- Weekday afternoon drive looking for castle ruins along the Northern Ireland Coast! Video starts in the small village of Cushendun, next a stop at Torr Head (rugged headland with dramatic cliff & ocean views, plus remains of Altagore cashel, an ancient fort), and ends in Ballycastle. Northern Ireland is home to Game of Thrones filming locations, castles, sheep, whiskey distilleries, beaches, stunning views, and much more.

These drives bring back great nostalgia for me . In 2017, I rented a car in Belgium and drove all over Europe for almost 6 months. It was the greatest experience of my life , and I am desperate to return to such adventures . To me , a vacation or trip is not being in a city or at a beach or a site , but the drive in itself . Put on some introspective instrumental soundtracks and get lost in the seemingly infinite horizon . The vibration of the road, the changing geographic landscape and the perfect setting for deep self reflection. For now , I satisfy my deep desires of errantry with only small roadtrips , as I unwillingly conform to the trivial demands and values that society has imposed on me. In my mind, the road is freedom. Thank you for this .

was it easy driving in europe as an English speaker or were there some roads and traffic rules that you had a hard time adjusting??
I used to go with family on frequent roadtrips when i was little and i also really miss the vibe of the highway, especially having radio on the randomness of radio and the whooshing sound of the air all mixes together with the never ending roads and trees and its a very calming hypnotic kind of thing
You all do realize that the UK is in Europe too right? 💀💀💀 Folks talk about the UK like it is a completely different continent to Europe ahaha
You were lucky to get such a nice day because there is a little Northern Irish saying that if you can't see the mountains it's raining, and if you can then it's about to rain!. We have lovely beaches but it is rarely warm enough for a pleasant swim....I have swum many times when it is far from warm, including Winter for a bet.

Now due to the many responsibilities of living and stress,
It's hard for me to go spontaneously on these incredible exciting adventures.
For me too it has always been the long soothing journey itself rather then just the beautiful countryside and ocean views.
It was like a spiritual journey for me

I'm not normally one for living out in the country, but this area is absolutely breathtaking despite how ridiculously narrow those roads are. The thunderstorm displays out there must be incredible too.
Cushendun to Ballycastle... known as Torr Head! It's my dream to see this road from behind the wheel of a Rally Car! Some of the world's top drivers have said its one of the best ribbons of Tarmac in the world!

Blue bin day = recyclable materials only , There is an old Lloyds of London station on the headland at Torr Head ( up the hill from where you stopped) this was used to report shipping movement back to the maritime insurers. Also used during the war to spot the enemy etc..
No buses allowed on this road , so bring a car and some nerves , it is busier than this on the weekend.
If you are in this area this is a must and on a 'good' day you can touch Scotland. Never fails to impress.
PS: Always wave to the Postie , especially one who drives this or an other tricky route in winter.

Calling Torr Head for the day 😄 brilliant scenery to experience driving. As much as I enjoyed it last year my old car didn't. Bad idea taking a small engine old car up there but some day I'll have to return. Lucky for me it's only about 20 miles away Other wonderful sceneries up the North Antrim Coast worth exploring and taking the time to get out and gaze.

My wee home country which I left 20 years ago (though visit when I can). I am biased but I think it’s truly stunning drive. You should have a wee drive through the Mourne Mountains and down the coastal route equally as stunning with equally wee roads

Have you driven the Ring of Kerry? Lots of narrow bends there but some great scenery. I drove it last year and have a 3part video on my channel.

You can see the Scottish coast off in the distance.
And In September I will be driving this road again on our way to the Giant's Causeway& Carickareed rope bridge with my Cambodian good lady wife, sure she will be impressed. I will be amazed if she isn't.🤗🤗

I love that they’ve never widened these ancient roads. In the US the gov’t would seize 8 ft of space on either side by Eminent Domain and force the dismantling of the ancient stone walls and hedgerows, all so cars need not slow down to pass abreast. Or God forbid, have to show courtesy to a stranger. As if rushing from here to there is an absolute necessity.
Here in Ireland, I suspect such pressure would be met with a few simple questions - what’s your hurry ? Why is going faster a better way to live ? Why not pull over to let the other fellow by, and take a long look at the countryside while you’re at it ? Isn’t that why you’re here anyway ?
