I'd recommend starting with something small like granny squares until you know all of the necessary stitches like the back of your hand. You can use those projects to practice blocking and other techniques to improve the consistency and longevity of your finished pieces. That way, once you're ready for a cute pattern like this one, you'll have the tools to enjoy your creation for years to come.
