You are a great teacher. You have a very concise way of communicating. All killuh, no filluh! Thank you!

Kenny Burrell was/is one of my favorite players. For decades he seemed to be largely forgotten. I was fortunate to see him play live, in a very intimate setting, then meet him back stage, and get my vinyl copy (original pressing) signed by him. I haven't checked recently, but in the last year or so, I heard he was having serious health issues, and was unable to pay for the needed treatments. He had a Go Fund Me set up. Anyone who is a fan, might want to check and see how he is. It's unbelievable to me that a guy with that much history as a player and musician would find himself in that position.

What I really like about this video (besides its conciseness) is that you explain the WHY and the historical context, and not just how to execute the concept. Thanks!

This stuff is way beyond my capacity as a player, but it's always fascinating to learn a bit about how it works, and it's a treat to hear you soloing in this style, too. (Since I know you aren't allowed to say it yourself, I'll say it for you: "Ow!"). And your mentioning that most of the classic be-bop recordings don't include guitarists reminded me how much I enjoy some of the exceptions to that rule, especially Remo Palmieri on Dizzy Gillespie's "Groovin' High," Arvin Garrison on Charlie Parker's "Yardbird Suite" and "Ornithology," and Barney Kessel on Parker's "Relaxin' at Camarillo." The guitar adds so much to those tunes, and always leaves me wishing the beboppers had included guitarists in their bands just a little more often.

There is a guitar insider video exactly why guitar is such an endlessly fascinating instrument. Thanks for nuggets of great useful bits that are readily transferable to whatever genre of music you can sneak them in.

That’s great how the rhythm changes the sound entirely. I’m most definitely a swing fan but love Kenny Burrell’s sound.

Darn it, David - I'd been avoiding jazz as too complicated for my simple mind, thinking I should stick with rudimentary blues and rock stuff - but the lines you play in these quick lessons are way too cool to ignore. I'm not sure I always follow what you are talking about, but I need to learn how to play like that. Short of signing up for a course, do you have an instruction book that would help me get past my befuddlement?

Is this concept also called the guide tones? Or the guide tones Only imply intervals 3 and 7 ?

Great video, but man I wish you would spend a few more seconds explaining what chords you’re using

It looks like he's using shell voicings, particularly emphasizing the 3 and 7 in the middle strings, but I'm guessing.
