Alex's acting was actually really incredible. His portrayal of shock, trauma, guilt, and raw, broken grief; it was perfect.
I agree. His crying while sounding “funny” is true of a kid in his situation and someone really hasn’t “grown up” so to say. This movie really got to me, it’s so good
“Perfect” is a stretch. It was realistic more than most movies imo, but he barely portrays any grief except in the scene when he’s smoking with his dudes
Toni Collette got me with her grief. Holy shit. I had to take a break and collect myself, and I don't typically get affected by acting.
I see so many people saying the son can't act because of his crying, but to me that shows a lack of knowledge more than anything. That type of crying is actually extremely accurate for people with trauma. So you laugh but its actually great acting, and definitely well researched. (Source: helped various people with trauma at a centre)
EDIT: to add to that, I think people see his crying as unrealistic because we are conditioned to what I call "movie crying", which is a more theatrical type of emotion than a real one. His performance was much more authentic for a teenager IMO.
Thanks for letting me abort this video early because with all the laughing going on and the fact they'll think the kid can't act because of the crying, I'm good tbh
Agree.
I went through a terrible loss and no joke that’s how I was crying. You’re right, people are absolutely conditioned to think that what the movies show you is how things actually go but in actuality that’s not the case. People cry differently and react to trauma or certain situations differently. And if anything that type of crying sounded like him reverting to almost a child-like state of vulnerability.
Yeah, crying can be ugly when it's 100%, because at that point there is no room in the mind to consider how it looks to those watching.
Exactly!
Remember when the mom said her brother killed himself and said he did it bc the grandma was putting ppl inside of him. Makes a little more sense now.
100%
Exactly. The grandma is key to the film, after she dies is when events takes place.
why did i get so triggered when you guy said he cant act cuz of his crying, i thought it was the most real thing in the movie
Right? I had to stop the video and look at the comments to see if I was the only one thinking that. The acting was pretty accurate.
Dude same
He sucks
@@bodylan11 if you're looking for a better duo try Cinema Rules, or the movie buds. I haven't gone so far as to subscribe here it only my second episode but I agree with your statement for sure so far. I could tell it was gonna be bad when one guy shat on another for wanting to be a miniature maker in the past.
Not bad IMO, but the lady who played Annie was phenomenal.
Toni Collete's speech during that dinner was so crazy good. CHILLS
We were just dead silent during it lol
@@TheMikeLawz i wish you'd shown that part. sometimes the best reaction is a silent reaction. the emotions speak louder. I understand if it's because of fair time user, ugh x(
@@TheMikeLawz you should watch Jack in the box it came out in 2019
@@TheMikeLawz you guys try being dead silent more often
She's absolutely brilliant
about the son going blank after killing his sister, some personality types cope with extreme stress by going comatose. their brain just cant cope so it shuts off in a way.
He didn't kill his sister tho it was an accident
Also he's high off his mind, that might've contributed
@@Jeanisabella_23 an accident as seen by an outsider and, in time, by Peter himself but right there it was his doing in his mind.
@@JohnDoe-dj3lw ooh okay
Idk why he had too leave her headless body in the car tho
@@Jeanisabella_23 He still accidentally killed her.
that clicking sound charlie makes is actually paimon...because he rides a camel and thats how you signal camels to go
Whaaattt! You just blew my mind!
@@carlarafael6102 yeah which makes sense because I ride horses and i make the same sound...so basically camel and horsseriding is almost the same
Wait I never knew that's why she made that noise. That's interesting
A child dies, mother crying her eyes out.
“It ain’t that serious.” 😂😂😬😬
IT AINT THAT SERIOUS
RIGHT. JAJAJAJAJAJA
@batsoup it's guys growing up with toxic masculinity. they can't handle seeing someone crying who isn't borrowing their head in a pillow or trying to hold back tears in general.
this happens a lot with hereditary. people want to see a scary movie and don't expect any drama. but drama and horror are deeply connected, because it makes the threat of losing someone more real and horrifying.
@@TheMikeLawz BRUH the fact that you don't take this movie seriously... that's her daughter right there, her youngest dead, found her decapitated, how is it not that serious. oh but if that happened to one of your family members it wouldn't be that serious right?
