  • Ireland's Stardust nightclub burned down in the early hours of Valentine's Day in 1981. The families of the 48 people killed in the nightclub fire have waited more than 40 years for some form of justice.
The jury found that the fire started as a result of an electrical fault in an airing cupboard. More than 200 people were injured in the disaster.
Today the deaths were ruled '"unlawful killings" by a jury after an inquest.

I remember this awful fire. Ireland stood still in shock. Delayed verdict unnessisarily. Great news for the loved ones and families. RIP the 48 souls❤

To wait so so so long for this, shame on those who delayed this ruling , justice denied for so long to all the bereaved, protecting the guilty.

@gynjones6566 - The Stardust fire was a fatal fire which took place at the Stardust nightclub in Dublin, in the early hours of 14 February (Valentine's Day) 1981.
More than 800 people were attending a disco there, of whom 48 died & 214 were injured as a result of the fire.
It was first; thought it was arson, however later, after another inquest, found out, it started in a hot press, an electrical fault, when they tried to run for their lives, all the emergency exits were locked & chained up, with no way of escaping.
All round extremely horrific & horrible & tragically in later years suicides of survivors & family members were also linked to the event. 😪

I was born in 1980, but my mother talked about this fire many times while i was growing up. It seems to have traumatised the country...
