Size and shape of board depends on what type of riding you are doing (park, all mountain, powder etc). Flex of the board needs to be considered as a newer rider should get a mellow to medium flex for easier turning and more forgiving. Also consider where you live. I live in utah and the snow is lighter so I ride a shorter board in powder than I would in the Pacific Northwest which is wetter and heavier snow. Also I always thought a midwide is more 10.5 boot size rather than a wide board. If your a newer rider get the narrowest board you can without toe drag so that you will have an easier time transitioning from heel to toe for turning. Camber profile is important too. I like camber boards for the pop, power out of turns and handling at speed but I usually have a little rise at the tips and tail for a little better powder float and forgiveness. Some companies call this camrock. Hit up a local shop and talk to the kids on their recommendations and read up on whatever type of board your going to buy. Also some mountains have demo days so take advantage of that if you can.
I don't think this is an issue now, but if you're going for the jacket + pants fastening combos to prevent snow getting in your pants, make sure they are compatible. Volcom is pretty universal with their patented zip tech for years now. Bonfire changed their enclosure, so my old jacket wouldn't snap onto the new pants.
So I usually enjoy fast, and sharp line carving. I weight 92kg (202lbs) at 181cm (5,11 ft). I had a Nitro Suprateam 159 2020 witch was amazing and fast but I felt I outgrew it at some point. Just got a 166w Nitro Pantera board. I know that its wider than what I should ride since I have a 44 boot (10,5) but Im mainly intrested on going fast and staying stable while hitting chatter or runing over skiers.
You are right for saying that following the size charts for board length is a good idea, but it really boils down to personal preference. For example, my first board when I was still figuring out how to ride was a stiff 161 camber board for piste and since I weigh 70 kg, board facts tell me this board isn't for me. But I learned and yeah, it was tough, but now I can carve almost like a boss after just one month of riding! The learning curve was steep, but you truly progress when you're out of your comfort zone! Oh, and that board is stable af! Love it

What I did to ensure compatibility (which may not hold true all the time idk) was buy the same brand of board, bindings and boots. They fit flawlessly together which is nice as this is my first season ever and I'm learning about snowboards

Got to ask about goggles and helmets - why does most snowboarders I see wear the goggles underneath their helmets? Personally, I have always used helmets with clips in the neck to hold the goggles and cushions over my ears. Meaning I have never had to use a beanie underneath (for unprotected ears?) or goggles under my helmet. Most goggles today also have this silicone-ribbons inside so you safely can tuck them up your forehead on the helmet at the after-ski parties.
Biggest gear mistake ive ever made happened when i mis matched my boots. It was my first season on step ons but i mixed up my boots and had one step on and one non step on boot. I ended hiring boots and bindings for a day and met the legend @chuck van but boy it really wasnt a good day.
Oh no! I think remember you telling that story on one of the live chats. Must have been so frustrating to only have one step on. Meeting Chuck Van makes up for it though!
@@Bad_Riders That sucks! I would have kept the step on boot and binding for that side and then just swap out the binding for the boot without stepon. Borrow a mate's who hopefully has a 2nd pair. If the step on is on the front foot...... Time to make switch riding your regular riding ;)

Picked up a snowboard for $70 at a pawnshop it just happened to be the right size board & bindings, just needs waxing & one of the tips needs a little edge work done! Can't wait to get back on the mountain!
The cool kids have started doing goggles over helmet without the beanie it seems. Likely something to do with MIPS and BOA’s dialling in the fit. Just an observation from the past Olympics.

I am a beginner intermediate meaning that yeah I can get down the mountain, I’m just not comfortable doing it. My first year I went up like 15 times and it’s dwindled down to about 6 times over the last 5 years. Should I get a beginner board or something more intermediate? Will I have fun on a beginner board or should I advance and that what would make me more confident? Right now I’m using a used board that was in good condition when i bought it, I wish I knew more about it but I don’t. I just want something new.
I would say if you are still not comfortable getting down the mountain. I would lean more towards beginner. Something more forgiving will help when you go riding and it’s been a while. A less forgiving board might be more unruly. Now you can always get a nicer higher quality beginner/intermediate board. That in itself will probably make more of a difference. Also getting a board designed for your perfected riding style will make more of a difference than just getting an advanced board

