Since February, the Mavs are the 4th ranked defense and the Clippers are the 25th.
Since March 7th, 1st ranked defense over TWolves by 3 points.
Luka - Kyrie - DJJ - PJ - Gafford starting lineup has had the best defensive rating of anyone since the all star break.
This is not the same team and not the same identity that the media continues to ignore.
He's talking about playoff basketball and timely stops and the Clippers has two of the best two way players in league history.

Also, the playoffs are more of a half-court game. So if you believe that the Mavs are more likely to get a key defensive stop than the Claw and PG then you're smoking some strong stuff.

Shaq always mention THJ just goes to show he never watches the games of Dallas after trade deadline. It is Exum, PJ, DJJ who got the minutes of THJ and the three are performing very well. Meanwhile, Gafford being a more tougher Center making them more deadlier

Inwatch all of them but to be fair thj needs to hit more shots. He has more shot attempts than exum but exum makes more meaningful shots than thj. If thu starts hitting consistent meaningful shots then they would always have a significant lead in the rotations. But if he doesn’t it might be the reason why clippers can tie the games and possiby win but in my opinion if the clippers now and dallas now stay consistent as a team the dallas has shown more promise to win the series in my opinion
I completely agree with you and had the same reaction when Shaq mentioned him again, but I also do feel that THJ has fallen off pretty hard since getting off to a great start this season. If he gets it rolling again and manages to have a big series, or at least puts up consistent numbers, that would be a blessing and a huge load off of (or just great support to) Luka and KAI offensively.

@codyryan6664-This is a tired take, respectfully, lol. Chuck might ramble and repeat himself like a senile old man, but more often than not he’s speaking the truth or otherwise making strong points. Kenny just talks to talk a lot of the time (you can literally see his brain Chat-GTPing a string of thoughts together in real-time when Ernie turns to him for input), and while Shaq also has good takes, his bias gets the best of him a lot and he’ll just be super petty or dig in his heels during arguments for what feels like no reason sometimes.

Different animal in playoffs. Clippers are much more experienced and have beaten the Mavs in every meeting. Mavs have no one that can guard Kawhi, PG-13, Russ, nor Harden. Garfod can’t guard Zu pick & roll either.

Consistency is the key. The last 20 games the Mavs defended consistently and among the top if not the top defensive team, mostly healthy, better and more consistent in depth. Their ceiling is high because of Luka and Kyrie but their floor now is among the elites because of their defence. This is a different Mavs compared to the last time they met in the playoffs. Maxi Kleber, a bench player, was their best defender that year. And now they also have PJ Washington, DJones, Gafford, hopefully Lively to anchor the defense. With Exum and Green pressing against the point of attack, the Mavs are far off from how they were the last time, when their next better defenders were Dorian Finney Smith, and Porzingis who averaged 5 rebounds for a big guy in that series. Now they have a proven Kyrie in place of a young Brunson as well.

This Mavericks team clicks. Of course the two superstars are going to do what they do. But Exum has been great in the guard rotation. The big man rotation of D-live and Gafford has been the inside presence Luka needed. And PJ has been fantastic on defense. With shooters like THJ and now with Josh Green coming back, I’m thinking the Mavs are a lot scarier than people think.

I was in Bud Walton Arena for most of the games that Daniel Gafford played there. The guy was unstoppable in college. He got a raw deal getting drafted to the Bulls and then traded to the Wizards. He also got kind of a raw deal in college, he had to single-handedly carry the Hogs in most games. I'm so happy to see him contributing in a big way to a good team a mere 4 hours from his hometown. If there's anyone in the NBA that deserves a little success, it's Gafford.

The Clips can defense a perimeter-oriented team and the Mavs has 2 premier point guards, so it will be a long series for sure. T-Mann, PG and Kawhi along with Russ, even PJ Tucker will be thrown in to slow down Luka and Kyrie, so the question now is can they exploit Zubac on Pick and roll? If they can then i would say the Mavs can win it in 6. On the other hand, both Kyrie and Luka will be picked in every possession to wear them down further on offense, which in a long series can be impactful at the end.

None of these guys seem to be aware the Mavericks are one of the best defensive teams in the league since the trade deadline and certainly over the last 20 games of the season they are absolutely transformed as a team.

This series is dependent on which Clippers team will take the court. Mental focus and consistency has always been the issue with the Clippers.

