    Light made a huge mistake by killing Raye Penber. Penber had already concluded that Light wasn't Kira, and he probably reported this to his superiors. His dying right after he was tailing a suspect is highly suspicious, and I believe one of the main reasons L suspected that Light was Kira. If he had allowed Penber to live, it would have cast some doubt on Light's guilt.

    “Farewell Ray Penber.”
    A creepy but memorable moment.

  • @forgototherpassword
    @forgototherpassword Před měsícem +28

    I have three thoughts on this, regarding other effects you might not have considered:
    First: Raye Penber's death, and having him kill other important members of the task force, was the first innocent blood Light spilled. If he managed to avoid doing that, it could have had some massive butterfly effects not only on the investigation, but also on Light's own actions, as up to that point, everyone he'd killed had been a criminal. It's possible that this fact could have been used to throw the task force off, maybe by BSing through his kills that he can only kill the "wicked" or "sinful." This could be done the same way he sent earlier messages: by having his victims write them in blood before they die.
    Second: Misa's tapes had tons of fingerprints on them, and the international investigation would have no reason to believe that she isn't the original Kira. It's also very possible that this could lead to her being a fugitive on the run, and she might not meet Light. With a clear suspect being pursued, Light would likely be flying under the radar unless they manage to catch Misa, at which point the outcome depends: Does Misa tell the task force that Kira avenged her parents' deaths? If she does, the task force learns there's another Kira. If she doesn't say this though, then the task force would believe that they'd successfully caught Kira, and unless Light made himself obvious again, the task force could end up dissolved due to it being considered a success. In that second possibility, as long as Light keeps his kills subtle and infrequent enough, he could go years without people realizing the mistake.
    Third: It's unlikely Light would be seriously looked at as a suspect by L in the first place in this scenario, because part of the reason Light drew attention in the first place was because of him using his father's access to information on the case, and changing his pattern when he realized they suspected he was a student, instantly giving himself away as having a connection to the task force through utilizing their information. In this scenario, with a far bigger task force, there would be too many possible moles for L to be able to bug all of them, and Light would still likely have access to their files to some extent. There are ways L could play around this, like giving some parts of the task force false information and seeing if Kira acts on it, but outside of that scenario, Light would be largely in the clear. This also means that light can keep the portable TV in his chip bag, and hide it similarly to how he hid the Death Note itself, giving him a way to go about his business as Kira when he _clearly_ has no TV or means to find the names of the future victims in his room when he's studying. Furthermore, without L's involvement, Light would probably be more focused on his education that the far less immediate cat and mouse game, which would probably help sell his alibi of being a hard working student. As long as Light keeps the existing schedule of kills for the next couple years, and doesn't change the times he kills at, he should be in the clear as far as suspicion is concerned, and he could potentially get away with it, and could possibly lead the task force on goose chases for years. Light might get caught eventually, his biggest sin is pride, you could say, and he's often left details he didn't realize because his pride wouldn't acknowledge that he could be caught in the first place.

    L challenging Light with the Lind L Taylor stunt embarrassed and bruised his god complex so much that he was driven to kill L more than he was driven to not get caught but also he just wasn’t worried that he could ever get caught anyway cause they would need the death note to convict him and he had it in that thing rigged to burn up so Light had absolutely no reason to not do what he did. Light wanted to kill L and win their game. That is his main motive behind his decisions. He was leading L to him like a trail of breadcrumbs. Also Light only lost to Near and Mellow combined because Mikami disobeyed an order of his thinking it was necessary. I see that as Lights karma or his good luck like he experienced in episode 7 running into Naomi Misara at just the right time and her trusting him, running out.

    while the point of the video is great,
    there's a third option Kira could had used.
    use the DN to control Raye for a few days so Raye dies after he has informed that Light is free of suspicion and began to tail somebody else. also, for the love of god, why kill Raye with a heart attack? any other cause would be fine and confuse L.
    of course, Raye's girlfriend would, maybe, take a look and find that Kira can use other methods to kill but I'm quite sure she would end the same way as in the canon or just ignored.

  • @pinkmark4047
    @pinkmark4047 Před 3 měsíci +12

    Very good point. As calculated as Light was, he did make a lot of emotional decisions and this was one of them.
    Light killed Raye only to force L’s hand into having to reveal himself to the task force because Light wanted to kill L and needed to get closer to him, or more directly his identity.
    Light’s ego got in the way a lot. Naomi Misora would have never approached L had Raye lived because her and Raye were getting married and Raye was dissuading her from any type of investigative work and just wanted her to be a housewife. After Naomi “goes missing” L only becomes more suspicious that Naomi may have run into Kira because it wasn’t in her character to commit suicide over Raye’s death, which is what most people were thinking.

  • @tukavaraandco7820
    @tukavaraandco7820 Před měsícem +9

    Interesting to find this 4 years later but I’d like to point out that the reason L refers to Kira as a “He” even when the suspect lost varies so wildly is because of the fact that something on order of 90% of murders are committed by men. So statistically Kira is male, until proven otherwise.

    Light couldn't have the fbi agent email him even if he wanted to. You can't use the death note to imprint information or have someone guess something that they couldn't already figure out. That fbi agent would already need to know Light's info for that to even be possible.