Made the goggle mistake last year. Dropped $300 on the SMITH IO Mag just to realize on the mountain that wind goes right up through the nose due to poor fit. Don’t be me.
Wearing helmet on beanie is number one mistake. Helmet safety drops down if you wear like this, i understand that it could be comfortable for you, but you should't promote this.
I’m ngl ppl always think they need to buy a 300$ jacket for the temperatures up there and although it’s cold, you’re moving a lot and if the suns out you’re gonna get hot it’s inevitable especially if you have one of those jackets. Just something to take into consideration I usually jus wear a thermal and a flannel and I’m warm thought the whole day on most days

yeah I weigh 200 I got a 159 wide but im 5'5 so It felt way to big and I fell on my tailbone and had to go to the hospital I couldn't sit properly for 2 months so I sold all my equipment and I regret it because now I want to learn how to snowboard again but I don't have one RIP
The sizing table from Bataleon says i can ride a 154 and a 151. But I am not sure which one to choose. I am only 5 lbs away from the higher limit of my weight range on the 151cm. And right in the middle of the range for the 154 cm. Do you think it will make a better difference to get the 151 for less weight and more manageable movement? I ride Bataleon too, their recommendations really come down to your style and preference- you’d be fine with either. Size down to 151 if you’re spending a lot of time in the park, on rails, buttering, etc. Smaller so less top speed but easier to press and flex. Size up if youre doing more all mountain charging, less flex and longer edges means more grip and stability at high speeds, etc. i ride a lobster eiki 151 (exact same board as bataleons disaster) for park, switch, butters, etc and a 154 bataleon surfer for hard charging big carves powder and bowl riding. Personally I always think its better to size down and wish I got my surfer in the 149 but it was sold out, so I might recommend 151 for you. Im 5’11 150lbs size 9.5 boot for context

I am 5'7 ft (171 cm) and weight 170 lbs (78 kg) for context. I just don't want to be washing out/sliding when trying to stop because my weight is almost at the top limit of the recommend weight. But my preference is also a shorter board; the only thing is that I don't like it to be shaking too much when going down hill building up speed!
@@lordcomas given your weight, i would probably recommend the 154. Youll likely overpower and 151 and wash it out a lot. I looked on the website and the size recommendation was 154 or 157. It looks like the beyond medals version is also a stiffer flex at 6/10 vs the regular whatever at 4/10 so even if 154 is the smaller recommended board for your weight class it should still be decently stiff and hold an edge really well as youre charging groomers. It looks like they also offer it in 156 wide which you may want to investigate if you have a 10.5+ size boot so you dont catch any toe or heel drags like referenced in the video. Hope this helps, bataleons are super sick and a lot of fun to ride!
You’d be fine with either or. If your more into groomers go for the 154. I’m 5ft9 and weigh 190 but I ride a 151 neversummer funslinger. I’m in the park 90% of the time tho but am able to do pretty much w/e with the 151 even tho I’m a nice chunk over the weight suggested for that size board. I got a 154 monster promotional board I use if I need something with a little less flex but I almost never swap them out.
Hello, I know its been a year but i could use some help! Im 85kg 186cm shoe size 46-47eu. What kind of a board should i get? I had a 165cm board and quite liked it but i gor a feeling my toe scrapes the snow a bit 😅
What do you do about boots that you know should fit but are squeezing the sides behind your toes? I've been using the same size in the rentals since I started boarding but I finally got my own pair and they are too tight and causing pain on the sides. Should I just do something to break them in or could it be a brand issue? I don't want to go up a size if they are going to break in and then be too loose.
this is a tough one, have you tried the same size but a different brand when in store? You could have more room over time but for me it's more around the heel area rather than toes
@@inmotion_snow yeah, these are the first brand I bought. I was told they were a good brand to get. It's a problem in the width based on what part of the foot hurts (like if you took you hand and started squeezing your foot behind the toes). I'm worried that if I go through everything to return and get a larger pair then they will be too loose and cause injury once they are broken in. And they aren't cheap so it's not like I can just buy multiple pairs and say oh well

