 70's grass is the best
Thats exciting news about the garage. Man, that was a lot of green moss all over the floor. :D Very cool.
RetroWeld
I thought it was 70's green shag carpeting.
I love the gas station idea, Jimmy. Your point at the end about things coming in waves when you start looking at them: I don't know if there's a phrase for it, but I think it comes down to recognition due to interest. It's like when you get a new car or truck. Say you get a new Jeep. You've driven past Jeeps all your life and never paid any attention to them because you weren't interested at the time. It's only when you start seriously looking at them or get one that they start to stand out because you have an interest in one and are paying attention to them. At least it's that way to me.
The moss in that place is unreal! The aesthetics of the place can't be beat. Cool looking building!
Dood. You know I love all your videos. But these Vlogs are truly excellent. Pretty much the only ones I watch. Well, maybe Laura too. Anyways, wishing you all the best in the new shop venture :-) All these successes are hard won and well deserved !!!
That would be so awesome if you created a series out of the restoration process of the gas station!
I love the sloped windows and the moss looks so cool. I agree with Bob, you should get some before pictures.
Same exact idea I've had. I've been looking for old gas stations as a possible shop for about a year now. I'm waiting to see how this goes with baited breath! Good on you!
Hi Jimmy,
Long time big fan. We are renovating the building a few doors down from this gas station. It was an old bank, next door to Acra Building Supply. If your in the area, your welcome to stop by, I would like to meet you. We are renovating for a new freestanding Dunkin Donuts. Pouring concrete tomorrow on the inside.
I hope that all goes fine!
Yes please get that gas station!!! It looks awesome
Wow, so bizarre that there is another station. Thanks for taking us around for the exploration as well! Really cool.
Always appreciate the vids Jimmy, many thanks :-)
Wow,not normally a jealous guy but got the pangs of it when I saw the gas station. I would absolutely love to have a space like that! The scope of what can be done there is virtually limitless. Total result!!
Jimmy, I'll take a week's vacation from work and come help you get your new shop squared away. Looks like it would be a blast.
You could use the lower part in the basement for your shop. You'd feel right at home. ☺️
Look forward to your end of week catch up every week - good on ya mate. Bloody awesome looking workshop!
The amount of ingenuity that has been used in that building shows in the video . Imagine the things that has been repaired there . Awesome building
Nice green rug in the workshop! ;-)
I LOVE these videos and the cat bumpers! That gas station!!!!!!!! YES!
We do not have abandoned places where I am. You are so talented, and, fearless. No wonder you advise others. Finally you show your hands. They are so artistic without those "humongous" gloves.
Hey, Jimmy! Before you plan something with the gas station, plan something to get the mold out completely! mold particles may combine with dust particles in the workshop and may severy damage someone's health! Glad you found the way to get such an unteresting facility, but be aware! some molds are really no good! Good luck!
Looking forward to some videos where you clean and fix up that old gas station to use as your new shop!
This will also be great for his old pickup truck. He wanted to do a full series on it.
I love old industrial spaces like that!!
BEAUTIFUL 50'S ARCHITECTURE. WITH ALL THOSE SMALL ROOMS IN THE OIL BAY YOU COULD HAVE A TURNING ROOM, A CNC ROOM, A WOOD SHOP, A SHOW ROOM IN THE OFFICE WITH THOSE VERY COOL WINDOWS. WOW YOU DO HAVE AN EYE JD.
I commented on Instagram about that gas station. I DIG IT and it is such a great look on the outside. If you get that place it will be AMAZING. I did not realize all the space it had below too. You could easily fit all the stuff you have in your shop in this place. If y'all decide to buy it, once you finish the shop on the farm and move everything in, this place would make an awesome gallery space. Who knows, it could become a shop to sell awesome pieces that y'all make like Taylor's furniture and leather work or any awesome items you make and decide you want to sell.
What you explained at 8:20 that you suddenly have multiple choices, isn't a sign its your mind just looking for something when you keep thinking about it. What I mean is when you need something you unknowing keep an eye for it whenever and wherever possible. Thats why suddenly you feel that its popping up from nowhere.
Like when you buy a car you dont see a lot of them on the road then you get it and BAM, they are everywhere
DragonsKindler Its called the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon
v1d300 pattern recognition
v1d300 kinda what happens when you buy a car, all off the sudden you see hundreds of the same model and color as yours.

I hope the gas station is coming with all the stuff inside. Looks like there is some gems in there.