@@jsp2185 Calm yer tits, it's a movie. He only was joking. Are you dense?
The grandmother was the leader of a cult that followed Paimon. They put him in Charlies body when she was little, most likely during the time she stayed with the grandmother, meaning Charlie is not Charlie anymore but Paimon but Paimon prefers a male body, making the son the final goal... The part where the mom reads the book on page 81 it pretty much spells out the basic story of the movie :)
Once I had like 10 minutes to let it soak in I understood it. I was just all messed up in the head by the end LOL
Oh it makes sense now
Also the movie seems to suggest, if you dig deep enough, that Paimon never wanted to be summoned in the first place, hence the look of almost fear and disorientation in his eyes as he gets crowned by this cult of crazy humans. Also some suggest that the demonic and otherworldly aspects of the movie are actually metaphors, hallucinations of a family scarred by a long history of mental illnesses
I like that this movie isn’t in your face about everything. It’s not holding your hand or treating you like a dumbass. There isn’t an obscene amount of exposition that blatantly explains what’s happening. It’s intended to have you give it a few watches and pick up on the details each time to make it make more sense and discuss it with other people. It’s the exact same thing with Midsomer. You’re meant to feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable and even confused the first time you watch it because you’re experiencing the emotions the main characters are experiencing.
The real scary part about watching Hereditary is how unsafe it makes you feel, since it regularly breaks convention and expectations, and you never quite know how the safe spaces of your mind will be violated next.
It would probably have been even more effective (and rated even higher) if you had not watched it in the company of another.
boy if u felt violated watchin heredetary, u have traumas boy
@@renerock1745 You're right boy, it's only OK to be scared by the movies YOU find scary, boy.
Otherwise, one has traumas, boy.
I study acting and I am in acting school and let me tell you, the son’s acting was one of the best. It was realistic and just portrays so much realism. Now with Toni Collette’s (the mom) acting she was just downright phenomenal. What I learned from watching y’all is the lack of knowledge or simply ignorance but now you know I guess lmfao
For me it’s in the eyes. He played the scenes as he was asked but didn’t feel them, and not a lot of actors can do that.
I liked Toni better in the sixth sense than this movie
Lool you're in acting school so no one else can judge a performance? The point of acting is to perform effectively for regular people. I thought the son was good, but his crying in that scene made me laugh too tbh. I wasn't laughing at him though, I was laughing at my ignorance.
“She might be adopted”
Idk man, the title of the movie is literally Hereditary lmao 😂
😂😂
I saw this movie in theaters, and I have to say that it is one of those movies that reminds you of why the move-going experience is so important. The theater was packed. The hype was high. The first few moments of the movie began, and you could already tell that the mood of the room had changed drastically. Absolutely nobody was prepared for that car scene. The tension in the room leading up to that scene was steadily building, but quickly transformed into extreme levels of anxiety, as we were all left staring at Alex Wolff's character's face for what felt like an eternity. The theater was so silent during that scene, that you could hear movie-goers in the lobby down the hall. From that scene onward, no one felt anything but anxiety, tension, and obscure horror for the rest of the film. 11/10 theater experience. It speaks volumes of just how amazing this movie is, and why it is, in my opinion, should be added to the "classics" of the horror genre.
Ppl rlly dont understands the signs of shock peter went into full shock after what happened to his sis the way he walked and everything, peter is also a child! A highschooler poor kid
I love it when you guys go quiet when stuff gets scary
2spooky4me
not y'all referring to Alex as Nat the whole time lmao
LOL my bad
Alex is the younger one too lmfao
Annie: (Cries over her own daughter whose head came off)
Mike: _"It's not THAT serious.."_
Uhh, what??
i got way too triggered when he said that, like wtf
@@jsp2185 Lmao chill bruh it's just a movie and that comment was a joke more than anything
I’m kinda upset that you didn’t comment on the beautiful direction of this movie. Also, Peters crying was actually very disturbing and realistic if you think of it
Or watch Midsommar, another movie from the director. Recommendable.
I didn’t understand that movie at all, even after watching ending explained on it
I saw The Witch, then Hereditary, and then Midsommar and I have to say each movie just gets better.
This is by far the weirdest reaction I’ve seen to this movie?
Why the question mark?
