    Something that helped me huge was actually having the width between bindings just more than shoulder width. I had the wrong idea when I was learning that a wider stance meant more stability, but the closer my feet were to the contact points at the end of the camber shape, the more I'd catch edges. Let the board balance you out, not your wide stance!

  • @jangalaba4626
    @jangalaba4626 Před rokem +2

    Another thing for width of bindings. Bend your leg 90 degrees and measure from the ball of your foot to the top of the knee. Most likely wont exactly line up to the holes, but pick the closest one

  • @ryanweddle6745
    @ryanweddle6745 Před rokem +3

    For width and angles, I usually have them do a squat like at the gym on the board. Put the bindings right there. That's a good starting point. Then strap in at home and feel it out. The arm thing is cool though. I've never seen that.

    • @szaret1
      @szaret1 Před rokem

      What’s so cool about it? There’s no logic to it at all. Same height people have different arm lengths. It makes no sense

    • @ryanweddle6745
      @ryanweddle6745 Před rokem +2

      @@szaret1 I guess it's just a starting point. Most people are the same height as their arm span. I'd still use the squat method I pointed out above.

    • @szaret1
      @szaret1 Před rokem +1

      @@ryanweddle6745 Squat method makes the most sense if you want to get a rough estimate because you're actually performing the squat action. But even that you have to do in boots with bidings on because you' squat differently barefoot than all strapped in. The only way is to experiment. Narrow it down to 3 stances and cycle between those. Giving a few runs or hours to each, maybe even going back to some. Whatever you gotta do until you find that aha moment. But not measure your elbow to hand lol. Common now

  • @gageinoc
    @gageinoc Před rokem +7

    Sick tips Kevin! Nidecker has a video on stance width that I found pretty helpful when I was getting started! They say that to measure from the center of your knee-cap to the floor (edit: without your boot on) to get your “natural” stance width, then to adjust based on riding style

    • @szaret1
      @szaret1 Před rokem +3

      Maybe as a starting point but you gotta try different widths to find your stance. I’m the same height as my buddy but when we sit down he is taller. His torso is longer, my legs are longer. We don’t have the same preferred stances widths and we experimented. You gotta try different widths, it’s the only way

    • @gageinoc
      @gageinoc Před rokem

      @@szaret1 eaxactly.. you’re legs are different lengths, meaning the distance from the knee to the floor is different for each of you.. meaning you would more than likely prefer different stance widths
      If all of the other variables between you and your buddy are relatively similar (weight, preferred stance angles, and riding style) I would be willing to bet money that since you have longer legs, you probably use a wider stance than your buddy does

    • @szaret1
      @szaret1 Před rokem

      @@gageinoc I’m sure in a lot of cases you’re right…. I’m 165lbs 6ft. He’s 175 5”11. My hip line is like 3 inches above his so yea my knee to foot length is longer but I ride a narrower stance. It make sense because I’m thinner of waist. For me to widen my legs would be more difficult for me. Come to think of it, it would make sense if stance width had to do with the width of your hip sockets.
      Anyway my point is the only way to truly know is try. Weight distribution, shoulder widths, strength, all this has to do with what stance width you prefer. You can’t just measure your elbow to your forearm or knee to foot lol that’s just some shit people say.

      I got some tips. Ankle steering...try using nothing your ankles or feet to transition from heel edge to toe edge. Bend your knees and hips but focus on only lifting your toes/heels to get on edge. Also mess around with your hips. Ride and turn with your hip over your front leg. This will help alot since most people start out riding back dominant. Advanced riders initiate each turn with their front foot

I have a Large binding with a size 11.5 us boot. When i try to center the whole thing.. i get a slight overhang of the gaspedal as well. I've seen several other movies where they say that it can touch the edge but never overhang? what's your take on the issue? thanks in advance!

    Very good, did not know about the binding adjustments and highback angle. Is there a different function for different highback settings or is positive 6 degrees something you should always use?

    • @Proffesor_Z
      @Proffesor_Z Před 8 měsíci

      There’s never anything you should use based on what someone else uses. I would venture to say that the starting high back angle is a bit lackadaisical, as he mentioned.
      But realistically it’s something you’d have to try for yourself.

    I’ve heard three or four different ways on how to mount your bindings. One guy says to measure from the ground to the middle of your knee and that’s how wide they should be, and he saying you should measure from your fist to your elbow which one is it?

    Well, I'm struggling with a different problem- I have exact same bindings as yours + Burton Ruler Boa Boots, and I have no idea how to tighten/ strap the bindings. They feel either too loose, and there's too much movement, or I get to the point, where they hold my boots properly, but it's so tight that I can't feel my feet after 5 minutes...

    but dude. directional riding isnt for everyone, it heavily emphasizes carving and offpiste / backcountry over park riding. just feel like you overshadowed the entire video by uptalking directional riding. Personally I ride directional, and have a fish and a flexy directional twin, and I find the flexy directional twin a much more "fun" ride. the Fish is easier in all aspects except park, but yeah you get my drift. "easy" shouldnt be a goal here. simple should be. cause its simple. just strap in and go, find out what you like, then do that. dont go directional cause some guy told you to (cause its easier)
