  • We set off from Bath just after 8am and moored in Brunel Quay in Bristol Floating Harbour around 3:15pm. A trip of 17 miles and 7 hours.

It must be 30 years ago I did this with a very long boat, must have been 68 or so. I hardly recognised anything! We almost collided with the Bristol Queen in Totterdown basin (several years later a similar incident was enacted in Casualty) and when we got into Bristol turned into St Augustins reach. Ther was a mooring but I had to turn to get into it - have to turn anyway. So turn hard to port, just before going astern go hard to starboard, full astern, boat turns perfectly, forwards - big round of applause from the gongoozlers - moor. I have never succeeded in such a perfect turn since!

thanks for a new perspective into the bath - bristol route, lovely canal routes & countryside along it. BTW, the jam doughnuts are Lidl's best.....

Taken my wide-beam from Bath to Bristol many times. A lovely stretch.
