WHERE DID THE WORD BAÚCA COME FROM IN ANGOLA?

  • Well, bauka is a trait that most black people around the world share at some point in their lives. In darker skin tones, the “baúka” is much more visible in relation to lighter tones.
    However, most people think it is slang, as it has become popular since colonial times when some of the Angolans who learned Portuguese also maintained the use of their native languages, borrowed vocabulary, in this case, borrowing words from the national languages to the Portuguese.
    In this way, the word “baúka” is not slang and much less slang, in fact it originates from Kimbundu, one of our national languages.
