  • A brand new reel mower for $200 is impossible to find. Your search is over with the cordless Sunjoe reel mower. Like their dethatcher, this little fisher price looking machine is cheap, sharp, and packs a big punch for such a cheap price. In this video I go over all the specs on the machine, give a demonstration of quality of cut, how loud it is, and my overall thoughts on the unit. I am a reel mower guy myself so I will give it to you straight. My daily drivers are an ALLETT Liberty 43 and a Toro Greensmaster 1000. If you enjoy this kind of content please hit the thumbs up button and consider subscribing to my channel. Every little bit helps.
    My merch store is up and running with the basic stuff but it is high quality (not tee-spring garbage) and it is way cheaper. Come buy a shirt, proceeds go to my daughter.

    Another benefit to reel mowing not often mentioned is that sheering a blade of grass (vs tearing it it the speed of a rotary) is less stressful to the plant i.e., more healthy for your lawn as well.

    Great video! It’s a great way to dip your toes into electric reel mowing.
    Some tips for the long haul… 1) buy a metal file for your first reel bend (for me it was hitting the ground at a low spot). 2) use fluid film before each use, it will cut the noise down a lot. 3) add the DIY front roller if you’re going to mow at 0.6”, otherwise it’s a real pain. 4) backlap as needed, this blade doesn’t hold an edge super long
    Otherwise I love this little machine!

I hate to toss grass clippings since I fertilize and you're throwing away fertilizer.

    This may or may not be a problem depending if you buy one for exercise or speed. Dominator go back and count how many laps back and forth doing the job. At 15" that's a pretty small cut, lotta up and backs. So count the number of laps to do the job. Laps x number of yard feet will give you a distance walked. You probably walked a mile doing that cut.

Also, if your getting your clipings are too much your probably trimming too much off. Just cut the grass 2-3 times a week.

      @@dragon6ft5 you could. But you would just be dulling your blades for what, a millimeter or two of gras? Not to mention it still takes time. I sometimes gut mine 3 times a week. Just depends on how fast its growing. Every situation is different. Alternatively you can run over the clippings and often chops the smaller which with help them to drop through the grass canopy. As they decompose they will add nutrients to the lawn while not being an eyesore.

      @TheNeighborDominator  Před 2 lety +1

      If you have a relatively Rock and stick free lawn, or you pick up before you mowz this thing is a better cut than any earthwise, fiskar, great state, etc. It's only a 15 inch cut so it will take longer. Scotts makes a 20 inch manual reel. I personally don't use it because I have added another 2k of Reel mowing so I'm at 4k so it would take me longer. But I do use it at my cousins house where he has converted over to reel mowing his 1500sq ft yard.. how much are you reel mowing

    I don't care about noise where I live. I do like the electric option given where gas prices are. Does it do a better job and make the lawn look better than a traditional mower?

    • @TheNeighborDominator
      @TheNeighborDominator  Před 2 lety +1

      It does cut better but this is not a mulcher and it cuts the lawn lower than your normal propeller blade. It is not as durable at all. If you hit a stick or rock the reel and bedknife will have issues.

      At the time the only residential battery powered reel mowers were the Liberty-43 and the sunjoe. I was just mentioning both not a true comparison. If this machine was available at the time when I started reel mowing with power I would have went with this to start on my tiny lawn instead of a $3000 machine 🤦

    • @TheNeighborDominator
      @TheNeighborDominator  Před 2 lety

      There are used greensmasters out there you can find for around $1000 that need work. I believe California trimmers are cheaper too. I went with the Allett for the convenience of cartridges so I didn't have a bunch of machines in my garage and the cut with the liberty is amazing. I have an old gm1000 and the liberty stripes better and cuts better in my opinion