This is one of the best horror movies of decade and your reaction was laugh most time of the video? Seriously?
Seriously these guys are the dudes who don't shut up in the theatre
I hated this movie
They are like this cuz they are watching it alone, also they got into it at the end and call it one the best movie, so wtf are you talking about?
They're allowed to have their own style of reviewing content. I thought it was a refreshing perspective
@@Ziggaton Exactly this.
This movie was about a family getting sacrificed to the devil.
*a* devil
16:05 when you have your hand up for like 30 min and the teacher won’t call on you
12:57 all the chaos and mike saying “ are you crying “ 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
When Charlie lost her head I knew this movie isn't gonna get out of my head.
She was just vibin
please watch Midsommar next! it's from the same director of this film but don't expect something similar, both films are so different but have similar themes
I hate that movie with my entire beinggg ckdksjd
Has the same fuckery as this movie but a complete contrast to the darkness. Ari aster is a genius.
Idk why they were picking on the teenager so much, the guy, he is SUCH a good actor and made the scenes sooo REAL
I agree. I usually like their other videos but this one was dumb and immature af
Feel sorry for anyone who shares a cinema with these guys 😂
I know right they're annoying AF
@@Glenn036 They realliy ain't tbh they actually cool af
Someone dies: ad: let’s play RAID SHADOW LEGENDS
I don’t mean to be rude but I just wanna make sure I’m not alone, but Mikes low key unobservant. I appreciate this movie is confusing but all of his assumptions were literally the exact opposite of what was happening, I’m a new sub so watching a few of his other vids it’s pretty similar. It’s kinda funny though entertaining reaction nonetheless
17:47 “I don’t want them to get him” 😂😂😂
He's driving away withoutlooking because of shock and trauma, it's realistic and well documented.
It would look too fake if he just turned around and said "Oh no, Charlie is dead!!! NOOOOOOOOO!"
It's better this way.
That shit scared the hell out of me at the end when i saw it
Im watching this at 2 am- and this gave me chills now I have to watch something that will cheer me up😭
watching these hereditarry reviews never gets old
Definitely recommend watching this more than once! You’ll understand it a lot more the more you watch it
Amazing movie one of my fav horror films. This movies made for a deep dive bro, there's so much details put into it.
I could tell as I was watching this had so much detail to pick up on just from one viewing
Just found this channel!! Please don’t stop making these!! They are super entertaining
I’ve seen this movie multiple times and I still catch glimpses of things I missed and new theories each time
They had the most genuine reaction to that scene I’ve seen
Came from tik tok! So glad I did and I love these! Keep up the great work!!! You gained a new follower

Hey man I really like your videos and I hope your channel blows up they’re just really fun to watch I enjoy it a lot😄
Roman: does she not know what a fuckin nut looks like? Mike: that girl Pete's with is about to know. Epic immediate comeback bro!
The school scene towards the end was my favorite
This move is amazing I watched it 2 times and now your vid this is perfect thanks dudes
Peter was in shock, I think that’s why he kept driving. I couldn’t even imagine being in that situation. Insane
To me Peter's crying was absolutely spot on. You can feel the helplessness in his voice. This movie os fantastic I'm glad you liked it :))
The school scene where he is getting hung, the director wanted him to bang his head so he set down a rubber mat and the actor said he didn’t like it, so he moved the mat and actually broke his nose and jaw.
« Still don’t know what the movie is about »
Me: Just wait. Just you wait...
Came from tik tok, just subbed, great vid
Thanks so much Nathan!
I’m here from tik tok , clicked subscribed right away and now I can’t stop binge watching your videos 💕

The Devil’s Backbone
The devil has a backbone?
@@TheMikeLawz He does in the 2001 Guillermo del Torro film. Sorta.
Yay! I’m excited to see your reaction
Thank you :)
Alex Wolff has always been an amazing actor. On the Naked Brothers Band he is clearly the character that has the most creative storyline because the show creators were his parents and knew how talented he was doing an extremely vast amount of emotions. His older brother Nat was always the emotional good guy who was into the same girl the whole time and his character arc mainly revolved around Rosalina. But Alex even though had a crush on the same girl the entire time too goes through a roller coaster of experiences, emotions, and growth. All while he was 7 or 8 years old. At a young age he could be sympathetic one episode and the villain pranking the rest of the guys the next episode. He could be the little baby of the group one episode and by far the coolest guy in the group the next. I was Alex's age when NBB came out and I always identified with his character and I was extremely impressed and satisfied to see him as an adult perform so well in a different style of film that is much more mature and impressive.