Once you choose one you its not sustainable to swap it mid season, but you wont know how it feels until you ride it a few times... personally ive always stuck with a pair that didnt give me any pain from Day 0, regardless of how it would break in, and later i just got the liners packed at the heel of my front foot as it was coming loose.
Funny story. Read it all. Jerry here. Didn’t want to go through rentals for boots last week, (my first time snowboarding)-I wanted to taste the mountain immediately. Instead, I bought a pair at the resort, knowing I’d always yearn for shred. They had one 9.5 black pair of thirty twos (I’m a 10). I bought them happily. My steezy experienced friends loved them. My toes felt crammed and they were in pain. But, as my friends said, “They are new boots, that happens sometimes when you break them in.” I wasn’t going to be a jerry and a complainer-but my pigs were bacon. I could not feel them. I was forced to walk on my heels. I brought up my excruciating pain casually from time to time. But, then I reached my breaking point and said, “there is no way you all feel like this right now.” I left the resort with a smile on my face, researching which board to buy (Lobster Creamer 23), after demonstrating increased confidence and execution following each run. While walking to the car, the dopamine rush from looking at which snow board to buy numbed me temporarily. Finally, in my Birkenstocks, I regained circulation, they looked 80 years old. All close and one on top of the other. We packed up and started driving home. As we reflected on our day on the mountain, I noticed a conspicuous letter on my shoe box-the letter W. Why did the clerk not say anything? It wasn’t advertised at all. She watched me try them on. I thought boots were just hard to get into. I crammed into like a size 7 dude. And yes, it blows in the wind when I’m going down the slope so don’t you make a foot joke🥸. We were dying laughing at the whole situation. Excited for more runs in safe boots tomorrow .
I bought some pants and jacket online (unfortunately there are no snow equipments shops close to where I live) I normally wear M and I ordered M for both pants and jacket (Volcom) but everything looks really large, the jacket almost ends on my knees and my pants are large in the waist even if I use the velcro adjustment. Is this normal? Shoud I go for smaller sizes?
Size doesn't matter, it's matching the flex to your weight and riding style. I'm 5`11, 170 and rarely ride anything shorter than 160. I have a Endeavor high 5 165W that is rated at 180-220 and it borderline feels too soft. You can't rely on weight and flex from the companies they are all different. Obviousely I'm not riding park.
Goggles need to go over your helmet. putting them under is a safety risk and you wont have a proper fit. Just cause it looks cooler doesnt mean it works

For me the goggles fit better to my face when the strap goes under the helmet. Also, I don’t like the ear cushions because I can’t hear as well than with a beanie.
@@SnowboardProCamp I feel like this should be a major point in your helmet reviews and suggestions. I mean even the companies agree you shouldn't run goggles and beanies under your helmet. I know this is a personal preference, but you never mention it when trying on different helmets. Feel like these reviews can be more helpful to customers if you include over and under fits.

gotta buy the helmet/goggle combo from the same company! i ride with the Smith Maze helmet and Smith I/O Mag goggles and it is the perfect set up

Personally I always think its better to size down and wish I got my surfer in the 149 but it was sold out, so I might recommend 151 for you. Im 5’11 150lbs size 9.5 boot for context
@@jcsul15 thanks for your response Jcsul15. I normally do resort-groomed-slopes 98% of the time... I am an intermediate rider, but never got into jumps or tricks. I am 5'7 ft (171 cm) and weight 170 lbs (78 kg) for context. I just don't want to be washing out/sliding when trying to stop because my weight is almost at the top limit of the recommend weight. But my preference is also a shorter board; the only thing is that I don't like it to be shaking too much when going down hill building up speed!
@@lordcomas given your weight, i would probably recommend the 154. Youll likely overpower and 151 and wash it out a lot. I looked on the website and the size recommendation was 154 or 157. It looks like the beyond medals version is also a stiffer flex at 6/10 vs the regular whatever at 4/10 so even if 154 is the smaller recommended board for your weight class it should still be decently stiff and hold an edge really well as youre charging groomers. It looks like they also offer it in 156 wide which you may want to investigate if you have a 10.5+ size boot so you dont catch any toe or heel drags like referenced in the video. You’d be fine with either or. If your more into groomers go for the 154. I’m 5ft9 and weigh 190 but I ride a 151 neversummer funslinger. I’m in the park 90% of the time tho but am able to do pretty much w/e with the 151 even tho I’m a nice chunk over the weight suggested for that size board. I got a 154 monster promotional board I use if I need something with a little less flex but I almost never swap them out.
How much heel or toe overhang is allowed on a board?

