I am 84 I recently lost my wife of 63 years, the pain doesn’t,t go away. I miss her so much these songs I sing to her each night, I feel better . Can,t wait to join you my only love.
I lost someone close as well. I heard this song very soon before they were gone, and cried for knowing it was near. It will always stick in my memory. My heart goes out to you.
My dad had bought a black 1949 Chevrolet and that Sunday we all went for a drive down Prince of Wales Drive in Ottawa. We had a radio in the car and as we approached Fisher Avenue, he turned it on and Jo Stafford was singing You Belong To Me. I remember as though it was yesterday (I'm 77) and it brings me back in time. I miss my parents so much. That day was most special to me...in dad"s new car.
God bless you Monty! It is a blessing to see a man like you! I'm sorry that you have to see your beautiful country in such a state now, Lord have mercy on old England. Thank you for your service!
I'm 70 years old and never really listened to Jo Stafford until tonight. This is the 4th song of her's I've heard and yes, I'm speechless. She is so good
Just needed to share a little nostalgia. I’m 88 years old. When this song came out in 1952, I was stationed in Japan at Yokota Air Base. I shed a few too many tears listening to this song. Such memories of how they all began with this song. Thanks for the memories. Bill
I wasn't born until '56, but I remember my mom listening to these great old tunes. It brings back nice memories of her. Thank you for your service, Sir.
Bill, thank you for your service. I'm 72, love all music. My parents exposed me to music from all ages. I'd love to talk to you, if you like. Music is the connection for all people!
My dad was in Creighton Medical School in the 50's..and so homesick for my brother, me, and my mom, and extended family,in Washington state. He wrote long letters to my mother, who was the only ophthalmologist left in the tiny town--with dad in med school, for his Seciality.Dad was going nuts and sent a lot of letters-----he did see ( to us , now!) Jo Stafford 1959.How did we go from making beautiful music with a real voice to the worthless hip hop garbage people actually deem as culture or music for that matter. It's a sign of how far we have sunken.
Joni James actually did it first. Then shortly afterward, Jo Stafford, Patti Page, Ella Fitzgerald and Dean Martin all put out their versions. It's interesting to me that the song was very nearly completely written by a female country songwriter Chilton Price, but she shared songwriting credit with two better known writer-performers, Pee Wee King, and Redd Stewart to help publicize the song. Those two guys wrote "Tennessee Walz"
I, too, remember this song as a kid, and I also remember multiple artists recorded most tunes, and this one was the favorite of the public. In record stores and on Billboard they used to list the versions and recording artists in order by sales. Prominent DJ's in large markets were probably paid to have a "favorite." (A hundred bucks bought a lot in 1951.)
I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song ?
I lost my grandfather today. Months leading up to it I played this song to him and he’d become so alive listening to it and it would take him back to his younger days. I will pass this song down to my children to keep his spirit alive
I am 81 years old and sang the song You Belong To Me for a tryout for the school choir. The music teacher played the piano while I sang this song I was 13 years old at the time and when I was through singing he said to me you sing like a young Jo Stafford.A complement I have forever cherished! And still sing this song today, and still remember my very nervous choir tryout.
I was a soldier in the British army I served for 30 years in the infantry and this song reminds me of all the places I served and fought in for my country I am 68 years old now and I love it
Thanks for standing for our country, as I was too little to help!! What stories you must have to tell! Have you written them down,or recorded them? History survives best that way!
This may be the first song I remember knowing. It was my mother's favorite song and she'd walk around the house singing it all the time. I remember thinking what a lovely voice she had.
Back in 1955 or so, both my parents, brother and I went on a picnic somewhere around Hog's Back. We drove in a 1951 Chevrolet Belair which had this little brown radio and it was playing Jo Stafford's "You Belong To Me". The lyrics, the music and her special voice, just stuck in my brain to this day. Songs such as this brings back memories, always the best memories. René
I went to the United States to attend high school in the early fifies, and remained there through my college years. This song reminds me of a special gal who stole my young heart shortly after I arrived and was my girl for over a year. Janet, wherever you may be I wish to tell you that even now, at 75, after nearly sixty years, I still think of you. Cheers from Ecuador, South America.

This was my Mum and Dad’s song as he went off to the Suez Crisis, Dad passed before Mum and we played this for her in her final hours, brought a smile to her face, bless you Mum and Dad, love you always xxxx
It's timeless and ageless. They'll be singing this, when WE are 100--if we hang around that long. It seems so homey and nostalgic, 'tho we weren't alive when it was so famously loved
😢 my grandma was trying to remember all the lyrics to this song several months before she passed, and I remember downloading the song for her and she was so excited to listen to it again.