As if Jimmy didn´t had enough stuff already.
loving these weekly vlogs! thanks for sharing!
I personally don't get tired of you talking about ice pick manufacturing. Every step is something new that I learn along with you. The gas station seems like it would be an ultra cool shop . Peace.
Most definitely the gas station is a winner, so much potential.
that gas station looks awesome! add a few rooms for airbnb ;)
Hola Carlos!! Volvé con Cactus!! xaxaxaxa
AWESOME. Love the design. It's been sitting there 20 years just waiting for you Jimmy.
Whenever I'm researching a vehicle I want to buy, as long as I want that vehicle, I can't stop seeing it on the road for a very long time. It's amazing how much we actually see when we think we aren't looking. My eyes are literally drawn to them like magnets.
Next time just focus in on ten million dollars and see if you get two or three!
That station would be super cool as a shop/exhibit!
Too cool. Was that moss growing on the floor or a green shag carpet?
Excited to see what you do with the place! hope you'll get it! Please film it all... Keep the inspiring work!
I reckon that you could make use of every single item in that gas station and amaze us as usual with something great. Really admire your work - AND your calm delivery.
beware of asbestos...
6/3 wire could be a big mistake. Need to use pvc conduit with #6 single strand. Talk to your electrician bout it PLEASE.
Bill Binnicker he suggested it. It is temporary.
UF wire is direct burial rated so you don't need conduit
Conduit would be a much better choice, but UF will last long enough. Just protect the ends. I hate finding it run in the worst places...underneath sidewalks, around shrubs, right under the sod.
And temporary solutions become permanent eventually. BTDT.
Tom Ahoks Yeah really!
I think the building is awesome looking! Interesting stuff ;)
Refreshing to see somebody who is so willing to learn new things. I'm probably a good bit younger than mr. DiResta, but I can already feel myself starting to get "stuck" in some of my thinking and behaviors. It's tough to remain receptive to new ideas.
Good luck Jimmy, always excited to see your videos!
Seems like a better idea just to build on your own land. You have so much of it upstate. You can build it all to you own specifications. Plus no more renting.
Best part of all is the time you don't need to waste traveling to and from work.
Phil Dog he's gotta move pretty soon though. seems like a good idea, and maybe he can keep it as a showroom or someone else can take over in the future
Phil Dog I think traveling to and from work is probably an integral part of how Jimmy operates. He finds cool stuff, gets inspiration, and has time to think. That's just how I imagine it though. It's for these reasons, that I would consider having a shop away from home.
Laurie Lucas Yeah, but the stuff the stuff that really brings home the bacon is commissioned work. Faster he can get that done the better.
Besides, he's still commonly travelling between upstate and NYC pretty regularly. Plenty of inspiration there.
When worlds collide! NYC CNC meets-up with Keith Rucker and Jimmy DiResta. Sounds like a CZcams critical mass.
Was thinking the same thing. Throw inn Keith Fenner (Turn Wright), Tom Lipton (Ox Tools) and Adam Booth (Abom79), and all of my favorite channels will have connected...
I am so hyped about this gas station! i love the old styling and was surprised at how big the "basement" mechanic pit is, that's definitely a pretty awesome building and i hope to see videos of the reno and shop build there one day.
thanks!!
So crazy man, I've been in love with that second building you showed for years, just FYI, really good pizza next door, so exciting to have such an awesome maker so close to home, would love to meet you someday, 👍🏻
Don't shoot a pineapple! Its the king of the fruits. Shoot something useless like an Avocado!
I don't know how this makes sense on this video, but it's so true.
Thank you that means a lot to me, since my family loves avocados.
Useless as an avocado?! They're good
Max Maker No! Don't shoot avocados! Use an eggplant or a turnup!
Avocados rule!
Avocados are amazing.
Wouldn't that be something to be concerned about? Actually renting a building that is in such disrepair and that you have to pay to fix up? And then that would only bring more value to the actual owner of the building. he could end up selling it to somebody else. I would be concerned about that. it would seem more feasible if he would fix it up before he actually rented it it's the landlord's responsibility. I don't know just my opinion :-) it still looks pretty cool though
I'm sure all that will be reflected in the low rent, plus he will be assured a minimum rental period.
As soon as the ink dries, that place will get Diresta'd into good shape.
I feel in love with the design of that old gas station, the moment i saw it. Great find!
Man, I've seen you feature that building in one or two other videos in the past. If I was anywhere near that area I would help you take care of that building and bring it into its reformed glory! Good luck my friend.
That gas station is down the road from me!