That went south so fucking fast
You right
You guys usually get a couple of things wrong and I don’t say anything lol, BUT saying Alex Wolff can’t act is so absurd. Besides Collette, His performance is so good it helps carry both the terror and the drama that the film needs thru its entire run. Not everyone cries the same way and he’s a teenager who just killed his sister. It’s done very well.
Bro. I saw you guys off tiktok so I came to your CZcams channel to see this. And it's actually really funny. I'm subbin
Ayooo, I appreciate it bro!
@@TheMikeLawz np man. Your vids are like 10m subs type funny

the acting in this movie is absolutely phenomenal
FINALLY A GOOD MOVIE COMMENTARY CHANNEL!!!
At the beginning: "she summoned a demon."
Near the end of the movie: "I have to figure out what's going on."
....you sorta already did, man.
“you wanted to be a fuckin loser?” LMAO
Hereditsry is a story! i've seen this many times and still get chills.
Train to busan 🤙🏼
13:02 lmfao "Are you crying?"
Love this film. You have to follow this up with the director's next film Midsommar.
You must watch Midsommar, which was made by the same director of Hereditary.
this movie it's fucking amazing and one of my favourites of all time. I will probably watch the movie again because of you, thanks btw
It’s so good!
Ayeee I was shouted out thanks dude

I swearrrr
Watch Donnie Darko, it’s incredible!
Might have to check it out!
@@TheMikeLawz I would agree. Donnie Darko is one of the most unique, unusual, surreal movies I've seen. There are very few (if any) films quite like it. The imagery in it is iconic and unlike anything else.
Yess!!! Please watch it :)
im telling you this yt channel have potential well at least I like the idea keep it up
Thanks so much man!
“We’re on two different wavelengths right now”😭
I like when you react alone, you really goof too much when you react with a friend. It’s like you’re playing dumb around your friends but in your other reactions alone you catch on pretty quickly.... this is one of a24 best movie yet you guys make jokes about trauma and their acting when it’s peak cinema (not to sound pretentious😬)
I was thinking the same but honestly we all tend to do that when we watch a movie with a friend lol
A24 has some amazing movies, but everyone has their own opinion
I appreciate the feedback. I wasn’t playing dumb, I genuinely was thrown off by some of the stuff in the movie. I understood what was going on. I just didn’t get the specifics. Which maybe it explained when she was reading the book but I didn’t read it that fast. And as for laughing and making jokes throughout, we try to set out and make an entertaining video. If people want to just see us watch the movie with some gasps thrown in here or there then this isn’t the channel for them. To me that’s a boring video. To each their own though!
When he continued on driving.... I was in shock like insane
I saw this on tiktok and I am not disappointed to be watching this video right now
yall can see in 5:25 that he blows the fumes out the window but in the back theres also someone breathing out as well. creepy stuff
Charlie is matilda on Broadway
"bro put that shit away" lmao
disturbed sound of silence
I really like ur content hope u get famous
Omg you guys are my favorite reactors, especially when Charlie died lol
Now you have to watch Midsommar, by the same director as this one :)
I’m gonna get to it!
‘Ain’t that serious’....WHAT?!!!
Alex absolutely KILLED it in this movie... They ALL did
I swear you guys are the only reactors that noticed the mom in the bedroom at the end
This is the only horror movie that has made me cry... Hearing the mother grief broke my heart, sad af
Basically what happened in the end is that the demon lord paimon took over peters body all thanks to the grandmother forming a cult to worship paimon but he needed a male host to fully evolve in a sense but he had to be in Charlie’s body for the time being but when Charlie died he seized the opportunity to mess with the family further and also break Peter down mentally so he could take over his body and he succeeded.
I was sad to see you didn't have a MidSommar video as well!
Not a lot of reaction channels react to "Drag Me to Hell" or "The Cabin in the Woods" if you're looking for more horror ideas.
I do really recommend you rewatch it for to notice little details, is that type of movie
