    As someone who has gastritis, GERD and IBS this video felt like healing. It’s so lonely to be in pain from foods and drinks I love and I don’t know how to change emotional eating to giving my body fuel. And people thinking that my pain is cries for attention. People see my weight loss as this wonderful thing when I know it’s not supposed to be this painful. I’m sorry it’s taken you so long but I hope you continue to be strong. I know what I need to work on myself and if someone is in the public eye FROM the food and drink industry and seeing my illnesses as valid, then I should really take care of myself and live.

      @ChloeTheePayne Před 2 lety +11

      geez yeah it was so moving to hear "i believe you" cuz yikes so many people/doctors don't believe people. it really sucks that when deciding to start tackling a chronic health issue in terms of finding doctors to talk to about it, it's also important to know/expect that a big part of the journey will involve not being believed, needing to know oneself well enough to push back sometimes, and that even when there is a good doctor who listens it's still often so much trial and error to figure out meds and diagnoses. like UM that reality is so painful but it's true and best to face it. so it really helps when there are resources like this video so at least a person can know what to expect heading into it and have this support of knowing that their quality of life is worth trying through the whole ordeal!

    I almost started tearing up at the "I believe you" section because I have dealt with constipation all my life and my doctors have always written it off as me having a poor diet. Which is true, my diet is very unbalanced because I'm a picky eater with a lot of taste and texture aversions. But I was always kinda told that I just eat poorly so suck it up. At most they'd tell me to eat more fiber. Then in 2020 I had a rapid upset in my symptoms and they were the complete opposite of what I'd been dealing with my whole life. Loose stools, having to get up multiple times a night EVERY NIGHT to use the bathroom, etc. I was gonna get a test done but they had gotten a little better and I wasn't sure I could do the test because of certain criteria. After a year of things not getting better, I got in to see a Gastroenterologist and got a colonoscopy done, and what do you know, I have Ulcerative Colitis. It was such a relief to get a diagnosis. And upon further research, I saw stuff that said that it's often genetic and can just be randomly triggered but it isn't ever because of any diet choices or anything. It's been such a rollercoaster trying to unpack that when people have told me as long as I can remember that my gastrointestinal issues were my fault. Now I'm medicated and it's a lot better. I've gone back to dealing with some constipation and the occasional flare up but it's so much better. I've been able to sleep through the night again and also to be having BMs much more often that I used to. Thanks for talking about this. It feels good for people to destigmatize these conversations!

      I cried at that part, too. There was a point after my youngest child was born that food seemed to almost attack me. First it was just overeating which I figured was fair. I'd had GD with his pregnancy and could barely eat so I went a little overboard after he was born. But then it was every meal, every food, and the pain was getting worse. I went to the doctor and told him that I had eaten nothing but a handful of crackers over four days. And this absolute asshole said, and I quote, "Keep it up! The weight loss looks good on you." He refused to do any testing at all. I saw another doctor who told me I had anxiety (which, yes) and heartburn. I had to beg her to send me for an ultrasound, which she finally did with reluctance and a prescription for Nexium because, and again I quote, "They aren't going to find anything. Start these tonight and you'll feel better soon."
      Turns out my gallbladder was dying, yay! I had a third doctor (in the same practice) refer me to a specialist who had me under the knife that weekend, and I was eating by Monday. It was glorious!
      Further fun: I had to bring my eldest child into the same practice a few weeks later and ran into the second doctor, who said I looked great and told me how happy she was that the Nexium had helped. Nope! I said. Got my gallbladder yeeted out. Her face was priceless. :D

    This has been my life for the past two years. This + the trauma of the pandemic has simply been overwhelming and heartbreaking. I still haven’t gotten a proper diagnosis (worst thing the doc could find is my hiatal hernia, but she doesn’t make me bloat!), and I’m at the point where I’m occasionally eating out and having a little garlic onion and…man oh man do I bloat up. Man oh man does it make nothing fit my bod. And man oh man did it hurt my ❤️ when you said “I believe you,” because so many people just got tired of asking how my stomach was!

      You can ask them to cometely unseason your meal, tho they may not always do that entirely and many things like sauces have the garlic and onion mixed in alrdy.
      Ideally tho theyll cook like an unseasoned steak for you as much as we prefer the taste of seasoned. Dependin on which mushrooms you can have, those csn work good as sauce; dont use a steak sauce evwr cuz no doubt they got classic seasonins in them. Malt vinegar is a grt taste that helps juicen any meat too; if ya like acidic flavours at least.

After countless doctors, my own research, tests, diet changes, and patience - I’m seeing and feeling results. Chronic health challenges bleed into every aspect of our lives. It’s heartbreaking when people don’t believe you, when you can’t live like you once did, or you have to make sacrifices to heal. I’ll say this: it’s absolutely worth it. It’s a slow process but I’m finally feeling the closest to ‘normal’ than I’ve ever been. Do I have relapses? Occasionally. But I’m stronger and healthier. I’m able to enjoy food again. Well, everything except gluten. And I’ve found (what feels like magical) probiotics, enzymes, and supplements to assist in the digestive and absorption process. I hope you find a supportive Dr, discover your healing protocol, and can take pleasure in food again in the near future. Sending love and strength 🤍

It took me years of seeing gastroenterologists, dieticians, and allergen specialists for me to finally end up with a diagnosis for Endophillic Esophagitus (chronic swollen upper digestive tract). I had gone through middle, high school, college, and my masters all being told that my sudden choking & vomiting was just nerves, pshychological, or that I had an eating disorder. And it took a combination of finally having good health insurance from an employer + a 48-hour choking fit that landed me in the ER, for me to start the journey of learning that I needed a simple maintenance medication (omeprazole) and to cut out some foods (mostly rice). Overall, I went from choking and heaving daily, to now being 5+ years without a single incident, and it is so life-changing when you overcome the constant trauma your body goes through with digestive issues. I tried to get my then-partner to try a low fodmap diet to improve their gastrointestinal health. They read the list of foods and then refused.

    i had a bowel obstruction from the time i was a literal fetus to when i was 17, and my family and i had no idea why i was so nauseous on the entire time. then i went to the emergency room because i got the worst stomach ache of my life, i got a cat scan, we found out about the obstruction, and i had bowel surgery that night.
    that surgery literally saved my life, and even though i do sometimes feel mournful about the fact that i don't have a smooth belly anymore, i'm also really grateful for the scar because it allowed me the chance to live and become an adult.
    changing my diet has been a slower process, but i've cut out certain foods over the years because they were making me too sick to enjoy them anymore. the first one i cut out was coca cola, and then after i drank alcohol for the first time, i threw up the next morning and was like "never again." and then last year, i cut out regular soda and replaced it with flavored sparkling water. i also haven't eaten any white/italian/french breads in a while. and i'm trying to cut back on gluten, but there are certain gluten foods that i like way too much to give up at the moment.

    Thank you so much for making this!!! I too have been facing stomach issues the past couple years - started in 2021 for me. I’ve been on a good journey myself with food journaling and understanding food triggers. I feel like I’m still figuring it out every day. Thank you for sharing your story and inspiring us to keep going, to find answers and heal our bodies. Love you! 💗

    Great big hugs, I've gone through this too. Fodmaps is rough but over time I've been able to add back many of them. Or just eat a tiny amount without having symptoms. (Not lactose though, just a trace amount will make me suffer.) Sorry that you went through all that suffering over the years, and happy that you finally have answers.