Impeachment hearings, climate change, the holidays, random shootings and ww3? this song was playing in my head and I had to get my fix. That's why I'm here listening. I was born 19 April 1948. Whew.
Wow! All the ambiance from when girls were sweet and cars were strong and Jo Stafford was sweetest of them all. The magic of her voice has you really flying in that silver plane and seeing that jungle wet with rain.
I have had to stop reading the comments as I have too many tears to see what has been written. Blessings from England to everyone that this video has brought bitter-sweet memories.
There's no other song in the world that reminds me more of my parents than this one!!! My dad fought in the Pacific during WWII and while back home, my mom stood watch in the towers to watch for enemy aircraft. After the War, me and my brother were born --- thank you, Lord Jesus, for keeping my Dad safe! -- and, I can still hear this song being played on the car radio shortly after it was released in 1952. Gracious, I do love and miss them!!
Too bad wars are part of the depopulation plan. If people knew back then. Wouldn’t be so loyal. Sons, brothers and fathers would be home with their family’s.
One of the first songs I ever remember. This song was still being played in the early 1950's .My mom would be doing the dishes in the kitchen. I remember it so well.Rest in in peace my dearest.
I am 6,222 years old, I have travelled from the future and back to the very creation of the earth, they seriously built the pyramids with some scaffolding around it and some bricks, either way I’m here right now, listening to this masterpiece of an art, truly blessed to come across this.
Iam 74 and remember this beautiful song growing up in minneapolis in the fifties. This is the first time i've heard it in many many years!...have always loved jo stafford!
I am 78 years old now and was brought up with this fabulous music,my sister used to sing to me,Jo was amazing! Smile everybody and listen to these wonderful songs sang by the very talented beautiful Jo Stafford.
Jo's rendering of this song has been in my top ten since I was a kid in the 50's!! No-one sings it like Ms Stafford. I fell in love with her voice when I first heard it circa 1956, but I must confess - I never thought she was overly attractive!! Still, it's the voice that matters. Strange as it may seem, my other favorite female songstress is Judith Durham (the Seekers).. Whether it was Jazz, Blues, Folk or classical, Judith mastered them all; and if you''ver heard her play classical piano, you don't know what you've missed! Ahh, two of the best now sadly missed.
My daughter has always claimed this is the only song to which I know all the words ... could be. And we sang this together when she was a little 'un A beautiful song, for a beautiful voice. Thank you, Jo Stafford, for all our lovely memories. God bless
I'm twenty years old, studying in college and love this type of music. Its so soothing, clam, and has a lot of heart in to it. sometimes makes me wish I was growing up when this music was around.

OMG! I was 13 yrs old when I fell in love with song..brings back so many memories of my first boy friend, we both would dance cheek to cheek on this one..still young at heart today..love music. Peace Alba..
My parents were engaged the year this song came out and were married in 1954. This was among their favorite music from the time. I can still remember my mother singing it. Whenever I hear this song it brings me to a day dream and I am sent back to 1952. I am at the airport in San Francisco dressed in a baggy 50’s suite with a printed ticket in my pocket while I wait to board the silver plane. Outside of the terminal the sky is a technicolor blue and dotted with puffy white clouds. There are rows of Lockheed Constellations, Douglas prop liners and Boeing Stratocruisers parked on the tarmac. Each takeoff and landing brings the majestic sound of propellers and piston driven engines. A sound so seldom heard today. I am about to start a trip around the world on that silver plane. And the best part is that I am taking the trip with someone who looks just like Ava Gardner. Well, until someone invents a time machine this song will have to do.
It's ok to get home sick. I can't believe how many good years have come and gone since I fell in love with my first love. My dearest departed wife, knowing there'll never to be another you breaks my heart. Dear I miss you soooo, that I can hardly see.
Steven James--your post touches me hard. I am sorry for the way your life has been so damn distorted because of the loss of your wife. Your post is compelling. But not sad, because it is obvious that you are a pretty unique and special person your own self...
Once upon a time, pop singers had genuine talent. With her note-perfect control, range, and Big Band articulation, Stafford was one of the very best. You don't need to be 80 years old to appreciate the artistry of a different era. The many comments by youngsters illustrate the point: Stafford's rendition of this song transcends generations. There is no substitute for talent.
