All I'm saying is there better be a Taunt Button in Space Marine 2.
I want to have a Bolter in one hand, the Finger of Contempt in the other, yelling "PURGE HERETICS !" at the top of my lungs.
Rock and Stone!
The name "Finger of Contempt" would make a great bolt pistol name
....... Yeah ok this chat is too nerdy even for me lol
EAT BOLTGUN!!!!
Angry marines! ALWAYS ANGRY! ALL THE TIME!!!
Anyone else love Bricky's transition into the boss fights with the Greater Daemons?
"Yeah, you're an elite Ultramarine, it's totally canon for just one or two of you to take down an entire colony or planet full of Chaos cultists."
*"BUT MY BROTHER IN THE IMPERIUM, **_THAT IS A LORD OF CHANGE!"_* đ
*a base of cultists. Forget a Lord of Change, a space Marine clearing a planet single-handedly is already ridiculous.
@@letendreelliott8778 If it's just cultists, and he has full back up support - intel, supply and positions to recuperate. Then it's entirely possible for a single Marine to quite literally be a one man army in some cases. Especially a Sternguard. Mind you I'm talking cultists, not renegade guardsmen or full on daemon incursions.
Then again you gotta remember this is supposed to be a doom game. Doomguy is just that - a guy. A buff muscular dude. That's it. No superhuman reflexes, no magic, no advanced weaponry save for what he finds lying around. Hell his signature weapon is a double barrel which should be horribly outdated in his universe. And he still manages to absolutely shred demons even with his bare hands.
Now imagine a Marine. Imagine that dude, who's so beyond a normal human's abilities even if the human is in peak possible condition. A lot more likely. I can see a single marine handling various lesser daemons if they don't come in great numbers. Greater Daemons, yeah, that's highly improbable even for lone Grey Knights unless they're named characters, but I can see a Marine managing to clutch one if they're smart enough about it. And then my man Caedo literally goes in and bodies several.
Hey, it's a power trip. I can respect that.
@@letendreelliott8778 i think its possible, i mean a bit much by you gotta remember most cultist for all intensive purposes are batshit insane and outside of tzneetch cultist, their tactics top out at RUN AT YOU SCREAMING PROFANITES
Iâm literally getting Fire Warrior game flashbacks since the last thing you fight is a Lord Of Change, which you kill simply by shooting it a bunch.

The fact that they did so good on the first attempt means they'll probably get to make a second game where they address the minor criticisms, which is good for us because it means more good games.

The shrine of the boltgun in level one is both a huge meme and completely lore accurate. If a forge world were to have an Astartes bolter anywhere on it, it would be enshrined and worshiped.

Fun fact: The inquisitor is voiced by an same person who in original Space Marine did voicelog detailing the last moments of Magos Biologis treating wounded soldiers and as orks started to overrun them, she admistered emperors final blessing to her charges. So her being the inquisitor is kinda payback for that. So cool.
wasn't the magos biologis a man?
@@EpsilonNPC They were two, the man wanted to help all injured as his calling as a magos biologis. But the woman magos biologis simply tells him that it is impossible and declared the situation a triage, but later it became a mercy killing instead.
Fun fact: the way that the guys behind Boltgun did the monster sprites was a lot like IDâs when they were developing doom: they took a minifig (or clay model in IDâs) and took photos of it from various different angles, creating the sprites for it at different angles.
Thatâs why itâs really got that classic doom feel
Who's stronger?

