Every time I see Darryl I think about a tweet Bob Roth made. He said Darryl episodes were more difficult because even though he's a 'troublemaker' he doesn't do anything out of malice. Darryl thinks that his plans are good, even when they end up going poorly. Molly and Darryl are really similar in that way, and that's one of the reasons why they have such a great sibling relationship.

Yeah, they're adorable. I'm glad we're passed that phase of siblings hating each other that was the 90's and 2000's. My relationship with my siblings is also the strogest relationships I have and I love seeing that in media as well.

Honestly I’m starting to wonder if Darryl might have ADHD. to me, he exhibits a couple of traits associated with it and I kind of relate to Darryl in that regard. When I’m off my meds, I can be hyperactive, not focus on stuff, and etc. when Darryl was a ghost for a while, everyone seemed to like the husk of Darryl

I totally think Molly has ADHD, too. They just manifest in different ways; Molly can generally still focus on school work and things like that, but when it comes to… Say… Getting her family out of a locked basement, she’s prone to distraction.

They have such a sweet relationship! I have two younger siblings, and I love them both dearly, so I always love seeing strong sibling relationships. That’s really what makes Gravity Falls so great, Dipper and Mabel have such a strong bond. And if you watch the interviews with Alex and Ariel, you can see exactly where that came from.

As someone who has a twin brother that I have an incredibly close connection to, I find it hilarious how much Molly and Darryl tend to act like we do when doing things with each other or just being supportive. I love dipper and Mabel from gravity falls too, but honestly Darryl and Molly just seem so authentic and I love them ❤
Edit: this is why I adore the episode “a very hungry ghost”. I can guarantee u that their petty sibling rivalry is pretty on point lol

What this show is king at doing is relationships and they follow that to a T! Molly and Darryl have this bond even if there completely different yet the same! Darryl looks up to Molly to at least be like her even if he a bit of a trouble maker and your right not because he a bad kid that just his chaotic personality and yet Molly loves her brother! Molly showed time and time again that she loves her family and it shows in Sunnyland episode that Molly brought Sunnyland home to her family to make them happy even if that…made her…crazy.
He point it I think there relationship is over looked because of the shipping between Mollie which I love to bits but I love platonic relationship too! Molly is Darryl’s bff and Darryl’s is Mollys bff because they grew up together in hard times because the family face poverty. Yes that doesn’t mean they annoy eachother and poke fun that just because there siblings and it adorable and funny.
Something I hope for to see is to see June and Ollie sibling dynamic. One we need more June and two we only got a few interactions with them and Ollie mentioned June a few times. And Darryl’s and June friendship because we didn’t really get to see that as much.I’m so excited to see how this season goes and see more of Molly and Darryl!
A cool video idea is if we get more of June and Ollie you can talk about there sibling dynamic! It just think that will be cool 😁

I remember a lot of TV shows really plaid in to the stereotype when it came to creating characters.
    Girls are dumb
    Siblings never get along
    men are stupid
women only like hair and phones and shopping
    etc
I feel like modern shows have moved away from this and shown that families , people who are different etc can get along.
Aundrea for example could have been the next Six LeMuere, Kimmy Gibbler, Elle Woods, Nellie Oleson , Beebe Bluff, Veruca Salt, Pacifica North West for you younger people who have no clue what Im on about. But they made her a deeply complex character.
Scratch has a Statler and Waldorf quality but they could have made him more like Bloo or Johnny Test or Timmy Turner or Miss Finster but they make scratch some one likable and fun to care about and with out being a clone of Stan Pines or Eda either. He's even different from Slimer or Monterey Jack who are known for eating. He has a lot more going on for him.
if this was written like the old shows Molly could have easily been the 80s Webby Vanderquack or like Bubbles from Powerpuff Girls or like Pinkie Pie but they took that personality and made it interesting.
modern shows have broken the stereotype and gone off in new directions .
Even Loud House started off with 10 stenotypes but each of the sisters over time evolved to be far more complex.
in contrast , Patrick Star is a synoptical dumb character. Characters who held that roll and came before him were way more interesting.
Parents in cartoons are better too. they actually do parenting. and also they are alive. Much approved over Rugrats or Fairy Odd Parents.

Disney TVA actually posted a clip from the Proud Family reboot yesterday where Penny gets locked out of the house by her mom because she broke curfew and lied about homework. I always thought Oscar was an abusive father, but turns out Trudy’s actually an abusive mother, too! They did a good job updating a lot for the reboot, but the core dynamics of the show are so broken. Penny’s family is abusive, and her friends are awful.
Like, could you imagine Sharon locking one of her kids out of the house like that??

So for your neurodiverse video, I'm worried about how they are writing June. For one thing, her family moves around with startling regularity and from what I've seen (from the episodes on Disney+) they leave when the ghosts are long, and not on a set schedule. One of the main traits of autism is strict adherence to a schedule. I used to freak out when my parents moved the living room furniture around. She should not be taking the new house so calm, and her parents should leave her at a grandparent's house and have her ship the tech through the mail. There was also that scene where June is introduced and accidentally insulted the turnips, and then her mom makes her apologize and she says that she is autistic as a way of an explanation. For other rude characters like Scratch and Andrea (and Darrel? Nin?), we as the audience are introduced to them first with their good qualities and then their negative qualities. With June we are introduced with a negative quality and then the writers immediately shut down any arc potential by making it a core part of her identity. They could have introduced the Chens in a car scene like with the Magees. My other problem with that line is that it puts the locus of control out of June's hands because it doesn't frame it in a way that she has any control over how she reacts to the world. Something tangential is that autistic girls are better at masking, which is where they know that certain reactions garner certain responses even if they don't know why. Another part of masking is looking at someone's nose or eyebrows instead of making eye contact, so it's sort of weird that she's looking in the completely opposite direction of people's faces a lot of the time. Now I'm not saying that there couldn't be a person who is a girl and has June-like traits, it's just that this is the first time that a lot of these kids will be introduced to the concept of autism in girls and so it would probably be more logical to go traditional. They might have gone this route because girls don't get diagnosed as much because they know how to hide it better, and so having a more boyish approach (and special interest) would better explain how she got a diagnosis so young? Another thing I hear about is that some people are offended by autistic-coded characters being good at tech stuff. I don't have a problem with it myself, but they could have gone more creative with what specifically she's good at or implemented it in a unique way. I'm not sure if they develop her personality beyond autistic and the family business, but I haven't seen the more recent episodes.

    • @SunnylandProds
      @SunnylandProds  Před 10 měsíci +2

We still haven’t seen a lot of June yet, but what little we’ve seen of her is great.
Her family didn’t actually move, though, it was a road trip they did for their CZcams channel.
As for the schedule thing, it’s possible that is a factor and we just haven’t seen that, or maybe not. I’m on the spectrum, and I don’t have that.

@@SunnylandProds I like The Ghost and Molly McGee, but I don't love it so I might spend more time critiquing it than singing its praises because I want to know why I feel the way I do about it.
June has the potential to be a great character and I think this team has the ability to pull it off, it's just if they don't progress June beyond what they've established I think that could be a waste. As of now, her role seems to be to make tech for her family and there's not much room for her to have her own arc... she seems like the kind of person who will just follow whatever the group says about ghosts. She might make her own informed conclusion but that might make Ollie less special since they are setting up for him to come around as the main plot.
(It might not be fair for me to compare June to Donnie from Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.)
I'm autistic and I have a little bit of the schedule thing, but I guess it's one of the main traits I think of because my sister really needs things to be on a schedule or she'll have a meltdown and so that trait has shaped my life to an extent. It's true that June may not be like that.
