  • Welcome to The Ghosts of Warwick Castle. Today we look at the entity in the gaol, the murder of Fulke Greville, Victorian seances with transcripts, stories from the Earls, the Countesses and the phantom dog of Moll Bloxham. There are some great stories linked to this popular English tourist attraction with treachery, murder, affairs and exorcism. (The gaol with the oubliette is not the same as the Castle Dungeon interactive experience, an attraction where tickets are required)
As ever, I hope you enjoy these tales from Warwick Castle. Feel free to leave a comment; have you ever experienced any ghostly events in Warwick Castle or elsewhere? I’d love to hear from you 👻🙂

I have a soft spot for Warwick castle because as a stonemason I have worked on it many times (inc the dungeon where the infamous Oubliette is situated and the ghost tower). It truly is a place steeped in history and is best experienced when all of the tourists have gone home and the castle gives off a completely different feeling, I always found it a peaceful place….although obviously there were areas that did not give off this feeling…the dungeon was most definitely one of them.
That aside, Warwick castle is a stunning example of a Medieval English castle and well worth a visit, thanks for another great video.

Yes the dungeon is quite something! So pleased you enjoyed the video and thank you for commenting 👻🙋‍♀️🙏

Hi, I just came across your channel, I went to Warwick castle a few years ago, it's one of my favourite castles to visit, especially during jousting season, and took many photos whilst I was there, I also had some really strange things happen.
I went all around the castle, and when I went down into the old gaol, it felt like a very heavy atmosphere and I could smell death and rotting flesh, I took some photos and when I got home I could see mist and orbs surrounding that cage
with legs hanging from the ceiling, yet when i was there in person, I couldn't see this.
I also took photos of the chapel, and I could sence something but nothing to make my hair stand on end, but again, when I got home, there was 3 orbs in the photo.
I also had an experience in the blue room next to the queens bedroom, when I first went in I was fine, then suddenly as I stood by one of the windows, I came out in a sweat, I had a headache, I felt sick and everything felt heavy, and a very heavy smell, sort of sage smell, and my eyes were drawn to a portrait of a woman in black above the door. I Don't know who she was, but once I left the room I was fine.
Also when I did dungeons after dark, the first room we went into (where the monks were) something tugged at my jacket from behind, yet there was no one standing behind me, I even poked the wall to make sure lol

You may of had an attachment which ain't good especially if you're going from room to room etc. Always take some kind of protection. I don't think you can walk around with sage. But you could wear crystals as protection. But better still to go outside away from where you were.

I’ve known Warwick Castle since a lad having been a pupil at Warwick School, where it was said we would be afforded sanctuary should the town ever be invaded ( which was always responded to with ‘ does that include by tourists?’ 😂. We often had history lessons there, the rowing club was on Avon outside the walls, and once went to a fantastic medieval banquet there. Never saw or felt the presence of any ghosts though😕👻

There are competing theories about hauntings and places of paranormal phenomena. In simplest terms, we can argue that the spirits of unhappy humans who have died here have been unable to free themselves from attachment to earthly things and places and thus remain in ghostly form. The other argument is that unhappy humans who were betrayed, tortured, confined, murdered and otherwise abused have projected emotional energy of such intensity into the environment that the very stones and walls have been permanently imprinted with negativity, and that visitors who are even slightly empathic can pick up/feel such vibrations. Either way, it explains the reactions of visitors and other persons associated with a site like Warwick. We should avoid dismissing such claims out of hand. Something IS happening here.

I always feel faint in castles. No matter which castle it is - I have to get out quickly or I will pass out. I always thought it was because nobody ever opens any windows in castles so it must be the lack of oxygen, and I kept wondering why nobody else is ever affected like me. But now that you mention people feeling faint when there are spirits around - it's more likely that's what it is. Last time this happened was at Highclere Castle in 2010. I haven't been to any castles since then because it's inevitable that I will feel faint. I better give Warwick Castle a miss then...
Excellent video, great to find out about Warwick Castle's spirits without having to go there and pass out.

Hi Little Kitty, thank you for sharing your experience. I think sometimes the sheer size and scale of a castle can be overwhelming and can take its toll on a person. At Warwick, the towers are extremely high and the number of steps you have to climb are significant! Also if you’re outside looking at the grounds then go inside to the state rooms, you can go from very cold to very hot! But who knows, if spirits can affect you perhaps that’s what causes you to feel faint. Thank you again 🙋‍♀️👻

I think the usual thing among the aristocracy was the wife was required to deliver the heir of her husband and after that both husband and wife could carry on as many affairs as they liked as long as they were discreet. I'm Australian and in 1988 I did a tour of Great Britain and spent a short time in Cardiff. My father came from a small part of Wales called Kenfig Hill and I had hoped to take a taxi there to see the street where he was born. He came to Australia at 6 months of age in 1922. Anyway, I didn't have time to do it and really wanted to visit this Castle while there. Unfortunately it was closed to visitors on that day 10th July 1988. My trip book doesn't say why I couldn't get in and I have forgotten the reason, but I did take photos from outside of course. What a pity. Thankyou for the upload - nice to finally see a bit more. I was supposed to get to work at 8 o'clock, but invariably arrived before 7, even before the main gate opened (I knew a little way in!) The first thing I did (unpaid) was to take Lord Brooke's black labrador dog for a run as far as the hunting lodge and back, stopping at the conservatory for coffee, cake, and a bowl of water for Leo. I'd assumed his name was Leofric (from Coventry fame) but now I realise it was more likely Leopold,. Once he was kennelled, I'd then climb Guy's Tower - Caesar's had not been restored then- and sweep every step before the visitors arrived. Fun days of 50 years ago,

Several of my ancestors were born or died at Warwick Castle or involved in defending it. One of them was a young knight in the 15th century -- nineteen years old who'd just become a father. He is reported to have died storming the castle just two months after his son was born. You look at these disintegrating walls and wonder what so many gave their lives for. Why?

I’m not sure what it is about waxworks in any location, but they really make me so jumpy! I know they are meant to enhance an exhibition but I just want to get out of there as soon as possible. I think Warwick Castle can really divide people on that front. I saw some reviews on trip advisor where people felt it was all about add ons and extras that you have to purchase on top of the entrance fee. Some love it but it’s not for everyone!

The thought and the consensus was sir Fulke Greville was gay and was having a long term affair with his man servant/lover. Also what's very odd, in st Mary's his tomb and coffin is facing the wrong way. Weird! I would say, his ghost may or may not be there BUT something is. To lock that tower up was horrendous, the heavy doors and in the pitch black. Shiver ..

Greville willed his man servant 20,000 pounds which just happens to be the same amount it cost to repair Warwick Castle which is equal to 8 millions pounds today. So the story goes that 20,000 pound per year was not good enough for the servant and the servant kill him. I think the something isn't quite right with the story as that is a hell of a lot of money. If it was 200 pounds a year maybe he's get killed for that but not 20,000.

Hi Elizabeth, yes he seems quite an eccentric character!

An extremely evil man was Alistair Crowley. No wonder the damned place is haunted, when they invited the devil himself in!

I love your channel and stories but wouldn't it be nice, if only once, any of this stories could be true. There are channel that sped all their time going into abandon buildings and claiming, every single time, they see something. But they NEVER see anything.