-One named blueberry boy
Bricky: mentions ULTRAKILL for 0.1 second
Average ULTRAKILL fan: THERE IS HOPE YET
I'm surprised you never talked about the "Retro" sliders in the settings menu. That's the best way to make the game even MORE RETRO with increased or decreased pixels!
wat, there is a Retro slider? I completely missed it.
@@freezie4511 that explains my mine looks more pixelated compared to others that have a cleaner look.
For those who think the voice of our beloved Space Marine is somewhat familiar heâs voiced by Rahul Kohli, who you may know from his old collaborations with Inside Gaming, his roles in iZombie, Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor and the voice of Fahz from Gears 5. Heâs also a tabletop Warhammer fan as well with him posting his new models every now and then.
So basically this is the echelon of roles for him and he will be calling his mother in sheer joy like a child that won the baseball game.
Who?
This game is a 10/10 because thereâs a dedicated Rahul button i.e the taunt button.
That's what I call it too! Homie did an awesome job with the VA!
Boltgun was just what I wanted from the game, simple, metal and fun! It turns out that sometimes is fine to just be fucking fun đđđ
Well said.
Deep rock galactic agrees
Ultrakill and Dusk go really fucking hard. God I love this genre of game.
Dusk is so amazing!!!
this game is nowhere near as polished/balanced as those two. later on it just floods rooms without much care to interesting enemy comps.
map design can be meh as well.
you will never use your charge outside the tutorial either
edit: hey he actually said some of these things, thought he'd just nerd out on "lore accuracy" or whatever the whole time (which I love him for, just sayin)
Ultrakill goes dummy hard. I indeed DO call shooting a coin a martial art
Nightmare Reaper is pretty fun
I like to imagine that the boltgun wasn't actually presented that way but malum loves boltguns so much he saw it being presented that way
" It didn't make any sense, I didn't care, it was inspiring! " Words to live by brick man
I think instead of actual greater daemons they could have used possessed marines or unsanctioned psykers for the bosses that had features like the greater demons. It would make reusing them a lot less weird and also keep it a bit more lore authentic.
Or Hellbrute/Chaos Dreadnought
What do you mean? A lone space marine can totally kill multiple greater demons in a small room with no sweat.

Be pretty cool if the devs made a follow-up game where you're playing as the imperial guard. Be a good way to add a progression system like Boltgun currently lacks. You start off as some conscript with armor about as useful as tinfoil and a laser gun that can barely pop balloons, but by surviving more engagements and gaining more veterancy you get gear with higher stats and maybe a bit more visual flourish. Be funny if your arms gradually got more yolked to represent both toughness and, more likely, the ungodly amount of biological enhancements you'll be allowed (forced) to take by command once you've proven worthy of them.
Only issue i see is that guard gear..never really gets that good
I'm hoping for sister of battle persoanlly. but guard would be nice. or a mechanicus. but they are proably only going to do more space marines. Hopefully a deep cut one. or at least the return of the Blood Ravens.
@@thegamer9302 there is a great variety of guard gear , a new conscript or special drop troops dont have the same level of gear x)
â@@thegamer9302 not true... We can give them carapace armor. If they're good enough.
If you're playing a _really_ young guardsman, you could potentially justify getting space marine'd for the final level...
I like to imagine the lore behind this special UltraMarine is that Big E (Or a big chunk of his soul) got bored and just said "I'm bored, lets relive the old days of Doom" and possessed this lone UltraMarine that nobody would see and would probably die, but if he did make it out alive, it could be chalked up to "Yup, that's the UltraMarines for you"
that's definitely something the TTS Emperor would do
Or he just prayed to the Doomslayer.
â@@ElyseonI know it wouldn't really be lore accurate, but I would love to see 6 Bloodthirsters getting chased out of a portal by Doomguy, and the people watching are just confused, alarmed, and impressed in equal measure
â@@TheSchultinatorI'm now imagining an Ultramarine and the Doomslayer comparing loadouts (guns and swords and stuff) and just nodding in mutual understanding.
Nah blues the luckiest colour, that's why
I dont doubt that the devs are watching this and taking notes on the criticism. They seem like nice people and they've shown that they do care about the game, so if dlc comes out they'll probably come back better than ever
Hey, guess what? Most recent patch addressed quite a few of the concerns! Still no map, but follow Quake logic (i.e. the candles/torches) and you'll find your way.
I absolutely hope the dev team watches this video, because those were my exact same criticisms of this game.
I *wish* we had some way to upgrade our weapons, especially the melee.
A really fun addition could be something that Hedon did, with a melee only mode, where you get new kinds of melee weapons and new ways to tackle encounters with melee only.
I love this game, but with just a few additions it could have been perfect. Sadly, I think they leaned a little bit too much on the whole "we're old school, we don't need no modern fps design" mantra and forgot that some of those evolutions came about for a reason.
I read Hedon and I only had fucking Civvie just saying Head On - "Apply Directly to the Forehead"đđ
Machine spirits should have been permanent buffs for the guns, and some of the bolter special ammunitions would have been nice for them to last the whole level, one mag and done just kind of felt underwhelming
â@melvin5096 (joking) That was Katie's edit you fake fan he even called it out in the video what you saying đđđđđđđ
@@BrotherVoidBomber Lmfao It's always the first thing on my mind whenever someone mentions Hedon đ
Might be a bit unpopular but i think the lack of a power progression like upgrades for weapons is part of what makes it so good. I'm the kind of guy who just really enjoys playing for the sake of it and i tend to get annoyed at progression systems in a singleplayer shooter
Keep in mind that this is the dev studio's first actual game (they only made a beer brewing simulator before, the rest were phone games/tabletop-digitizations).
The Omnissiah blessed their code, such is the power of the machine god
They already had those Mechanicus upgrades that increase the strength of a weapon you use it on in the game, they could have just been permanent upgrades (and also be able to apply it to the chainsword or get to replace it with a power sword).
They could use them being sanctified and thus becoming relic weapons as the excuse for a permanent upgrade in strength/functionality.
One correction: You only get up to the Heavy Bolter in Act 1, in Act 2 you get 3 new ones which are the Vengeance launcher, Meltagun and Voltkite, and in the final Act you get the Grav Cannon, so the weapons are more spaced out than you made it out to be as you in fact do not get everything by Act 1.
Also I heavily disagree with melee being useless, I found it a complete life saver in later stages and I played on Exterminatus, because it is not just melee, It's a HOOKSHOT basically, there were a ton of times I was able to get to higher ground that would be impossible to get to by jumping, by charging with the chainsword at an elevated or far away cultist.
Sure, the melee can be useful sometimes (when it doesn't miss lol). The Charge I find far more useful because not only is it the premier movement tool it actually does what you want it to (instakill a bunch of low tier enemies)
the old halo 2 energy sword launch XD
The next Warhammer 40k game should be a Raven Guard stealth game or a White Scars racing game
well there is an ork racing game in alpha soo...