27 year old guy here, grew up on mainly urban and electronic music. I've come across this by complete accident. I have to admit she has the most amazing voice ever. something about the way she enunciates her lyrics... it is so melodic. I bet her live sessions must have been awesome. I'm gonna look for more music from her. guess ive got alot of catching up to do.
@Romeoz06: this revealing track is very close to what you would have heard if you right in front of her. You are hearing her voice going from the mic directly to the recording process (possibly direct to disc) without any electronic enhancements. Makes this recording all the more astounding. And good for a young gun like you to appreciate such beauty.
John-Del ... I was going to make the same astute observation. No fancy electronics, dda boards, etc... what you hear her sing live was the same on her records.
I am 84 I recently lost my wife of 63 years, the pain doesn’t,t go away. I miss her so much these songs I sing to her each night, I feel better . Can,t wait to join you my only love.

I sure do miss the 70s and 80s. The music today is not even the same. Sometimes I wish I could find a time machine and go back in time. Life was much easier and everyone enjoyed life! Is this your favorite song?
At 72 y/o, I still so remember my mom singing along to this while she was doing the dishes. I was 6 y/o. -----------------------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o
Legend sings signature song
This was my Mum and Dad’s song as he went off to the Suez Crisis, Dad passed before Mum and we played this for her in her final hours, brought a smile to her face, bless you Mum and Dad, love you always xxxx
I’m 25 and I love this song!!!!!
It's timeless and ageless. They'll be singing this, when WE are 100--if we hang around that long. It seems so homey and nostalgic, 'tho we weren't alive when it was so famously loved
What a beautiful voice 🎵. God bless 🙏
😢 my grandma was trying to remember all the lyrics to this song several months before she passed, and I remember downloading the song for her and she was so excited to listen to it again.
A gorgeous song--in 2023, still a beautiful piece of music!!!!
Nostalgie voor altijd en tijdloos.
This song always reminds me of my grandmother. I miss her so much. I always loved hearing the oldies playing in her house.
Impeachment hearings, climate change, the holidays, random shootings and ww3? this song was playing in my head and I had to get my fix. That's why I'm here listening. I was born 19 April 1948. Whew.
It's quite a world.
And how desperate the the democrats are by clutching at straws. Nixon and JFK were much better.
I hear you loud and clear ___ chin up ___ play it again Sam
Best song
@@aSpectreAppears Blow it out your reactionary wazoo
Wow! All the ambiance from when girls were sweet and cars were strong and Jo Stafford was sweetest of them all.
The magic of her voice has you really flying in that silver plane and seeing that jungle wet with rain.
I love all those perfect, nostalgic lyrics
I'm 81 and remember this well. Great song and singer.
Hi ,how is the weather today?
I have had to stop reading the comments as I have too many tears to see what has been written.
Blessings from England to everyone that this video has brought bitter-sweet memories.
I only found it about 9 years ago, and immediately adored it.xoxoxo
There's no other song in the world that reminds me more of my parents than this one!!! My dad fought in the Pacific during WWII and while back home, my mom stood watch in the towers to watch for enemy aircraft. After the War, me and my brother were born --- thank you, Lord Jesus, for keeping my Dad safe! -- and, I can still hear this song being played on the car radio shortly after it was released in 1952. Gracious, I do love and miss them!!
tears.....much love
The drifters singing green eyes
Too bad wars are part of the depopulation plan. If people knew back then. Wouldn’t be so loyal. Sons, brothers and fathers would be home with their family’s.
MY parents, too. they both loved Jo,-----------------------
I can remember listening to Jo Stafford @ 5 years old on the radio....always loved this song and her vocal performance ....what a gem....
One of the first songs I ever remember. This song was still being played
in the early 1950's .My mom would be doing the dishes in the kitchen.
I remember it so well.Rest in in peace my dearest.
I'm 72 and remember my talented mom always singing this beautiful ballad, wish my kids could have heard her
I am 6,222 years old, I have travelled from the future and back to the very creation of the earth, they seriously built the pyramids with some scaffolding around it and some bricks, either way I’m here right now, listening to this masterpiece of an art, truly blessed to come across this.
Don't you just hate it when you go to visit a magnificent structure only to find it covered in scaffolding?? 😢
😆 🤣 😂
I'm in my 80's now thank God I can hear the music I grew up listening to, it never grows old.
Songs with good lyrics that can make everyone nostalgic--will always LAST!
