    I personally think a compromise is to pause the timer on level up during single player games. I don't generally mind the timer but when i'm trying to learn a game being forced to speed read my skills is a bit annoying.

  • @NevermoreDD
    @NevermoreDD Před 9 měsíci +6

    People are complaining about the timer but the main problem with maxing out characters is rng for their talent drops. But even without making your build op you can still make meaningful decisions like trying to get your healing/armor/shield up instead of damage which works great with Melusine/Beowulf/Alladin/Gepetto. Alladin and Gepetto are the hardest to learn but after you learn to pick up your blades from Special with Defense (jump) on Alladin you are unstoppable with either support (shields+heal from picking up blades) or damage (both tornado and jump attack). Nightmare 6-9 are difficulties you want to duo or solo because in 4-people co-op the game lags a lot. Actually 4-people is a breeze if all of the team splits to scout the first 3 minutes then go for green stuff to get to level 3. Also if you stack up all the shield/heal talents and learn to recieve them from all of your teammates you are invincible.

    This game looks AMAZING, glad you're playing it again. But yeah, the time limit means I'll personally never play this game. I mean, not even pausing during talent selection? Come on now..

    • @Haelian
      @Haelian  Před 9 měsíci +5

      Yeah I wonder if a system closer to how RoR2 works would be better: more time spent = harder enemies but at least you get to be in control.

  • @yadamspiezer
    @yadamspiezer Před 9 měsíci +21

    Not sure how I feel about a game where the optimal way to play is to spend significant time every attempt just running past enemies.
    Someone once said video game fun equals meaningful decisions divided by time played. This looks like a lot of time where I'm not doing anything except trying to get from point A to point B.

    • @Haelian
      @Haelian  Před 9 měsíci +12

      It's a work in progress no doubt. Because of the timer system, playing optimally means trying to group enemies up at objectives and killing them all at once. They've gotten a lot of criticism for it and I definitely think there's some compromises to be had on it, let's hope they find a way.

    I like what i see from this game but the timer just ruins it for me.
    I don't want to spend my time in runs rushing past everything... the game doesn't even pause the timer for you to consider what upgrades to get...
    A shame because the game looks good!

    • @Haelian
      @Haelian  Před 9 měsíci +12

      The potential's there and they are definitely getting this feedback consistently, I'm hoping they find a way that keeps runs concise but not so stringent to the timer.

    I loved the developers previous game, Curse of the Dead Gods and I am excited to play Ravenswatch, but the Early Access thing puts me off because I often burn out on Early Access games during the EA period. Seeing as how this game is salted to release quarter 3 of 2024, I'm wondering if I should wait on it a bit.

      @Haelian  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It gets shorter at the highest difficulty but is always a part of it. It's probably the biggest criticism that people have about the game so we might see them change it in the future.

      @@Mitch_Feral it depends wether or not the whole game was built around it. For example outer wilds works incredibly well because the whole game is built around it. You should check it out if you haven't, probably the most unique and memorable gaming experience you can have!

      @@d00mnoodle24 I've heard great things about Outer Wilds, but I had never heard it had a timer! For me it's just about anxiety and how I use my limited gaming time; I want to relax and grind up monsters.
      I think Hades is a pretty perfect model - creating incentives for time challenges for those who want them is amazing, bc I know lots of folks like that, and I would want them to have it if they do. It's like that arena mode they dropped into Borderlands 3 - I *loved* the space, the vibe, there just wasnt enough time for me to enjoy playing in it. I would have killed for a 'no timer' version.

    • @d00mnoodle24
      @d00mnoodle24 Před 9 měsíci +1

      @@Mitch_Feral i also really dislike timers and avoid any game with it. But for outer wilds i made a leap of faith and gave it a try. It's hard to tell why it's so key in outer wilds without spoiling anything. Just that it's core to the whole game and everything is built with that in mind. It's also not a timer that requires you to rush constantly like ravenswatch. Wasting some time doesn't matter as your progression is tied to what you know/discover within the given time. When you 'restart' you can almost instantly go back to where you were within a minute or less to continue exploring or use what you learned to go somewhere new. In that sense the timer really motivated my curiosity! You can play the game at your own pace, the timer is the perfect length to make the game engaging if that made sense. I know it's weird to go against your gut feeling based on the recommendations of a random person online. And i wouldn't put in so much effort into trying to convince people to play a game for anything other than outer wilds. It's just something i wish to share with everyone haha. Also limited time isn't really an issue with outer wilds since you can just pick it up the next day where you left off without losing anything. Only if you have amnesia i suppose 😛

    The game will be perfect when they add a parry button, I know several characters have their own dodges, blocks or whatever defensive move ties to their kit but I feel everyone needs a parry button like in curse of the dead gods (same company btw) with how easily you can reset a run or die from 100-0 because enemies chunk especially at higher nightmare levels