The only "ball-busting difficulty" of Boltgun is knowing when you're actually taking serious damage... I go from 250 to 95 HP and only let out a tiny grunt that gets completely muffled under all gunfire. No red screen flashes, no screen jitter or shake. You only know you're hurting when you're sitting at like... 10% HP and get a red border on your screen.
But otherwise it's amazing. Player damage feedback is pretty much my only gripe with it.
Edit: I kinda wish we were seeing Bricky's gameplay instead of all the promotional trailer footage again. Can't tell you how many times I've seen nurglings getting absolutely melted by a volkite beam on that split staircase.
Fun fact: malum caedoâs name (the marine you play as) translates to âI kill evilâ from Latin.
I'm a big fan of Rahul Kohli and thrilled that he's the voice of Malum Caedo. I'm actually surprised they got such a famous actor to do the voice lines for a game like this. Mark Strong for a AAA title I get, but for an indie dev like this? I wonder when Henry Cavill might do a cameo in a mobile game.
IIRC Rahul got super excited when he heard about boltgun and they invited/asked him if he wanted to voice act for it.
Rahul Kohli is not famousâŠ
I always thought that Boltgun (based on pictures) would just be like Doom 64 and have the low quality graphics so had a mixed thought about it but damn those graphics actually look good, never knew Iâd see a Doom 64 type game have high quality shading/lighting, and the gun animations are just a chefs kiss. yep i played on medium. most stressful fps game ive ever played. im not really used to the really fast pace in boomer shooters. it was great tho. XD
the purges went crazy
Apparently there's an entire mechanic that bricky missed the entire time he played. Apparently using the melee chain sword works like the meat hook in doom maternal and allows you to move around and launch yourself at enemies. So there is use to it late game but I don't think he ever did it.
Doom maternalâŠ
@@DeltaAssaultGaming "Oh, mommy, I really wish I could like this game..." is reasonably close to what I think whenever I boot up Doom: Eternal.
The single greatest use for the chainsword is actually to counter those champions Bricky fears so much, actually. Ironically, you can stagger champions out of their charges repeatedly by countering with your own sword lunges, applying the follow-up for a fraction of a second, and jumping backwards before they can recover and slap you with their regular melee. Repeat until dead, and as a bonus, once the champion is low on health you can keep the sword attack going to overkill and gib him, preventing resurrection.
It is now my personal head-canon that this Space Marine is specially blessed by the Emperor himself.
I do indeed hope that they add a DLC that would be awesome.
"The barrier to entry is... *Your first born*"
You forgot the leg, the arm, the kidney, the lung and your soul.
I want to see new characters added - Iron hands, black templar, etc. and some new weapons/melee weapons along with new enemies. A map system is a fantastic idea as well. I hope they update it in the future and take the feedback from players to heart
Just imagine Black Templar Only Power Sword Exterminatus 100% Run (impossible UNLESS YOU BELIEVE IN THE EMPEROR!)
Something tells me that Bricky loves the heavy bolter...
See, I'm not sure. It's obviously very subtle if there are any hints.

