    Moving chords, chord substitutions and walking bass. Love these styles of guitar playing, especially incorporating these techniques into fingerstyle. Tons o' fun. Thanks David. Looking forward to the workshops.

    Really cool and useful stuff David. These old time rhythm players like Freddie and Eldon really knew their inversions and never played the same thing. Awesome!

    Hi David, love these chord voicings (the A minor 6 was a favourite chord of Django R). could you do a
    lesson on Duke Ellington's Aint got nothing but the blues, using these chord voicings? All the best!

      Thanks, Janet! I do love that song, which I'm pretty sure I first heard done by Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald on one of those duet records of theirs.
      And yes, that min6 voicing does show up a lot in gypsy jazz (it's one of my favorites too :-); I did this lesson a long time back on adapting a few of those sounds to fingerstyle blues, which you might enjoy: czcams.com/video/hJhw72aGV-M/video.html

      I think David shows how to play most of these voicings in a couple of his earlier CZcams lessons, "Play the Blues with Freddie Green Voicings" and "Jazz Blues Chord Voicings in E." If you start with those and then come back to this video, what he's doing will probably be easier to follow. (And then if you want to get into Freddie Green voicings in more depth, you might consider signing up for the workshop he mentions towards the end of this video; I've participated in several of David's workshops in the past, and they've all been fantastic.)

      @@jtoddbrown His style is to talk about rather than show or teach. These are not lesson, more like lectures.

    • @mdyerlrb
      @mdyerlrb Před rokem

      There aren't any tabs because this is NOT a lesson. However, I was able to see what he was playing and figured out all the 3 note chords rather easily. I bet you can too.

      @@Blacksmith1959 If you click on the FREE CZcams links above you'll see David's teaching style. You're right, this video was NOT a lesson although I learned a lot from his examples and how/why/when to play them. It is more of an advertisement of an upcoming workshop(s) that he will be teaching. That's why he was showing us what we could learn if we are interested in learning this style of playing. He'll have plenty of examples/tabs to keep us busy for quite awhile. Like @Todd Brown above, I'm a member of David's Fingerstyle Five membership. Over 2 1/2 years now. I HIGHLY recommend it. Give him a try. Afterwards, you might find him to be an actual world-class teacher.
