I was really excited when they announced it and started to put money aside.. but then then I saw all the issues with the cam shaft on that engine and even more troublesome the response KTM as a company has made regarding those issues. It is not reasonable that the owners have to put down that amount of money for new cams (and heads) on a bike with 15k-20k km on it. Unless they guarantee that will not happen, I suspect a lot of people will stay away. I also agree that journalists should mention that in reviews, put more pressure on the manufacturers to react properly and take care of their clients.
You're barking up the wrong tree, I don't think you can call us full-on journalists, we're a TV show about bikes. It's difficult for us to mention issues like that unless we've researched it fully, we've ridden many different KTM's without any problems.
@@BikeWorldTVshow Ofcourse you can expect questions like this. If you look at a couple of KTM or Husqvarna CZcams video's with bikes that have the 790 or 890 you can see plenty of people complaining or asking about the camshaft problem. Looks as if the the journalists or TV shows about bikes are keeping quiet about the problems because they don't want to lose their ticket to bike launches. You can also look at it this way, now you know about the problem, what are you going to do about it as hosts of a bike show? People are already reporting problems with the new 990 engine..... This is coming from a guy that likes bike video's and this channel btw. See it as some criticism.
@@stefanostokman We have been trying to deal with it, and don’t start with the launch crap, we don’t care about going on launches. We’d honestly sooner ride the bikes on the roads we know and love in Wales. We’ve ask KTM and we’ve been told an official release will be coming from the factory within a couple of weeks. Good enough for you?
More Lara, please. Outstanding review, as always. I especially appreciate her always commenting on in-depth details of a bike versus just a bland overview.
Outstanding detailed analysis of this bike! Your knowledgeable and concise approach in the review of this bike is exemplary and very helpful. I appreciate it when reviewers take the time to “break down” every aspect of a bike in order to help potential buyers make a better decision. Thank you!
Buyer Beware. I have owned a new Svartpilen 401 for almost two years now. I have spend the past six months waiting for a replacement for a defective radiator fan. My efforts to reach out to KTM, including corporate, did not help. Not even a response, explanation, apology, or effort to expedite the part. I have waited previously for a month for an oil filter to become available. I'm going on 10 months to a year waiting for other less critical parts. I was eagerly wanting to place an order for the new 801. Now I'll be afraid to take the bike more than 30 minutes from home when and if it's finally repaired. When I did research on the 401 none of the reviewers mentioned the reliability and parts availability problems. I wish I had been warned. I think this is a systemic problem at KTM that they have somehow kept relatively quiet and instead flooded social media with positive videos about new bikes.
Looks like a well balanced package. Could it be the only bike in your garage? Bottomed out the suspension? Sounds like a progressive spring upgrade is needed, but that is almost every bike.
Once they sorted out the reliability issues coming out about the motor , its a great looking bike,,but to possibly be left with a bike outside warranty needing a top end ,, not sure 🤔,,,from northern Ireland ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️
I owned a Svart 401 and adored it. I was thrilled to see the 801 coming until they announced the engine choice. The top end issues and lack of response from KTM/Husky on this issue has me unwilling to buy another Husky product until things improve. I'll be spending my money with Triumph instead.
Nice review 👍 I always thought the larger Svartpilen would benefit from the more powerful twin cylinder motor. Do Husqvarna now finally have a natural successor to the (perhaps) underappreciated Nuda?
Top review and nice ride. Had 2 bikes with modes now and just turned them off. Street triple r is still the best bike I regret selling. Thanks again for the insight into KTM land.
NGL, a 10mm spacer at the right place on the fork and you can increase rake and volume... i do mods like that so imho the frame is still the same to me unless they prove it with a presentation.
i've seen better looking motorcyles, the rear as usual is short and ugly, the radiator cover look like it was a DIY job at home by someone not vey handy.....
Really unique take on the bike, thanks. I think the fact that this bike can be described as 'professional' is why sales will never fly. People buy bikes, by and large, to feel cool, dangerous, exotic maybe. And whilst I quite like its minimal sophistication, it's unlikely to create that visceral connection with its rider that so many other bikes can.
I really hope you mention how the LC8c engine is now becoming world-renowned for melting its cams. Moto journalists lose a lot of credibility when they don't mention obvious flaws with the platform.
Maybe because no one outside of KTM actually knows the extent of the problem? It is a problem and KTM should own up to it and get it fixed but I've scoured every forum and page related to the issue and there are maybe 2 or 3 dozen confirmed examples of worn cams. How significant is that if they have sold thousands of these engines? Should all the journalist start bashing the bike straight out of the gate because of some anecdotes? The new 4 year warranty is enough to make me feel OK enough about it that I will purchase one.
@@BikeWorldTVshow There are no issues that are apparent until the bike fails because the cams wear prematurely. It seems to take about 10 to 15,000 mi before these bikes stop cranking. I understand it's hard to assess for long-term reliability, especially when the problem is insidious and requires taking off the valve cover to even diagnose. At this point, any bike with an LC8c should be introduced with a disclaimer.
It´s the established non-swedish way to say it, just accept it :D For anyone who isn´t swedish you could try to prolong the u as in Huuuuuskvarna. And the "skva" just say it like "squadron".

Probably 😂

Tag KTM/Husqvarna here so they know people is aware of their engine problems.

2024 Husqvarna Svitpilen 801 UK REVIEW

Not cool pushing your vid this way.
Articulate review, Lara. You're in tune to motorcycles, good to have you on Bike World team.

The 701 looks so much better
The moment 'nice nicheness' enters the motorcycle lexicon
Love it 🫶🏽. I’d bet I’d love the riding position as well. Can’t wait to try it! 🤙🏾

Your sticker just happen to cover the speedo- what are the odds of that ;-)

Alas, It will be another 2 years or so. Still any issues will be ironed out by then.

I’m guessing you missed the branding on the rims. Pretty cool
Cool jacket. Jon Wick’s Scrambler.
Nice cb650
Cool review! It looks like it's going after the Ducati Scrambler here. Much higher spec by the looks of it though.
801 = higher power, lower weight, better sups. Easy decision from my point of view.

Ride one and then write a opinion.
Your audio is pretty bad
What a swizz having to pay for features already in the machine. That's enough to put many off.
They should use this engine to make another Nuda 900.
