  • There are 9,000 empty public units in the Milan area, but 20,000 families on the waiting list for housing. Meanwhile, the private housing market is out of control and evictions are common.
CURA lab, run by the Polytechnic University of Milan and Bicocca University, collaborates with housing activists and social movements to produce a more just city.
In this video, academics and activists discuss the severe housing shortage in the city, along with their aims for participatory planning processes and ways to appropriate and transform abandoned spaces for housing.
This is part of a number of short films produced for a series of housing justice exchanges convened by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED).
