Imagine having a menu and everything on it is homeade from scratch. My lord. I'd eat all day
My mother did that for my sisters and my father everyday it was such an honor

My grandma cooked for her 15 children plus husband and farm hands. She kept a big jar of toasted browned flour above the stove for everyday use. Yes it is old fashioned, but good
Love Paul, he’s so genuine, not a snob, seems like a great guy💕
that cottage pie looks so good i'm dying.
I love it when my mother makes cottage pie - she mashes the potatoes with cheese so we don't have to put it on top like Paul does & mum puts butter on top of the mashed Potatoe before it goes in the grill to make it come up just the same way as Pauls.
This is wonderful! About the Cottage Pie - I think the term they are looking for in describing it is "comfort food".
That banana flan looks MARVELOUS!
All home cooking is comfort food! Love watching these shows--and I'm going to fix some of Mildred's recipes!! Thank you soo much for sharing!
The Chef really seems to LOVE cooking :)
Luv the likable chef with humor🥰😋👍🏼
“Victorian children were to be seen and not heard”: my goodness, I grew up with some people (a bit older, admittedly) who still said that in the 1980s and 90s.
I was delighted to see that Victoria and Albert made their children learn to cook and garden
@@judyjohnson9610 she was probably the greatest queen in English history
Yet, Queen Victoria tried to be a very good, wise, and loving mom. How sad that her name get's used in such a way that is nothing like her.
@@SRose-vp6ew it was the Victorian period because she was queen
It’s said that Victoria hates pregnancy and motherhood, but loved sex
I love the host of the show he’s so enthusiastic and I love it when he tries the food it’s adorable
I’m American, but because mum was Australian I spent several years of my childhood in Australia. One of my sharpest memories of that time is eating fish and chips from a fold of newspaper. So delicious!
That is the ONLY way to eat it. And what's a little lead poisoning between friends?
I don't understand why this delicious dish would be considered a child's dish. We consider Shepherd Pie a family delight! Love his little secrets with the fork. For sure I'll be trying this. Love the atmosphere they created together, very warm and non threatening cooking. They need a show together!
That cottage pie made me hungry 😭
Michael, such a charming man.
Thanks.
Franny.
It’s funny to me you call cottage pie (nursery food)
I call it a yummy dinner anytime
I always thought his favorite “Childhood Desert” was the Sahara.
The sweets you eat after dinner are "desserts". Deserts are the barren wastelands where I live, lol! Arizona, USA.
Been a royal fan for years. What I love most about these series is the chat between the duo. Just love that soooooo much, quite entertaining and fun. Wonderful videos.
I love you mommy😭 she used to allow me to order what i wanted in our travel as kids.
You guys call the Cottage Pie "nursery food". Here in America we would call it Mama's home cookin' 🥘❤🇺🇲
If we cared we would be watching an American video not a British one. Go wave the American flag on a video about Trump, because we find it very tacky in Europe.

@@GavinsMarineMom that's why everyone is laughing at your downfall atm 😆
@@katerinaliakou5549 our downfall? We're America, honey. We accomplished in 244 yrs what the rest of you couldn't do in centuries, including bailing you Brits out of WWII. It was Churchill's American genes that gave him the audacity and grit to do what he did and persevere to persuade FDR to help your little island. Without us, you people would be wearing swastikas and bowing to statues of the Fuhrer. What was meant to be a light-hearted comment regarding some of our cultural differences was taken to an ugly place. Take your misery, bitterness, and envy somewhere else. I have better things and better people to deal with. ✌❤🇺🇲
@@GavinsMarineMom I am not British sweetheart, your entire country is based on Roman and ancient Greek values and history, you have accomplished literally nothing on your own. For the last 10 years your country is on a downfall, the world doesn't admire you like it used to, you have handled the pandemic the worst way possible, nobody is looking up to you anymore, it's silly and ignorant if you haven't noticed. Every country that has been an influence, also had an eventual downfall and you are going through it right now, you would have noticed if the American educational system didn't focus exclusively on the American continent and taught you a thing or two from world history. Sorry but it's inevitable 🤷🏼♀️
So when is the recipe book coming out? We all would love a shot at cooking these gorgeous meals. Please say your working on a book!

Fantastic love this. Royal rec@@gnassougerard6494
I’ve been looking for a cookbook too! A few (very few) are on BBC, and some I’ve found by searching the web. Mostly I’ve replicated by trial and error. I’ve always made shepherds pie and cottage pie, but never with mushroom ketchup (which I’ve just found online). Darren McGrady has a CZcams channel with a number of recipes. He has cookbooks too.
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN..MANY MORE YEARS TO QUEEN ELIZABETH 2..
Many more years to queen Elizabeth…She is almost 100..
May this wonderful monarch and woman go gently into that good night at her time.
This cook is a wonderful human being
When a child's kitchen is better than mine.. 😟
Cooking Artistry at its finest! I love the history and the recipes!
I must say I really love and enjoy his shows and I have learned so much!
"Prince Harry's Favourite Childhood Desert" Harry had his own Desert? Wonder if he build sand castles in it 😂
Two spoons of sugar is a good way to remember how to spell Dessert ,,, two SS’s.:) Thank you . Love this series .
Also you always want more dessert.
I learned it as Strawberry Shortcake is a dessert.
Sand is in the desert. 💚
That is such a lovely / clever way to remember that!
Whoa whoa whoa, Time Out!
I thought a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down...
Has my whole life been a lie? 😦🥄

