Festivals in the Philippines are mostly done for thanksgiving, or ask the gods, for a good harvest. Each province has a certain time to showcase their products or food native to their place.
In this case, Leyte is showing despite the pains of the natural calamities, they are able to bounce back. The dance is a dance of thanksgiving. Street dancing follows.
Come over, Ovela! Witness and join the fun. You can choose the kind of festival you like. Panagbenga in Baguio is a festival of flowers. If you love fish, there is Bangus (milkfish) festival in Pangasinan. If you love roasted pig, we have Lechon festival. There is Maskara (mask) festival, higantes (giants) festival and more. And I am not even mentioning our religious festivals. Don't worry, 90% of the Filipinos understand english.
You also have to experience Christmas in the 🇵🇭. Our Christmas celebration is the longest in the world. Experience Simbang Gabi (dawn masses) for 16 consecutive days and eat bibingka and puto bungbong (native delicacies) after.

I have been to different countries and foreigners seem to wonder how OFWs handle fun under pressure. This is just us. Happy hearts, creativity and most of all, togetherness. It is standard for any Philippine Festival to have this many people performing in one group. It is honestly something you have to experience in person. Every city/province have their own festival and for different reasons. Some are for good harvest while some is to honour their patron saint or the Sto. Nino. It is often a month long event which ends with these grand performances or competitions.
Each performance is also story driven, mostly about the province, whether it's their struggles or history.

Hi Kuya Ovela, Philippines is a very festive country like almost every city and municipality (a term to use a place much smaller than city and much bigger than a barangay) have their distinct festivals. Here, Tanauan, a municipality in Leyte has "Pasaka Festival". Moreover, the performer here showcased the story theyve undergone during Typhoon Haiyan (locally known as Typhoon Yolanda) which is considered as the strongest typhoon ever.

Hi Ovela! Thank you for watching this video. I'm from Leyte Province particular in Tacloban City. Tanauan is a municipal with a distance of 30 kilometer away from Tacloban. This event was held in Tacloban City last June 27, 2018 in celebration city fiesta honoring our patron saint Señor Santo Niño of Tacloban. The Pasaka festival is a tribe dance that depicts the culture of Tanuanon people but the story behind it was emphasized when super typhoon Haiyan struck in the November 8, 2013 where so many lives have perished and distructed of so many agriculture and infrastructures.

And by the way I am one of your biggest faaaaaaan I am always updated to MNG because I love your genuine reactions. And just to clear everything ovela the reason why the participants was grieving is not because of war but because of the devastation of typhoon Haian/Yolanda here in our province in Leyte last November 08, 2013. And just a quick trivia it is the biggest and the strongest typhoon ever landed on land. And I know you are wondering why there is a helicopter well it symbolizes as a help from the government and different private organization whether it's local or international organization. And lastly the bird symbolizes HOPE that no matter what happen whether it's bad or worst we should be resilient even if it's tough/difficult to move on we must try and live a life again and we should never waiver our faith in God because everything happens for a reason 😊. I do hope ovela that you will be reacting to a lot of festival here in the Philippines because we do have a bunch of unique festivals, unique stories to interpret and unique things to share to the world. Aside from the big role Leyte played in the history of the Philippines, particularly during the World War, it has become very well-known (even internationally) again these past years. Typhoon Haiyan (called Yolanda here) hit them the hardest. They experienced a tsunami-like catastrophe. Thousands died and thousands were displaced. I think the exact or, at least, the nearest number of death is still unclear. Anyway, that's what they were showing, ergo, the helicopter delivering help.
As a Christian country, the Philippines believe in a lot of saints. Our cities/towns and villages are often named after saints. Therefore, we have lots of fiestas to honor our patron saints. Many have these type of festivals. These festivals have become really big over the years. They give joy and are actually the cities' ways to attract tourists.
