I love Chicago. I visited in November for their Christmas market and a dinner boat tour. It was awesome.
Bill - love the short form content. You're lucky you're there when it's OK. As a 30+ year resident of Chicago - you can count on 1 weeks per year of "Chiberia" where the windchill is -40. Other than that - it's usually not too terrible, but people always remember that week.

I totally agree. It's not that bad in the winter. Most cold weather cities are not as cold as it used to be years ago. I've been there fir tge last couple of Xmas holidays and it was fine.

I've been in just about every top 20 major city my population with 1 or two exceptions. Chicago is way too cold, I was just there two weeks ago. No one is trying to walk around Chicago when its 5 below.

@@Hack_The_Planet_ ?? yeah, I was visiting in November and I took the green line south, then got out and walked around from like 8pm-11pm before I made my way back to another station. it was longer than 30 minutes but I don't think it was a big deal. my phone died on the L. I actually was at a bar/restaurant and their menus were on a QR code, so I had to ask them for a physical menu in order to place any orders that night

Yea but maybe the murder rates are a bigger problem than it gets cold sometimes. In 2021 they were at 30 murders per 100,000 citizens, which is a fairly big number for a large U.S. city. For context New York city is usually around 7 per 100,000.

People doing go to Chicago because it’s the most dangerous city in America (aka highest murder rate), not because it’s cold. Lots of great qualities, can’t deny that one though. Rebrand all you want, won’t change that.

All anyone says about any city any more is how dangerous and dirty and shitty it is, and sure it’s probably at least partially true about most places but there’s also great parts about pretty much everywhere too. Says more about the media than the actual cities
You want to visit a city and be a tourist, visit all the hot spots, then it's pretty cool. Live there and yeah, you'll know it sucks.

Being so fucking doomer about problems like crime and folks going homeless just makes it so u want to leave and go somewhere else instead of actually dealing with the issues that also inevitably exist in whatever town u wanna pack up and move to.