@@maxxcreese9911 oh.. oh yeah im bricked
I do think the game is so close to perfect, literally a few enemy types, maybe a power sword or Thunder Hammer and a map and it would be an easy 9/10.
Also the weapons that you donât have does give some variety and problem solving but hard to feel unless you just start each section on its own.
One of the reasons I love 40k is because of how over the top it is. When a game dev works with that, I'm all for it.
Neat detail: in one of the taunts the space marine mentions âfinishing the work of Titusâ
I just searched for boltgun because I wanted to see some reviews and here I am stumbling upon new bricky content 5mins after release :D

No the blood angels one should be "HORUS!!!!!"
The omnissiah upgrade does upgrade the gun semi-permanently (It lasts the entire mission). The only issue is it affects every gun differently. It's best on the boltgun with an increase in STR and 20 extra rounds in the mag which also increases the amount of special ammo you get for it like vengeance rounds. I do wish there were perma upgrades though. Maybe in a future DLC
Plasma gun never overheats with the upgrade.

I found a very niche use for the chainsword
when you rev it for a while it locks on the nearest enemy and slows time; you can use it to change your momentum and dogde enemies
Can even do it mid air. It's basically the grapple hook from Doom Eternal.
Your Boltgun. Itâs a brutal weapon, from a less heretical age
My favorite death message is, âSlimed by lesser plague toad.â
I want to see more games with this artstyle blending perfection. It has the modern HD pixel art done with voxels putting both Doom's hybrid-2D roots and Quake's 3D models in that sweet spot. There are other games that have tried, but clearly nothing has gotten to where Boltgun gets.
I'm kind of sad they didn't add kornate or slaneesh demons into the mix, but man this is a fun game to just spend some time chilling with.
The ending shows a bloodletter's shadow on Graia and teases that the fight isnt over
"How lore-accurate is it?"

Actually there is a bit of a perk to using chainsword, when youâre charging with it you will I-frame through any attacks. I learned this when chain swording an exalted flamer.