What do you do about boots that you know should fit but are squeezing the sides behind your toes? I've been using the same size in the rentals since I started boarding but I finally got my own pair and they are too tight and causing pain on the sides. Should I just do something to break them in or could it be a brand issue? I don't want to go up a size if they are going to break in and then be too loose.
this is a tough one, have you tried the same size but a different brand when in store? You could have more room over time but for me it's more around the heel area rather than toes
@@inmotion_snow yeah, these are the first brand I bought. I was told they were a good brand to get. It's a problem in the width based on what part of the foot hurts (like if you took you hand and started squeezing your foot behind the toes). I'm worried that if I go through everything to return and get a larger pair then they will be too loose and cause injury once they are broken in. And they aren't cheap so it's not like I can just buy multiple pairs and say oh well

Once you choose one you its not sustainable to swap it mid season, but you wont know how it feels until you ride it a few times... personally ive always stuck with a pair that didnt give me any pain from Day 0, regardless of how it would break in, and later i just got the liners packed at the heel of my front foot as it was coming loose.

Funny story. Read it all. Jerry here. Didn’t want to go through rentals for boots last week, (my first time snowboarding)-I wanted to taste the mountain immediately. Instead, I bought a pair at the resort, knowing I’d always yearn for shred. They had one 9.5 black pair of thirty twos (I’m a 10). I bought them happily. My steezy experienced friends loved them. My toes felt crammed and they were in pain. But, as my friends said, “They are new boots, that happens sometimes when you break them in.” I wasn’t going to be a jerry and a complainer-but my pigs were bacon. I could not feel them. I was forced to walk on my heels. I brought up my excruciating pain casually from time to time. But, then I reached my breaking point and said, “there is no way you all feel like this right now.” I left the resort with a smile on my face, researching which board to buy (Lobster Creamer 23), after demonstrating increased confidence and execution following each run. While walking to the car, the dopamine rush from looking at which snow board to buy numbed me temporarily. Finally, in my Birkenstocks, I regained circulation, they looked 80 years old. All close and one on top of the other. We packed up and started driving home. As we reflected on our day on the mountain, I noticed a conspicuous letter on my shoe box-the letter W. Why did the clerk not say anything? It wasn’t advertised at all. She watched me try them on. I thought boots were just hard to get into. I crammed into like a size 7 dude. And yes, it blows in the wind when I’m going down the slope so don’t you make a foot joke🥸. We were dying laughing at the whole situation. Excited for more runs in safe boots tomorrow .

I bought some pants and jacket online (unfortunately there are no snow equipments shops close to where I live)
I normally wear M and I ordered M for both pants and jacket (Volcom) but everything looks really large, the jacket almost ends on my knees and my pants are large in the waist even if I use the velcro adjustment. Is this normal? Shoud I go for smaller sizes?
For snowboarding larger is always better! Especially if you layer anything underneath

Size doesn't matter, it's matching the flex to your weight and riding style. I'm 5`11, 170 and rarely ride anything shorter than 160. I have a Endeavor high 5 165W that is rated at 180-220 and it borderline feels too soft. You can't rely on weight and flex from the companies they are all different. Obviousely I'm not riding park.
Goggles need to go over your helmet. putting them under is a safety risk and you wont have a proper fit. Just cause it looks cooler doesnt mean it works

Hi all! Season is coming soon! Superstoked and excited, will visit the European alps this year. Got to ask about goggles and helmets - why does most snowboarders I see wear the goggles underneath their helmets? Personally, I have always used helmets with clips in the neck to hold the goggles and cushions over my ears. Meaning I have never had to use a beanie underneath (for unprotected ears?) or goggles under my helmet. Most goggles today also have this silicone-ribbons inside so you safely can tuck them up your forehead on the helmet at the after-ski parties.
For me the goggles fit better to my face when the strap goes under the helmet. Also, I don’t like the ear cushions because I can’t hear as well than with a beanie.
@@SnowboardProCamp I feel like this should be a major point in your helmet reviews and suggestions. I mean even the companies agree you shouldn't run goggles and beanies under your helmet. I know this is a personal preference, but you never mention it when trying on different helmets. Feel like these reviews can be more helpful to customers if you include over and under fits.