Can you show it on google earth?
Max Maker He didn't mention the town, so maybe he doesn't want everybody to know
Agreed, but really only took me 2 minutes to locate on google maps with the clues in the video..
Indeed, easy to find, also his upstate house is easy to find. I love this stuff, like geoguessr :D
hey jimmy can you do a colab with this old tony please
Would be awesome!
Yep
Good luck Jimmy. You got me thinking about a new space
Exciting stuff Jimmy.... I'm like you , just keep on learning . I love trying and learning new things and challenging myself. Best of luck on a new shop. Thanks
hi Jimmy.. I watch you here in the UK.. you're a massive inspiration to me.. as soon as I've watched you make something I go to my workshop and make things.. thanks. john.
excited to watch you transform that place into something all your own. love the videos man!
when you learn a new word you start to hear it all the time. Much like seeing old gas stations. If you get it, I'll donate a couple days of labor to the cause!
Jimmy d
I really enjoy your videos I been and auto mech for 30 years and I worked in a few different station and I never seen a gas station with a Basement ??? , I learn something new each time I watch your videos Thank you for taking the time to make them PeteM
I do the same thing! Every time I put my attention on something new or discover something I then begin finding or seeing them all over. I think it has more to do with just not realizing these things before because I wasn't focused on them.
The law of attraction at its finest! Love you work Jimmy! Your positive attitude and drive to continue learning is motivating to say the least! You are a true inspiration! Keep on keeping on man!
The gas station is super cool. Would definitely be fun to see you rehab it and turn it into your new shop/gallery. Love mid-century modern design and this place is definitely that. Can't wait to see what the future holds. Love love love the vlogs.
This is awesome man - glad you might have a space. Now I want to make a trip up to NY more than ever
Abandoned gas stations..... sounds like expandig shops to me, that's a great opportunity Mr. Diresta, hope you can make them your completely!!!
Great video Jimmy. I hope you get a great deal on the gas station of your choice.
Thanks for sharing
Absolutely amazing how nature always takes over forgotten places like that gas station. The moss growing on the floor was wild to see. Can't wait to see what you do with the amazing shaped structure. Keep it up. Love your vlogs.
Something tells me you'll work in the pit & the ground floor will be empty, just 'cause you'll miss your old rat hole shop in the city - ha! Great space, man, can't wait to see it evolve!
Don't know if you're looking at buying the gas station eventually, but don't forget the EPA trap on old places like that. You can get stuck with tens of thousands of dollars of environmental cleanup if the old gas tanks haven't been properly removed.
Jimmy just received my first Prandi hatchet and axe. These are fantastic! Thanks dude!
I honestly hope you can get your hands on one of those gas stations and turn it into your new shop. They both look beautiful in the snow, and quite able to provide a solid base for an astonishing looking workplace! Best of luck!
awesome.. I thought I was the only maker on the tubes that makes abandoned videos.. cool to watch Jimmy
Awesome, the first gas station comes fully stocked with materials for many projects and with that huge cellar you'll be right at home...
...and I want one of those ice-picks!
Hey Jimmy. I have really bad chronic pain with terrible anxiety to go with it. Your videos really calm me down and help me cope with the painful hours in my day. Thank you :)
Hi Jimmy, wonderful the new finish of ice pick, and I love old gas station👍🏼👍🏼
That gas station is the COOOOLEST possible option for a shop! WOW! Really looking forward to seeing you fix the thing up! I loooove the arcitecture of that building! inspiring stuff!!
I like the ice pick updates - shows natural progression on improving techniques and the product. Keep them coming.
All the enthusiasm, energy & ideas acts like a charger to ramp up my motivation. Thank you so much for sharing!
love the update "Vlog" thing- the gas station would be amazing.
Diresta, the gas station is a great idea. I can already see the amazing work and effort you would put into it.
You know the old saying you learn something new every day, watching your videos I learn something new. Love the old gas station never know what you will find in there.
Jimmy -
I'm a fan of all things Mid-Century, and that gas station is COOL. It's like it's just been sitting there waiting for you for 14 years. Please don't change the shape of those windows, or that roofline.
Wow the gas station is really interesting. I love seeing old dirty things come to life.
Please update us frequently about it's progress!
It's amazing how you keep learning !
I'm so hopeful this building works out for you! Excited to see the transformation!
your thirst for learning is inspiring.
Ohhhh... That gas station looks awesome! Can't wait!
what an awesome building! I hope you're planning on video documenting the transformation - I'd love to watch that!