FOR THE EMPEROR!
I have been on a Warhammer binge these past 2 weeks. Yoi have been the main source for all of it. Thank you so much for introducing me to this fantastic universe, I may even start collection some models :)
God Emperor, I laughed for several minutes at the joke with the aspiring champion and slannesh mention. Great job Bricky!
They could best add a progression system by the next game of this type being played as a Chaos Space Marine.
You could dip into the 4 different chaos gods or be "undivided", you could get various weird mutations, etc.
Boomer shooter content by bricky? YES
Now I wonder if there will be more
Finding a good 40k game among the slop is like finding a rose in Nurgles Garden
Hereâs an idea list for every weapon upgrade that I thought up (simple, sure, but itâs a boomer shooter. The point of them kinda is being simple and dumb fun!)
Melee: bricky already covered this, with both the power sword and the thunder hammer, but maybe toss in the lightning claws as well?
Boltgun: faster reload(?)(Not sure about what upgrade would make sense)
Shotgun: give it AP -1 at practically barrel stuffing range (basically make it so that you either do flat percent more damage or toughness -1, and barrel stuffing range is pretty much jamming the gun in their face)
Plasma gun: upgrade that gives you ~5-15% more max ammo, and also makes the gun handle overheating better (so give it a couple more consecutive shots before the gun explodes in your hands, and make it faster at cooling down by 10-40%)
Heavy bolter: probably an upgrade that reduces the bullet spread by like a fourth or a half of what it is now, and maybe 5% more damage alongside?
Vengeance launcher: upgrade that lets you carry more grenade rounds, and lets you use new rounds (like krak grenades, plasma grenades, volkite grenades, stuff like that. Also I donât know which grenades the vengeance launcher already has, so Iâm sorry for repeating any currently implemented ammo types when I post this!)
Volkite gun: give it an upgrade that you can toggle that lets it target multiple enemies at once but you split the power of the gun between each target youâre attacking (Iâd say let it cap at 4 or 5 enemies max, so if you shoot 2 marines with it, theyâre both taking 50% of the damage that they wouldâve if you just shot each one individually) and give it an increase in ammo cost per enemy targeted (not much, but 2-4% more ammo used per each enemy target past the first one seems a bit fair I think?)
Melta-gun: upgrade that gives you more max ammo and lets you do like a charge shot fireball attack(how better to tell the aspiring champion to go back to hell than by shooting him back in with a fireball!) though it definitely wouldnât be quick or cheap to do
Grav-cannon: no damn clue! Any ideas?
Also why not add in a shield/bolt pistol and/or heavy bolt pistol combo? You can take less damage and shoot back at enemies attacking you at the same time, albeit youâd be slower and have a kinda bad gun (especially in comparison to the rest of your arsenal, and you wouldnât be able to use your other guns with the shield. So either use the pistol or melee weapons with the shield, or no shield at all) though maybe give the bolt pistol/heavy bolt pistol the fastest reload speed(?)
I was so happy to see the Vengeance launcher, I also love how the crosshair is the same as space marine.
I really loved that part where Bricky said âItâs brickin timeâ and bricked all over the lasgun of our most holy god-emperor
Now they need to make a Warhammer Oregon Trail
"Travels slowly and has a slow travel speed"
Yes this here floor is made out of floor
Yes, the charge needs invincibility frames. We need more weapons, Power Fist, Lightning Claws, Flamer!, Marksman Bolt Carbine, Missile Launcher!
While some progression would be hard to implement lore-wise, even new melee finisher moves would have been cool. Perhaps a choice of a Jump-pack of the Assault Marines, or Tech-Marine arm that could drop a turret, or an apothecary armor with some HP regen active ability?
7:54 the strange background only moving in on direction reminds me of the show chowder. They did that a lot

You forgot to mention the secret Alpharius boss fight.
Iâm sure youâve heard this already, but if youâre looking for more âBoomerâ Shooters, I highly recommend the game âCulticâ. Something I would recommend before starting the game is to turn on always running in the options.
Khorn DLC adds a secret thunder hammer like the berserk mode in doom, invunerable for a time, regular enemy are just turned to mush by running into them, while the everything else can get 1-2 smshed by the hammer and the charge attack become a hammer smash that sends a mid range shockwave
Keep em coming, and hopefully make em longer.
Finally! I love when Bricky gets all Warhammery.. Listening to this was awesome. TY
After watching Bricky's playthrough of Boltgun, which inspired me to get the game, I can say, he is 100% right, except for aspiring champions, just gib them as they die and there is no chance of a chosen champion debacle, thank you vengeance launcher.
Still though, kinda wish there was a few more demon boss types at least.