I really hope Kawhi and the clippers pull through! I feel like this entire series is going to depend on PG’s performance, which has been a major factor in determining their wins and losses this season. Same for Zubac this season, he has improved a ton since last year.

Both of these teams are stacked and at their peak form since we know the Clippers (especially Kawhi) are going to turn it up. The Dallas squad are playing the best basketball I've watched in a while and are on par with the Nuggets. This is the best match up of the whole playoffs, and I'm glad we got it in the first round honestly. Something tells me that Luka is gonna average 40 point triple double tho

this is a very different series this season, all previous times Kawhi and Doncic were pretty close in regard of what they are capable of, this time Doncic is clear and I believe that Kyrie is also clear of PG for second option, Harden and Westbrook need to step up, but dallas has a deep team, also center rotation for dallas is much much better than any previous series
I feel like Jaden Hardy will have at least two great games in the playoffs. Kidd doesn’t play him much but whenever he puts him in he’s pretty consistent especially with his midrange shots he doesn’t try to do too much.
He's not consistent at all, that's why he doesn't play more. I mean THJ certainly isn't consistent either, but even he's not as eratic as Hardy at times.
luka by himself been owning clippers and add kyrie to that team with the trade they made they are the favorites. clippers heavily depending on kawhi and russ to give them energy.

Luka is 18-7 vs. Kawhi is his career. How does he own them? When the Mavs faced the Clippers one year in the playoffs, they had the number one rated offense in league history with Brunson and Porzingis. Let that sink in…
The Mavs since March 1st have beaten only Denver… lost to all other playoff teams. They’ve had easy competition which has inflated their numbers and metrics.
Also, Ty Lue knows how to coach against heliocentric players. That’s why they always have beaten Luka, and why the Clippers have dominated Bron and the Lakers.
Everybody keeps saying this isn’t the same Mavs team from the start of the season… well this isn’t the same Clipper team from years ago. They’ve added TWO HALL OF FAMERS. And if you think Russ is about to let Kyrie ball him up, you’re sleep. Remember, Russ was guarding DURANT in the Suns series last year. Kawhi always locks up Luka when he’s on him. I believe Luka shoots 40% when guarded by Kawhi. Every time the Clippers switch up their defense and put Kawhi on Luka, the game changes.
It’s not about the role players in the playoffs. It’s about the Superstars, and the Clippers have more with more experience, and a better coach. We won’t really see how this series will play out until like game 2, but everybody saying the Mavs are for sure going to win have not realized the Mavs have had one of the easiest schedules post all star break whereas the Clippers have had one of the hardest AND still remained top 4 with injuries.
Oh, and Kyrie has been terrible in the playoffs for a few seasons now, so good luck.

You made a few good points AND a few bad ones. Russ has never been a winner in this league. Now, he's old and slowing down. Harden is old too, and has never been anything in the playoffs. PG folded during the last series against the Mavs, but the team around him was deeper and better than Luka's team. Luka has NEVER had a legitimate rim protecting center in his entire career, much less anyone as good as Kyrie beside him.
I do think this is going to be a close series though. On paper, the Mavs should win in 6 or 7 games, but nobody plays on paper. I just hope both teams are healthy and play great basketball. When the gladiator asks "Are you entertained!?" I want to be able to say "YES!!"

Luka always shows up against the clippers; i think it comes down to whether kawhi and pg are good, and whether harden stays stable. The clippers are underrated because they are so inconsistent; if they can get it together they can win.

No team has been able to stop Luka in the playoffs. Especially the Clippers. This season Luka has a train load of help, that very few "analysts" don't consider as much defensively. They're going to surprise a lot of people.

Ignoring matchups for a moment, when 33 and 34 year old stars meet truly top younger players in the playoffs, players who are close to their usually peak, age 26 and age 27 seasons, the win generally goes to the younger player. I don't think the matchup is as bad for the Mavs as it was in 2020 and 2021 to begin with, but being the younger (and not too young anymore) team can be a huge factor. The Clippers might be deeper now, but they are also much older. Obviously Kawhi's health is even more important, if he cannot play, or isn't effective, this should be an easy wrap.

it all goes down to who is more consistent on both sides of the court. for now Mavs is more consistent than the Clippers. Shaq is right, it depends on what version of clippers shows up. We'll see.