That banana flan looks SO good!! ❤️
Yay! Darren Mcgrady and Dr. Annie Grey in one video? Never been so delighted!
How did I end up here, learning about what the British royal children loved to eat. Lmao . 🇺🇸
Me Too lol.Its making me hungry
Am going to cook the first recipe for my Husband i saved it.
Asking myself the same question. I had better step up my game in the kitchen.
I'm wondering for myself as well lmao
@@LilliLamour, i did one recipe turned out real yummy.
I enjoy Michael as host on this series. He ask questions & his history knowledge is amazing unless someone is helping him in that earpiece. 😎
I love the spirit between these two!
His shepperd's pie looks delicious. Now i'm hungry.
I know right! It's one of my favorites.
Cottage
Sheppard's pie is made with lamb. Cottage is made with beef, that's what they used here this time.
Funny thing is I just yesterday made a lovely "Shepherd's" Pie (actually "Cottage", with beef instead of lamb).
I never had kippers for breakfast or any other meals when i was younger. Tried them when i was in Manitoba from someone who was used to those and bought them in a small barrel and i think they were in oil. Tried it but never really liked it.
Learned something. My cottage pie and shepherds pie never came out right. Now I know to add the flour and to bake it longer so that the meat sauce thickens. I'm thinking back to our menu as kids. Campbell's alphabet soup. Or canned spaghetti on toast. The Royal children are served the very best that money can buy right from the start. No beans on toast. Mama writes a menu and the cook prepares it all. The good life. So many little extras that are just taken for granted. Who would want to give that up? Every month they should invite someone to stay just to have a magnificent experience. The experience of a lifetime. Someone should have suggested that. Unobtrusive. Just stay in the servant's quarters. It's a fantasy but how wonderful would that be? A week would suit me fine. Wishful thinking but it IS possible. Not now with the virus. You can tell I've been indoors too long. What about a wicker basket? Send me a wicker basket full of treats. ha ha ha ha (I added the laughter after reading my plea.)
Canned spaghetti on toast - wow. Who invented that...?
@@adopt-a-pet1968 I wondered the same thing! Now, we've likely all tasted this "tasty morsel" of canned spaghetti, just maybe not on toast??? lol love regional differences and comparisons to them. Nursery food = comfort food? Guessing they're similar...
Imho it depends on a mama to give her kids good food, if a mama is able to buy some canned spaghetti and toast, why not the vegs and some ground beef? One does not need to be a queen or to have servants to cook good, just a little time...
@@irishkazolotse There was no veg. No ground beef. Everything was rationed in England during the War and for years after. With four children to feed, Mama heated up a can of spaghetti and gave us spaghetti on toast. (Bread was not rationed) I still gave that to my kids years later because it tasted so good. You eat it with a knife and fork. And beans? You can make toast fingers and circle the plate with them, like the spokes of a wheel, and the children can eat the toast with their fingers and dunk it into the beans in the center of the plate. The things we ate when that was all there was. And we loved it all because we were hungry. You know, I never thought that what my children were eating was odd. And they didn't either. Everything was made into a meal when I was a child. I was baby-sitting a little girl years ago, and she has told me now that that was the first time she had ever tasted spaghetti on toast. She also remembered my asking her if she would like a banana for dessert. She talks about it to this day. Because I sliced it into a bowl and sprinkled just a little sugar onto it and poured milk onto it. She ate it with a spoon. I realize now that all food had to be "padded" and have ingredients added to make it special because food was special at that time. I would take a little glass jar and walk miles looking for blackberries. One day, I had circled back to walk home with a solitary blackberry in my little jar when I noticed a wall of huge, ripe fruit behind a church rectory. Oh, my goodness. I was 8 years old. I knocked on the front door of the mansion, because the rectory WAS a mansion. A lovely, elderly, lady answered. I asked her if I could pick some blackberries. After looking at my little empty jar she said, "Yes." I quietly filled my jar, walked the miles home, put the berries in a bowl, squashed them with a fork, sprinkled a little sugar on them and added a drop of milk. I remember sitting, alone, silently eating my delicious blackberries. No one was home. I hadn't spoken all day to anyone except the lady in the rectory. Well. In hindsight, and I'm not deeply religious, but larger forces were at work that day. What with the church and the rectory and the "ripe to perfection" huge blackberries. Was it all a beautiful dream do you think? No. It was a blessing. Just a little blessing.
the first time I was served canned spaghetti on toast in england, I truly thought it was a joke. and NO it absolutely does NOT taste good - it's bloody disgusting. Baked beans on toast is god awful but the spaghetti on toast is just beyond the pale. The british come up with some absolutely disgusting ideas when it comes to food.
Gotta say those children ate well...Princess Diana R.I.P.
Yah, they had a good mom.
Absolutely loooove Kipper! Never had it the way chef Paul prepared it but something new to experience ;-)

