I'm in a similar situation. For me, the overwhelming part is the papers-my mom kept boxes of letters and she was also a teacher.

@@catfancier270LOL do I know about that! Mom was a devoted teacher and there are scads of books/workbooks for all kinds of topics! Never mind her notes on it and papers from school etc. this is besides keeping every single solicitation for her many donations which really adds up useless paper to sift thru to find useful stuff!

It took 3 months for me to be appointed executor, and during that time, a family member was living in the house, and changed the locks and wouldn't let me in. In that 3 months, she cleaned out anything she wanted, loaded it in a moving van in the middle of the night, and was gone.
When I showed up with a locksmith to gain entry to the house, she was there, stealing MORE things from the house! She actually called the police because she was scared, but claimed it was because she couldn't find her car keys and didn't know the man in the locksmith truck. A huge load of BS! The police found her keys IN HER CAR. Of course, there's nothing I can do about all of the things that she took, because I have no proof. These situations can turn VERY nasty very quickly.

I'm sorry, that is a really difficult situation to be in, and I've seen it many times. Good job getting the locks changed! I hope that the rest of the experience runs smoothly for you. Thank you for watching a commenting.
