I agree he knew his son sign his own death warrant, and if he tried to stop him his army and him would die beside him.
but he was forced into an unwinable situation, let john kill his son and thus show weakness or hope against lottery odds he will kill john wicks.
it wasn't the car that was the issue if he had stolen that john would simply demand it back ,which off course would have happened with a truck full of gold as a sweetener.

It's implied that the "impossible task" was assassinating all of his rivals in one night. We find out later that he used connections to help him do it, but the sheer fact that he could pull this off regardless makes Viggo realize that he CANNOT cross this man at all costs. If he could eliminate his rivals this quickly, he could easily do the same to Viggo no matter how many men he had at his disposal. And this meant of course that he would never have enough men to stop John from killing Iosef.

I love how in this scene we see that Viggo also honored the deal with John, and that’s part of the reason he’s so angry with his son. John succeeded in the impossible task, and as payment Viggo not only let him go but left him alone for essentially laying the foundation of his criminal empire. It’s clear that Viggo still keeps tabs on John (he knew his wife had just died) not only because he was a past associate but because he knows just how freakishly dangerous he is. And now, his son not only signed his own death warrant but dishonored his fathers deal and word he gave to John that he’d leave him and his family alone. So many layers to the anger Viggo has when he figures out what his son did.

The perfect dialogue delivery by Michael Nyqvist is what made me fall in love with this scene first and the franchise. The way he described John Wick literally added life to his character and created the whole terror/awe in the mind of the viewers as to who John was and what he is capable of. To top it off, the amazing background score 'Story of Wick' by Tyler Bates just makes the scene send a chill down the spine. The funny part is , while Viggo absolutely looked terrified of what he saw coming considering his son had awakened the sleeping giant and explaining his son to prepare for his funeral ,yet there his arrogant dumb son thinks he still has a chance by saying,he can make things right by finishing what he started. What a character 😂😂Every time the hammer hit the ground, it sounded like Wick hammering a nail through the coffin of everyone who was standing in his way. His son's eyes and his expression when Viggo uttered the most deadly line -'John will come for you ' is perhaps one of the best parts of the scene! 🙌

And then, at this very scene, with Viggo's lines, The movie literally switches on to what it actually is. This is 'Marlon Brando in The Godfather's first scene' levels of good.

One of my favorite scenes from the series as well as this one and Viggo singing about Baba Yaga near the end of the movie. I think it’s in the second movie, the start of the fight at the concert was also a favorite. Though out whole series they just have a professionalism and a mutual respect about them. It’s pretty cool that they put that detail in to the series.

No, probably not. Because for all we know, "Baba Yaga" John Wick could be someone entirely different from "Retired" John Wick. The reason why we root for John so hard in the beginning because he faced the horrendous and unjust tragedy of losing his dog after the passing of his wife. And this is further maintained by the fact that in both Chapter 2 and Parabellum, we're still reminded of that tragedy. "Retired" John Wick is a cold-blooded assassin who's bent on vengeance, while "Baba Yaga" John Wick is a cold-blooded assassin who probably didn't have a concrete reason to fight, aside from perhaps pure survival in the crime world. While I'm not dismissing the fact that the idea would be good, it makes for too much of a risk of uprooting our established beliefs of John. If we knew who he *really* was, we might come to regret rooting for this assassin and we might even believe that we were condoning his murders.

    Imma say it again
This right there is the perfect representation of the whole 3 movies. From the light to the darkness, and there's no way back.
You could argue too that the fact the light is present only in a very small part of the screen means there's no more light into John's life anyway.
And he actually hesitates for a very brief moment before diving right into it.
And to quote Winston : "You dip much as a pinky in this pond, you may well find something reaches out and drags you back into its depths"
Damn I love this very simple scene

@@markpatjoebilldinousar1111 Ah a person who thinks the curtains are blue because the author likes that color. Light-Dark representation is very grade 1 film-making, it's definitely intentional, lol.

@@motodog242 I know it's intentional propaganda that doesn't really care about you or anybody's representation đŸ€“. I know that shit is really " in " right now so Marvel is doing it to get allllllll y'all Gen Zs on board đŸ€“
I mean doesn't the rapp music and and alllllll the references to " in " shit in MCU make that clear ? Going as far as to bring real life Celebes and "Rappers " for dumb skits .....skits particularly aimed at a very SPECIFIC audience unlike how things where before ???? Yk ? When MCU aimed they're content at Everyone ??
That's literally what has been the faulty of the MCU , you didn't need to point out the obvious but thanks đŸ€“
Oh and also that Cringey " Ah a person who blah blah blah " Yea No . I just want something that At LEAST sticks to the BASICs of the source material and that isn't what Marvel is doing bc AGAIN Gen Zs like ( presumably )yourself , attack and screw with people who have an opinion on the Internet đŸ€“ thus forcing woke crap into characters that have been around for Decades đŸ€“
But thanks , thanks for your awesome opinion " bro " đŸ€“