What a lovely home!
better get my Good Housekeeping cookbook out again!
I love these shows. So much history,Kippers are delicious.
Would love cottage pie and banana flan
Most excellent and entertaining!
I can’t wait to try cottage pie in my kitchen. Thank you!
Yum yum cottage pie, good in winter!
I used to get a blueberry PopTart and glass of milk when I got home from school. Not complaining, mind you.
I also love putting parsnips and peas in with the carrots, onions and celery. I've also been know to put chopped spinach in with the veggies!
My cheese is mixed into the mashies, lots of sharp cheddar, rather than on top of it. It gives the mashes a lovely color!
Now I'm craving this...
Recipe book please. These recipes are awesome
He explains step by step how he puts it together.. and how it's made.
Michael & Paul seems so fun n at ease together than Anna. The show itself seems to lighten up a bit. Just my opinion.
Looks pretty good. I'd like to try it now. Would not have thought of this as a child's food.
Waiting to see all the Ms. Crocombe stans swarming in

Me too..
Guilty of it
Yep
Me too!
That banana flan though 🤤
"Prince Harry's Favourite Childhood Desert" Harry had his own Desert? Wonder if he build sand castles in it 😂
It'd be funny if , actually, someone in the team purposely chose to write 'desert'.
So bad ... ..
They can cook but they can*t spell! LOL.
I’m gonna have to make that cottage pie. Looks delicious
Love Cottage Pie. Great comfort food recipe to have in a back pocket. Thank you Paul!
Can we have cottage pie recipe?
Very educational! Thank you. Delicious recipes as well.
Just love this episode! Fantastic! 🙏🏻 Thank you💕❤️🥰
it looks more like a pie .because as i remember flan dough is very fluffy
I miss home food so much! Grranny, I cried over Tesco soup in Hammersmith 😂❤
Can taste that crispy bread as they bit into it - yum
Between this series and kingdom come, I'm convinced I was once a British knight. Or should've been. Poor Henry.
Why do so many British and Australian people get the use of "brought" and "bought" wrong so frequently. At 26:48 she says "Prince William was bought down". it's supposed to be "brought". Bought is the past tense of buy. Brought is the past tense of bring. You bring Prince William down (present tense) or your brought Prince William down (past tense). Unless you purchased/buy/bought Prince William some where along the line, you don't use "bought". Brits. Aussies! Get it right!
Harry you went out of your realm, you needed to listen to your brother
I love these series 😊🎂🍨 Greetings from Hungary 😊
Love this show.
Nursery food. That's comfort food and my kiddos favorite (eventhough they are now young adults)
Here in Brasil we call it Escondidinho, the meat is hidden (escondido) under potatoes mash. A very popular dish.
OMG that looks so good!!
Good lord that looks good!!
They try to make Princess Anne into a commoner with the fish & chips and what not but it’s the princess’s lady in waiting who gets her kippers and then writes a thank you note!
Kippers are wonderful! Smoked fish in so YUMMY
This is a sweet video. So nice to hear of the children cared for so nicely. The banana flan looks really good. I’m not a big banana fan but I’d really like to try this. Are there recipes from this series? Anyone know?
Check 'Prince William's Childhood Comfort Food'. It does seem to be available LOL
Chef Darren McGrady has a CZcams channel and has published a few books with his recipes too. He now lives in Texas and owns and operates a successful catering company.
It’s strange to see this kitchen without Mrs Crocombe greeting me for a little lesson! Complete with a side of shade, what with me reaching for tinned ingredients & having the pallet of the poor 😂💕
Yes! At Audley End! I love those too! Lol
IKR!
How is this the first time I've ever seen a garden with actual grass as paths between the garden "boxes"? It looks so tidy. I'm doing this pronto.
I live in the desert - is Prince Harry’s favorite the Sonoran Desert, by chance? I so enjoy dessert in the desert 🧁 🌵 😉
I was born in the Mojave
Harry's favorite continent is Africa so, most likely, his favorite desert's there too.
Thank you for these videos.

Too bad the title has dessert mispelled!! Always remember dessert has two "s" because you always want two servings!!

The cottage pie looks amazing and lots of great tips... but, I would not want the chef's dirty spoon anywhere in my dish (and his spoon went from mouth to dish many times).
He used different spoons each time he tasted. I was queezy when he 1st dipped the spoon but he did use different spoons
I thoroughly enjoy these videos.
I am American, but I love a good cottage pie. I make most of our food from scratch. My English ancestors brought their meat pie recipe with them. We always had a hamburger or mince pie at Christmas. Now I do my husband thinks it's very strange.
How do we get the recipes for the dishes???? PLEASE!!!!