Brings a tear to my eyes - Mum sang songs like these all the time. Now 65, this is till the music of choice!
Derrick Windsor 🙏
Iam 74 and remember this beautiful song growing up in minneapolis in the fifties. This is the first time i've heard it in many many years!...have always loved jo stafford!
Mom use to sing this to me. She has been gone for three years now. This brings her right back.
Hi there, how is the weather today?
I am 78 years old now and was brought up with this fabulous music,my sister used to sing to me,Jo was amazing! Smile everybody and listen to these wonderful songs sang by the very talented beautiful Jo Stafford.
Beautiful classic song
I remember sitting in my tent on Okinowa on bivwac listening to this song in 1960
That sounds surreal.
Thank you soooo much for yr service! You are not forgotten.
Much love
Then the Dupree's came along.
I´m 15 years old and currently writing a book and needed some good songs. Now I´m crying over some comments
What an angel... I am in tears. I'm so thankful for this recording.
ME TOO. GLAD I MENTIONED IT--PEOPLE POSTED SO MANY LOVELY STORIES!!!
My daughter has always claimed this is the only song to which I know all the words ... could be.
And we sang this together when she was a little 'un
A beautiful song, for a beautiful voice.
Thank you, Jo Stafford, for all our lovely memories.
God bless
Hello Christine, How are you doing?
I flew in that silver plane, and saw old Algiers. Jo Stafford will never
stop reminding me.
I'm twenty years old, studying in college and love this type of music. Its so soothing, clam, and has a lot of heart in to it. sometimes makes me wish I was growing up when this music was around.
Jose Ramirez Reyes---Liking that name young Sir--Commending you for attending College...Wondering what you are studying for your degree or degrees--Your post quietly suggests some maturity and life knowledge.

OMG! I was 13 yrs old when I fell in love with song..brings back so many memories of my first boy friend, we both would dance cheek to cheek on this one..still young at heart today..love music. Peace Alba..
+Jake Heyworth. not many your age on these threads. lovely song.
Well, until someone invents a time machine this song will have to do.
......I'm 155 Years Old And I Remember This Song Coming Out When I Was Young 70 Year Old "Swinger" Around 1942 !!! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤎❤
Do you ever feel you should of lived in the 40s. The music was so soothing, clear and had so much feeling. Jo was one of the best.
15 year old here that likes real music😌
You were raised right
It's ok to get home sick. I can't believe how many good years have come and gone since I fell in love with my first love. My dearest departed wife, knowing there'll never to be another you breaks my heart. Dear I miss you soooo, that I can hardly see.
Bless you, my dear.
Steven James--your post touches me hard. I am sorry for the way your life has been so damn distorted because of the loss of your wife. Your post is compelling. But not sad, because it is obvious that you are a pretty unique and special person your own self...
Steven James lovely post
Steven so sorry for your loss true love never dies.god bless
Soooo sorry for your loss. It takes a real special man to love that truly and deeply.
One of the most beautiful songs in my memory. Thank you Jo Stafford.
Yes
I first heard this song when I was 7 years old in 1952. It has been my favorite song ever since. There is nothing else like it.
THAT IS FOR SURE--THE WRITER OF THE LYRICS, CERTAINLY MADE THE SONG MEMORABLE,TOO!
Boy, could this bird warble!!! Why aren’t we talking about her?! Her voice wafted straight from the heavens directly down to her vocal chords.
I was born in the wrong decade man :( But I'm happy to have the pleasure to listen to type of music everywhere I am.
I have the same...
so was I man, back in the dayz when caveman were banging sticks and bones that was real music totally born in the wrong generation
Anthony Perez You are right on the money, with that comment.
Pilita Corales
im happy to be born in the 21st century, it means i can listen to todays music and music from 1930 all from the internet
This was number one and by Jo Stafford when I was born in 1952. Still my favorite song and artist.
Her voice is so beautiful.
Hi 👋
I agree 💃
This is from the 50s and I love it!
I REMEMBER MOM AND DAD DANCING TO THIS SONG.
i can imagine.
In Ray Charles' autobiography, he stated that Jo Stafford was his favorite singer. 'Nuff said!
it's a great melody! I think that's the draw.
Romeoz06 i
To you Mother and Daddy! And all of the Greatest Generstion!!!
Goosebumps. What a lovely woman!
Only good thing about two world wars would be listening to a voice like this.
this is a song I hear on the Mike Douglas show in the 1960's as a teen and I feel in love with it. when people song and not screamed.
