      That right there is how Person A who knows how human egos work exploits Person B' ignorance and self-involvedness. A cat doesnt give a fuck if her water bowl costs 5 cents or 50000; for the cat it is just where water is... but the human can classify objects by non-existent parameters, that why idealism (religions, pr, advertising, design etc) exists.

    I think the exposed copper CPU contact on the back of the block is exactly as simple as you stated. With a block that big it would be smart to have the most important dimension, the CPU contact, wait be finalized after the rest of the assembly is complete. That way margins for error around the rest of the block can be a bit more forgiving, and even though nickle plated copper performs perfectly well thermally, one less layer of material to transfer the heat through.

  • @bchurch19

    The cover for the front panel audio and bios switches is just an aesthetic thing. From what I can see theres a hole to allow the front panel audio cable to pass through, and as these cables generally have ugly bare wires at the end, I like the idea. It's the little details like that that help justify the pricetag.

    • @MansBestFriend_

    my guess about the CPU contact surface being milled down to the copper is that it's either purely aesthetic (like decorative copper on the bottom of a pan) or that gigabyte expects their target user to be more likely to ask about nickel's nominally slightly lower thermal conductivity than copper, than to want to delid and/or liquid metal -- is the mount height of the monoblock adjustable to the extent that you could even direct-die cool it?

    15:40 The none nickle plated copper CPU block is not a manufacturing mistake. Copper is the best the thermally conductive metal and is over three times the thermal conductivity of Nickel. It is important to make sure that the surface that will interact with the CPU is the most thermally conductive. The nickel plating on the rest of the metal loop is to slow corrosion and oxidization because of the 'wet environment' it may marginally add some structural strength to the copper and 'improves' the aesthetics as well.

    The reason they milled after plating isn't due to dimension issue, its to increase quality. I'm glad they took the time for post machining after plating because it shows the level of quality they put into it. Plating, coating, etc has its purpose but its not going to help with thermal dynamics. Removing that plating increases the thermal efficiency just a little more for a critical component that can benefit from it so it can be exposed to the copper itself. Plating is nice to look at though hehe and to reduce corrosion in other applications.

    So does this crazy mobo also come with Realtek USB Audio? Recently completed a Z590 build using a 10900k on a Gigabyte Aorus Ultra. Its on-board audio comes up as "Realtek USB Audio". USB for on-board audio? Is that common now? And there is a delay with that audio...had to end up using an $8 USB Audio dongle to get audio that's actually synced up with video. Very frustrating.

  • @silkysixx
    @silkysixx Před 3 lety

    The nickel is milled off the CPU cold plate because the thermal paste will protect against corrosion and so pure copper can be used for improved thermal conductivity; nickel plating is good for longevity, but adds a layer (literally) of thermal resistance to the transfer system.

    It looks like you can install or change the M.2 drives after the monoblock is installed. The screws on the top side of the M.2 covers look like they enable access to the drives.
    Can anyone confirm this?
    Nice video as usual der8auer! I loved that intro, thank you.

      Most did not come with a cpu. Maybe vendors made a combo deal but that's probably the extent.
